Silicon power will disapear? So the earth will no longer contain silicon? Can't we just stop making computers stronger? Do you know how tiered I am of my computer constantly expecting me to allow it to update and suck and drain the energy of my computer, draining more cpu and so forth?
We really don't know what this stuff is (light, etc), we just label concepts and build models to help us do things with the stuff we do know, for all we know, our models are no different to reality than what Newtons was, ours just works better in more cases.
@nickrohn93 Computer science will always be with us, it's a market that will always exist, no matter if we are using atoms or whatever, don't be stupid, take computer science.
@Omatollis Light is an electromagnetic wave, that's why movement changes color of objects, because the wave is perceived distorted, more blue tinted when it's coming towards you and more red when it's moving away from you, light is made of photons, photons travel in a straight line, they bounce off anything, that's why there is reflection, that's why there is occlusion.
@Omatollis Light is an electromagnetic wave, which essentialy means that a electric field and a magnetic field (perpendicular to each other) sustain each other and propagate through space without the need of a matter particle or a matter medium. Unfortunately for you, it comes down to nothing (since it has no mass) or, conversely, to pure energy (since it doesnt need a material medium), which are the answers you did not want.
There is more to computers then just the speed of the processor, at least for consumers. I mean Netbooks and Tablets actually went backwards in terms of computing power and people still bought them in mass.
Making processors cheaper by improving manufacturing means more processors in more things, smarter appliances, etc.
well if noone is at least concerned about the end of silicon computing then you are a fool.. im sad to say i will be alive when it happens.. i dread the day the last computer rolls off the line.. and we havent been able to mass produce quantum computers..
Bose-Einstein condensation was discovered by Bose a guy from India who is nobody. @themantien haha yeah dr kiki im like hmmz im sure she does know what she is talking about ... she seems to know what she is talking about... she just has a horrible idea of what is funny and she is super awkward
@huntbug1 To be clear she has a PhD in neurophysiology and also hosts many science shows. As her field of research is not exactly physics it is quite natural that she appears little intimidated by Dr Kaku.
@CakesnakeFilms I think I missed that part of the interview. What I did see was her correct Kaku's overstatement of reaching abs zero in an inquisitive, non confrontational manor.
Apparently his smartest guy in the room bluff fooled 107 pea brains.
She is a PHD, not there because of affirmative action. LIsten again, she has offered a lot more feedback then ummm and yep. Listen with NON-stop eye contact. You're an idiot. She's his equal. Michio is obviously being interviewed because of his expertise not hers. They didn't ask you to do this interview, did they? Affirmative action? This is a you tube, not a government appointed position. You made three emphatic points and proved your IQ is rivaled by coleslaw in all three of them.
@LaSalviaBodysurf I could be misunderstanding you but Kaku says "Near absolute zero" and then she reaffirms this statement by saying "We're still not to absolute zero". I don't really see any ownage there.
@CakesnakeFilms So her resume beats yours by about 10 fold at this point. If you'd kindly STFU. She's a PHD in her field, and the host of 3+ science shows. You're a "soon to be scientist", so your opinion doesn't even matter.
@xxxRyanxEdgexxx does your opinion matter?, i never said that she wasn't an expert in her field, but that she didn't know what she was on about in this one. if you'd kindly stop being so stupid, or else fuck off.
You barely know what you are doing, and you barely know what is going on, but that's ok, because Mother Nature and Father Time are taking care of you.
I don' t understand why you guys are bashing her.. She's earned her Ph.D from UC Davis in Molecular, Cellular and Integrative Physiology, so she's obviously done more than most of you.. She's just not an expert in this subject, but she is an expert in her area of study.. Both of these people know much more than all of you.. Give her credit, don't take away from her hard work..
@Mike0071 People are bashing her because she is an awful interviewer. She's rude and doesn't even pay attention, she just says "right" and "yup" at appropriate moments. At the end you can clearly see her disengage from the interview to look for her next question, and when Kaku finishes she scrambles to pretend like she was listening. Even if she is an expert (she still isn't anywhere near Kaku) she should at least show some respect.
Wait if the particles (at B-E condensate form) dont know where they are or in other words they are in many places, It looks as thou the particles are not in time, they are streched (like in the movies a ghost trails of you a second or several ago).
What a dumb woman that is. I don't care if she has a PHD. She sounds dumb, her comments are dumb, her laugh is dumb and she doesn't show professionalism, nor passion towards her study. There are people with a PHD and are just plain stupid in life, and there are people with a PHD and are just genius in life.
i want to ask ... it may sound stupid .. but i really want to know .. if there is absolute zero .. is there an absolute high temperature ? and if there was .. what would be like ?.. hope to get a clear answer .. thanks
Well, yeah there is I guess, but there'd have to be a high amount of gravity to contain the matter, vibrating at light speed. What state it's in we don't know, and will probably never know, cause it can only exist inside black holes.
these questions are so far fetched, i cant imagine how much time questions like that can be formulated. yet this genius here has an answer like that. amazing.
(conyinued)You're on the right track, but in this state no heat could go in or out, and the substance wouldn't cool any more. Bottom line, we can get close to absolute zero, just like we can get close to a perfect vaccum and a frictionless surfice and an immovable object.
@SpincterManBubba, absolust zero cannot exist anywhere. Think about it like this, you need to use something made of matter to remove heat. There comes a point, however, where the very heat of the tool you are using to remove the heat heats up the material. Even observing something at this impossibly close temperature would heat it up, as seeing something requires photons to bounce off (and some are absorbed) the substance. You ask, what if we keep it in a dark frictionless and weightles vaccum?
How far from the sun would you have to travel to find absolute zero in space or is it not possible even in space? Let's assume it is a distance just outside our solar system solely for conversation. If that be the case then the space probes we sent several years ago that are now far outside our solar system could have turned into just a wave? Possible, yes or no?
Dr. Kaku is so misleading!!! He uses analogies so carelessly, doesn't say what is an analogy and what isn't, and where does the analogy begin or end. Plus, e loves using flashy terms that mean nothing, convolute the issue at hand.. What's a super atom? does it fly? is it vulnerable to kryptonite? Dr. Kaku, your irresponsible explanations are a dis-service to science! (another egregious example is calling the Higgs Boson the god particle. That's nonsense, but effective for attention-whores)
IM annoyed by how many people keep saying that this woman is stupid, to any degree. she has a PHd in physiology (amongst accomplishments in other prestigious educational fields).she is not a quantum theorist and just because she is mildly attractive, every persons (exageration, of course) on this board thinks directly from their penis, to which they throw pointless insults and sexist jokes at her. anyone involved in such acts is nothing short of a hypocrite- for doing so is illogical and vain.
michio kaku is a low level illuminati.. he supports the new world order and believes the western way of life is the only way of life and if you dont support it, you're a terrorist.. those are his words. not mine... research this guy.. he sounds extremely intelligent, and he is, but he does not do work to benefit the average person.. he works to benefit the same corporations that force america into debt and competition..
i found a picture collection of her naked and with clothes on, its really her because they show her with clothes on then with clothes off and sperm on her titties too
why can't we just accept "slow" computers? I mean, we got to the moon with computers that were laughably frail next to my pocket calculator. What the hell do I need a quantum computer for?
@AllOtherNamesTaken2 because we'll run out of silicon eventually and that will be the end of this type of computer age and as well we should progress because it would benefit humanity in so many ways and people would live longer & less people would die, exc.
@deanmullen10 There is silicon in fucking sand. The issue is NOT running out of silicon. The issue is that electronic computers are limited by the size of their constituent atoms, so they have to make computers out of something new to continue to make them smaller and faster. I really do not see why that is necessary. Every person and his grandma does not need a laptop to make them happy. My computer is already faster than I could ever have need for.
@AllOtherNamesTaken2 yeah, U are sooo right about that, why would a redneck like u need a faster computer? Why don't u just go burn a dvd or something on ur tooo fast computer
@AllOtherNamesTaken2 Until graphics improve and your currently great computer will blue screen within a few seconds of trying to run it.
I remember when win95 was big and I thought "It only takes a few minutes to turn on my computer" and that was considered really fast. Most people didn't think there was any need for more; then you see what we've got going on now!
The main problem is we can't imagine what's really coming until it's here for the most part.
@AllOtherNamesTaken2 As our knowledge increases will need faster ways to process stuff. Faster computers more efficient and quicker research. which would be helpful since science always struggle with funding. Better results, faster results, more progress is less time.
@AllOtherNamesTaken2 What would you need a quantum computer for? With a quantum computer we could simulate the human brain and basically create (or rather copy) a new truly conscious and intelligent person! Or computer... or whatever haha. So what could we do with this guy? Well, we could speed up the simulation! So we could have this guy think about all our problems and solutions for like 1 million years in say 10 real life years? Wouldn't that be great!? Sucks for him but who the fuck cares :D
oh mercy...this guy (like most 'celebrity scientists') doesn't have the slightest idea about what he is talking about...B-E C is about zero viscosity. His reference to lasers is something- I think he is referencing the fact that to achieve 1.73l K requires laser cooling (as well as magnetic cooling). I spose I'm wrong though, I hope he's dumbing it down for a layman audience - i just wish he spoke about zero-viscosity mercury in a donut!
@1spiders1 I don't think she presumes to know more then him at all. I think she's very star struck and quite nervous interviewing a man like Michio. I would be too. I think she kept it together very well, and did a wonderful job keeping Michio in layman's terms for those of us that don't have god like intelligence. If I were given the chance to have a one on one with Michio I'm pretty sure if I didn't pass out, I would be rendered a blithering idiot, capable only of responding in simple uh-huh's
@apostle3 ii didn't like the zero comment of hers as if he doesn't know that. may be she did do a fair job. shed do a much better one in the kitchen :)

Dear YouTube,
I am a professional quantum physicist and this is, by far, the WORST explanation I've heard for Bose-Einstein Condensation. Kaku is throwing a lot of irrelevant anecdotes about unrelated areas at you instead of a discussion of BECs.
Briefly, a BEC is a state of matter that is distinct from solid, liquid, or gas. Certain kinds of atoms, when subjected to the proper environmental conditions, will find themselves "condensing" to a single entangled quantum state. Me > Kaku :-)

She's just not an expert in this subject, but she is an expert in her area of study.. Both of these people know much more than all of you.. Give her credit, don't take away from her hard work..
Mike0071 7 months ago

Thumbs up so people could see this thought!

What a dumb woman that is. I don't care if she has a PHD. She sounds dumb, her comments are dumb, her laugh is dumb and she doesn't show professionalism, nor passion towards her study. There are people with a PHD and are just plain stupid in life, and there are people with a PHD and are just genius in life.

i want to ask ... it may sound stupid .. but i really want to know .. if there is absolute zero .. is there an absolute high temperature ? and if there was .. what would be like ?.. hope to get a clear answer .. thanks
Zombiezdeath 9 months ago
@Zombiezdeath
Well, yeah there is I guess, but there'd have to be a high amount of gravity to contain the matter, vibrating at light speed. What state it's in we don't know, and will probably never know, cause it can only exist inside black holes.
fuunguus 9 months ago
these questions are so far fetched, i cant imagine how much time questions like that can be formulated. yet this genius here has an answer like that. amazing.
wutwut123123 9 months ago
(conyinued)You're on the right track, but in this state no heat could go in or out, and the substance wouldn't cool any more. Bottom line, we can get close to absolute zero, just like we can get close to a perfect vaccum and a frictionless surfice and an immovable object.
QwertyByte 9 months ago
@SpincterManBubba, absolust zero cannot exist anywhere. Think about it like this, you need to use something made of matter to remove heat. There comes a point, however, where the very heat of the tool you are using to remove the heat heats up the material. Even observing something at this impossibly close temperature would heat it up, as seeing something requires photons to bounce off (and some are absorbed) the substance. You ask, what if we keep it in a dark frictionless and weightles vaccum?
QwertyByte 9 months ago

IM annoyed by how many people keep saying that this woman is stupid, to any degree. she has a PHd in physiology (amongst accomplishments in other prestigious educational fields).she is not a quantum theorist and just because she is mildly attractive, every persons (exageration, of course) on this board thinks directly from their penis, to which they throw pointless insults and sexist jokes at her. anyone involved in such acts is nothing short of a hypocrite- for doing so is illogical and vain.

why can't we just accept "slow" computers? I mean, we got to the moon with computers that were laughably frail next to my pocket calculator. What the hell do I need a quantum computer for?
AllOtherNamesTaken2 1 year ago
@AllOtherNamesTaken2 because we'll run out of silicon eventually and that will be the end of this type of computer age and as well we should progress because it would benefit humanity in so many ways and people would live longer & less people would die, exc.
deanmullen10 11 months ago
@deanmullen10 There is silicon in fucking sand. The issue is NOT running out of silicon. The issue is that electronic computers are limited by the size of their constituent atoms, so they have to make computers out of something new to continue to make them smaller and faster. I really do not see why that is necessary. Every person and his grandma does not need a laptop to make them happy. My computer is already faster than I could ever have need for.
AllOtherNamesTaken2 11 months ago 2
@AllOtherNamesTaken2 yeah, U are sooo right about that, why would a redneck like u need a faster computer? Why don't u just go burn a dvd or something on ur tooo fast computer
Wintendows 11 months ago
@AllOtherNamesTaken2 Until graphics improve and your currently great computer will blue screen within a few seconds of trying to run it.
I remember when win95 was big and I thought "It only takes a few minutes to turn on my computer" and that was considered really fast. Most people didn't think there was any need for more; then you see what we've got going on now!
The main problem is we can't imagine what's really coming until it's here for the most part.
moshpotpaul 9 months ago
@AllOtherNamesTaken2 As our knowledge increases will need faster ways to process stuff. Faster computers more efficient and quicker research. which would be helpful since science always struggle with funding. Better results, faster results, more progress is less time.
cuevasdecamuy 11 months ago
@AllOtherNamesTaken2 What would you need a quantum computer for? With a quantum computer we could simulate the human brain and basically create (or rather copy) a new truly conscious and intelligent person! Or computer... or whatever haha. So what could we do with this guy? Well, we could speed up the simulation! So we could have this guy think about all our problems and solutions for like 1 million years in say 10 real life years? Wouldn't that be great!? Sucks for him but who the fuck cares :D
fuunguus 9 months ago
oh mercy...this guy (like most 'celebrity scientists') doesn't have the slightest idea about what he is talking about...B-E C is about zero viscosity.
