Stutterers, do you find that when ordering in restaurants and stuff, that you order something you didn't necessarily want just because the thing u wanted is hard to say? I tend to order ceasar salads alot because Ceasar Salad is easy for me to say. With steaks you have to say alot.
One steak please
What sauce?
Pepper
How do you want it cooked?
Medium
Veges or fries?
Veges
Lol so I just give up. Also the word 'nuggets' I find impossible to say so I never order those at McDonalds

She has awesome support but unfortunately not all of us have that vital support. I'm 28 and I immigrated illegally from Mexico when I was 8. There's a lot of ignorance within my family. My own family made fun of me as a child and to this day they believe I choose to stutter as if I had some sort of control over it.
I too am a stutterer, but it is not as bad as it used to be. I think the key is to take your time when speaking and to always remember to breathe. Also, confidence plays a key role in getting that word out when you know you're gonna have trouble with it.
i have 1 fren who stutters but he is smart as hell.. fucking computer science genius. but yea sometimes its hard to understand him.. or people who stutter in general.
Interesting. I don't stutter, but I was diagnosed with a condition called Focal Dystonia which has wrecked my ability to play my instrument completely. If you substitute the word 'talk' with 'play' in Mr Schneider's description, he is describing my condition exactly. Now, the medical prognosis of FD is that it is neurological and irreversible. However, many many musicians have been rehabilitated completely by focusing on the psychological/emotional aspect.
Rebecca is so pretty and she stutters. Poor girl. She will probally benefit from the speech easy device. I wish there will be a cure someday for stutters because it does suck to stutter esp. when you are trying to talk and flirt with the opposite sex.
It's a shame that "normal" people think you have some mental disorder when they hear us talk, they mock us. The truth is totally opposite: I've seen some reports which state that stutterers have significantly higher IQs.
i stutter not much but enough and yes i think teachers need to be more educcated, stuttering makes a lot of kids look and act stupid and teahers seem to fall in the category of think you look stupid and act stupid, one time this kid in my had to read out loud and like the teacher helped him on every word like started sounding it out for him and i could tell the kid was pissed off at the teacher cuz the teacher made him look like a retard in front of all the kids
While most teachers are aware of this defect, a large percentage (my estimate is 87%) still do not know how to help solve stammering, or even simply encourage those who do so. Our societies simply do not know what to do when somebody begin to continuously stammer. This explains why most stammerers who start out when young grow up to be adults without a single awareness that what they are going through could be significantly reduced
exactly. when i was in high school and i warned teachers about my stuttering, they didn't even seem to care or ask about it. when it was my turn to read aloud, they would watch me cry at my desk while i spent 3 minutes trying to get a word out. i'm not asking for special treatment, but teachers arent educated on the subject and they dont do anything to help the stutterer cope with other kids making fun of them.
The teacher(s)who sat and watched you struggle, knowing that you had this issue going on should be put before a firing squad! Someday, they'll open up their eyes in hell! That's just wrong!
That teacher should atleast have the consideration to pull the student aside when class is over, one on one and ask that student if they are comfortable reading out loud in class. For some reason though, I was very fluent when reading out loud to class in the 6th/7th grade. Guess I was lucky there!
@ziontenor I had a teacher that used to make me read pages aloud in class and would sit there and smirk as I did it. That type of behavior toward a person that you know is struggling is inexcusable. What I don't like about this video is them saying stuttering is accompanied by facial "ticks". It's not like there are uncontrollable mental ticks going on, you're just trying to get the words out, via habitual behavior that you pick up in order to get the job done--or as close to done as possible
@ziontenor I disagree... they might actually be helping you to learn how to speak publicly in relatively small spaces, like a classroom. I see it as a practice area for my stuttering.
i stutter, doesnt slow me down. that girl needs some starter words. before i stutter, i say um and works fine. japanese co worker didnt know i stuttered until i told her 2 years later lol.
its harder for her, because the blinking and the head jerking are "secondary charicteristics" and when you have those, its worse. My son stutters and had those charicteristics but now he has a speach easy that he wears in his ear like a hearing aid and that stops him from stuttering. Its weird because if you don't stutter and try to wear it you can barely talk, but he talks fine. Its like an echo in your head that slows down speech. He says "because um" before he speaks without it.
