This procedure is ridiculously dangerous. This lane is for emergency stops only. Why the police put people in such a danger is beyond my comprehension.
Yea, our new procedures call for us to stand side ways at windows so we can see traffic comming from both directions, and still allowing us to see the driver/passenger. I would say over half of the deaths to police officers are caused by traffic accidents like this.
i had a similar accident about a year ago, my car broke down on the highway and i managed to make it to a stop at the side of the road, i got out and started walking away from the car towards a emergency phone but when i was about 2 meters away from my car a truck struck the rear end of my car and my own car came right at me nearly hitting me.
lucky for me the car missed me about a few inches. car was ruined but no1 got hurt.
