I had that biology book and it does NOT have a picture of Darwin every other chapter. We even skipped over the evolution section and it wasn't brought up anywhere else in class. I dunno what that guy was smoking but he did NOT read that book.
Let them believe in ID. Then of course they can't have any of those modern medicines we need sometimes cause they are 'intelligent designed' :p Problem solved.
@slask25 Uhm...that didn't come out the way I intended. Bleh, anyway my point was that since they believe in god, miracles and all that other crap, they can't have any of the stuff that science invented and by that, they will die out by themselves. Problem that is religion and religious people solved. Sigh, a man can dream...
@whiston532 So if something says it is correct, it's automatically correct? Well, that's just plain stupid. Have you ever actually thought for yourself?
If you can convince someone genital muitilation (circumcision) is a mandate of "GOD" you can convince them of anything. But then "GOD" may have a really twisted sense of humor? Regards
Being retarded(by not understanding evolution) is not an excuse for the rest of the world to suffer!Everybody who believes in religions is a moron as simple as that! Your numbers are getting less and less and this is the best example of evolution!
@ukarmy24 I'm originally from the USA, but I moved to Europe. Europeans laugh at the stupidity of a lot of Americans not believing in Evolution. Only crazy people in Europe believe in ID, creationism or any of that other crap.
The scary part is that we had a president for 8 years that believed in creationism (now rebranded ID) & that every Republican candidate for president in 2012 does as well. In fact, if you do not you will not win the Republican primaries. That's one of many reasons I will never vote for Republicans, the party of regressive, uneducated nitwits who are trying to drag us all back into the Middle Ages.
Correction: Letter T seems to have escaped in my last post. I'm not willing to be a house, but to BET a house. You know, since turning myself into a house would be about as possible as proving that ID has any basis in rigorous, testable science :) That idiot at the end is truly amazing calling the judge as clown that slept thru constitution class. He's the one who's a clown & obviously slept thru every class. And an angry lier too.
One more thing actually. I'm willing to be a house that the people who are commenting in support of ID have not even bothered to watch the entire show, or most likely not even half of it. The evidence presented is overwhelmingly in favor of evolution & shows ID to be a plot to introduce beliefs based purely on religion which is unconstitutional. Then again people on that side have no regards for facts or reason so it's unsurprising.
Part 3 (last). And to send death threats to him & anyone who disagreed with the introduction of intelligent design (as was proven simply a clever new marketing term for creationism) is real Christian of them.
To think that this is still a raging debate in one of the most developed countries in the world in the year 2011 is mind boggling.
Part 2. On the other you have morons claiming to be intelligent who don't have any clue what science is and are so not used to rigorous thinking that they make idiotic mistakes like this which exposes their true, sinister motives.
To blame the outcome on the judge & call him a judicial activist is ludicrous. He had absolutely no alternative in light of the evidence presented on all counts & was a Republican appointed by Bush.
Part 1. Just finished watching the whole program. My favorite part is "cdesign proponenists". When you have idiots going up against scientists it's like an NFL team playing a high school team in football. There could only be one outcome. On one hand you have incredibly intelligent people who are educated to do the most rigorous, factual work possible in support of their theories.
Society in America should be segregated, whereby religious people are called Dumb Fucks, and Atheists are called intelligent. Dumb Fucks should not be able to decide anything in regards to teaching children.
By listening to what many creationists say a picture evolves. It seems they regard it as a cultural issue, like you can choose science somehow. If you "choose" evolution then you are for the "survival of the fittest" culturally and politically which will lead to a kind of Nazi state. But you can "choose" not to have that science. Clearly a major conceptual delusion about what science is.
@chh5555 This view of evolution is a philosophy is promoted by the professional creationists in order to get people to be unwilling to look at the evidence.
Then they can subliment their idea that evolution is wrong with "evolution = Hitler, atheism, eugenecis, racism etc" and rather than accepting/rejecting it on scientific ground, they can now reject it purely on philosophical grounds instead which is much easier than actually discussing it with science - and so that´s the way they go.
@Korkzor Ironically enough those same people (I'm willing to bet 99% of them are staunch Republicans) are also for unregulated capitalism which is at its core survival of the fittest. Consistency in thought and intellectual honesty has never been the strength of religious fanatics.
@ranndino Yep - I find the hypocracy of those kinds of people to be the absolute most irritating thing in the world.
Those who deny evolution usually have some pretense of it leading to all kinds of bad things and a way of government that´s anti-social and a culture based on who is stronger.
Yet they are perfectly willing to support things like that.
I´ve even come across one who ranted on about how evolution lead to racism and Hitler, yet had np calling all atheists "sub-human" - oh, the irony
@MrJarth Unfortunately, if science and evolution are understood correctly, the inevitable result is to be come an atheist. The evidence and reasoning will just compel one to doubt religion, especially Judeo-Christian religion.
All scientific theories have gaps, i.e. gravity, relativity etc. Does that mean we don't teach them? Or...does it mean we explain to students what a theory is, how it works and why a theory necessarily excludes particular data. In other words, let's teach students the scientific method.
I have no respect for people who believe the world is under 10,000 years old when they are fully aware of the evidence to the contrary. Evolution has also been proven and people who deny it are simply either ignorant to the evidence or just simply defying science.
I think people are misuing the statement that "intelligent design is creationism disguised"
I agree Christians can use it that way (like some of the people in this video) but intelligent design doesn't automatically mean God... it could mean Space Aliens for all we know...
@Hackmodford The problem with that argument is it leads to the next question, "Who created the aliens? Other aliens?" Obviously, the ID people want you to eventually conclude that its god.
Since when has ID been classiifed as a science by anyone other than religious people? And isn't ID just another, updated, terms for the now out of date and ridiculous claims of creationism? Stoopid, stoopid.
4:04... "In the beginning God created... To me, that's all I need to know"... So KNOW IT.. you ALREADY "know it"! Like in ancient times, "God did it" and there is no need to do any more research! Tell it to your children, let them grow up to be as simple minded and stuck with ancient superstitions like you are!
And to that Alan Bansal (or however it's spelled)... You're a BUSINESSMAN... So STAY in business! Leave science for SCIENTISTS!!!
Isn't it enough that Islam ruined the Middle East and halted all scientific and mathematic progress in that region when it was forced onto people there?!? Are people REALLY THAT stupid AGAIN, and want the same thing to happen in USA now?!?
"Inherit the Wind" wasn't really about the Scopes trial. It was about McCarthyism, but used the Scopes trial to make its point.
Many sources tell us: "Scopes was not a science teacher and had never actually taught evolution. Scopes was a math teacher and football coach who had filled in ... " Scopes was willing to be the flunky for the ACLU who wanted to test the Butler Act.
Scopes said, “I don’t know if I’m a Christian, …but I believe there is a God.”
"Creationists ... reject much of modern science in favor of a literal reading of the Bible" Ridiculous! Evolutionists are like my Dad who couldn't distinguish himself from his alcoholism. I could see they were two entities (and thankfully, for the last two years of his life, he lived without it).
There is science and there is evolutionary philosophy. They are two separate entities, though they are almost universally conflated by proponents of Evolution.
I guess the problem, in the end, is that some (even most maybe?) people feel so damn superior and above the natural world that the thought that we are somehow part of it makes them shudder...what a sad, ego-centrical, self-loving view. besides educational problems, this also creates a lot of environmental problems these days. I really hope people wake up some day and start embracing our ancestry and evolution, which is an amazing, wonderful story!
Everyone who is reading this comment, please click on my username for my videos I made about the The Truth of the World. I have found out what the truth of life is, the truth of the world, and the truth of God. Please, I really want people to watch and listen what I have to say. After watching a few videos on ID, I noticed that any comments that are sceptical of ID regarding vids which are connected with the Discovery Institute are not posted. Reminds me of Scientology.
"in the beginning, God created that is all i need to know" wow how quickly and simple choice to make regarding life. It almost makes me think she's an idiot. Quickly and simply based on first impressions, well almost. Thank "God" life is not that simple too bad some people are
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Intelligent Design was not on Trial, nor was Dr. Michael Behe. This was a community fire that was well fueled and made so Dr. Behe in good conscience defended himself not Intelligent Design. The issue was should Darwinian Thinking - which has not, nor cannot be proved and still ranks in the level of a Theory should be taught to students side by side next to Intelligent Design Theory. The big question is, why should McGraw Hill support Darwinian Theory above another theory?
It's obvious from your ignorant comment that you're 1 of those "evolution is a theory, not a fact" people.
This is how embarrassing your position is. Even 'Answers in Genesis' a young-earth creationist website, has a list of 'Arguments that should never be used' that states:
"Evolution is just a theory. (Theory has a stronger meaning in scientific fields than in general usage..."
So if even a Creationist website says u shouldn't use the argument and *you* still do... wow... hav u no shame?
@jessc1979 A theory is something takes years to study and hone before it becomes a theory. I am a born again Christian and even I believe in evolution
Yeah, and we ought to teach Rupert Sheldrake's "Morphic Resonance" hypothesis, and Michael Cremo's "De-evolution" as well.
Saying "let's teach ID along side Evolution" reeks of incredulity. Just because the media has made you aware of the fundamentalist religious pet idea, does not mean it is a strict duality. It's a false duality. There are dozens of shelved "alternative" views.
It's utterly illogical, and will drag us further into an era of thoughtless unenlightenment.
@lokuzzz there is this great movie called Letting Go of God....its a great story of how Julia Sweeney, former cast member of SNL went from being very religious to a proud Atheist.....she answers all the concerns/questions ignorant christians have and demands answers and educates herself on those answers on her own....something most chrisitians never do...they are afraid to know the truth..they want to believe so bad. Anyway, please pass the info along to an ignorant christian near you:)
@whole27 a comedian and a bad one at that, as a source of info for theological debate over evolution or creation , and you called Christians ignorant ,,,,wow did you even read your own statement before posting it,,,,lol
My favorite part of this series is Pat Robertson, "I'd like to say to the good citizens of Dover: if there is a disaster in your area, don't turn to God, you just rejected Him from your city. And don't wonder why he hasn't helped you when problems begin..." Remember, the intelligent designers claimed this was NOT about religion in the classroom.
The statements that say intelligent design isn't all science if true in many ways! There are many, many scientific discoveries that support intelligent design. We are not necessarily arguing to bring Christian basis back to our world,, just implying that there is some intelligent being who created us.
Just sit back and think a minute, everything around us, everything we are is a result of our ancestors and thinking. We all came from something somewhere that can only be traced back so far...
You need to understand what "theory" and "science" are. It is true that we can only trace things back so far, but then the correct answer then becomes "We don't know" rather than "some mysterious force must be responsible it then".
no need to lie, the truth of it is out in the open. even the wedge documents are viewable to everyone and the motives are chrystal clear. if you really think IDiotism is not christian movement, care to explain two things= 1) why does even the vaguest of references of IDiotism (or creationism, same thing) always personify the intelligence? 2) why do the objection of evolution and the eventual demonisation of the dissent always base itself on completely christian values?
lol. it hasn't been proved. in fact. thanks to microbiology scientists themselves are disproving it. almost 50% of them don't believe in evolution and most of the other 50% aren't event in that department. . and if you watched and listened to the video, teachers are now required to tell students that there are gaps in the evolution theory. pop. sorry to burst your bubble
50% huh. Thats funny I don't know a single biologist who would support your claim. But thats what happens when people pull numbers out of their asses. And yeah everything in science has gaps in it. Our current understanding of gravity has gaps in it. Does that mean that gravity does not exist no it doesn't.
Not to mention there is more than enough geological evidence to disprove the young earth idea which I.D. supports. What a tit. Ok I'm insulting you again but damn your easy.
really? huh go look it up. i did and that's what i found. and i've looked plenty of times? and i doubt you know more than 1 biologist. and tell me something? why is it that when atheists and evolutionsist run out of intelligent things to say they resort to name calling> hmm sounds like somebody is getting their feelings hurt. and further more.. you don't know me nor anything about me. whats the point of trying to insult me as a person because i believe differently?
id prefer if you didn't class intelligent atheists and evolutionists, as well I've never seen 1 run out of things to say, or resort to name calling, stupid people are everywhere
i happen to like the color orange best you may not does that make me hate you? no does it make me call you a moron and such no. you believe in evolution i happen to think it's stupid and is full of gaps. you have no clue what i believe and what i don't. so just because your life sucks doesn't give you the right to harass me or mine. so buh bye. translation- Leave me alone. go find a boyfriend or something.
calling me names isn't going to sway my decision. give me some facts that have yet to be disproven by science itself then get back to me so....i guess you won't be getting back to me. so
Its not up to opinion anymore its up to where the evidence points to. And for your information 99.9 percent of scientists agree that evolution is the way it happened. Your just another fool who buys into the propaganda that the discovery institute puts out. Find a single biologists who agrees with you then I will apologize. Until then go back and read about biology oh dumb one.
Tober,et al~matter in the Universe is OF the Universe, and must therefore follow the Laws of the Universe, tu wit~~
putting the mass of the earth together generates friction, which is also required to keep the mass together...friction means heat, lots of it!! In fact a startling amount, as follows~
mass of Earth = 5.9742 × 10 24th kilograms
the speed of light = 300,000,000 m / s
E=mc2, resulting in 54x10 40th joules of energy,or
Since Genesis is wrong, it follows that Biblical creationism and ID are also wrong, as is scriptural literalism of any kind without hard evidence...Darwin is not accepted literally and has been shown to be in error with respect to gradualism, for example...so too does the Bible have errors!
If you seriously believe in ID, you have to wonder why adolescents have the capacity to reproduce so many years before they are equipped to handle it. I would label that Careless Design or even Reckless Design.
'scientific doctrine' and that stupid ad for id, hm, I wonder why general relativity didn't have this stuff. Maybe because it was an actual scientific theory.
D.E.S.I.G.N. = "I'm Now Typing Each Letter Like Intelligent Guidance Encoded Natural Things. DNA's Encoding Shows Intelligent Guidance Now!"
I am a former atheist who experienced physically palpable miracles from the biblical God...... All atheists/evolutionists are in for a heuristic shock someday if they don't change course now!!!
atheist/evolutionists, crap most of the ppl fighting ID here are Christians. They don't want their kids being taught that science and religion are incompatible. Unlike you.
It's not his job to review a science textbook- that's so called a disguised form of censorship. By the way, he's a retired police. What is the point of giving it to him? lol.
If you mean "what if they win the war?", that's not gonna happen. Creationists may win a few battles by rallying support among the less educated, but as long as the Internet exists, it'll be practically impossible to outright destroy knowledge as sometimes happened in ancient times; therefore, this is a war creationists can only lose.
perhaps in this instance yes but dont get excited its still scientific even though in this situation it was a creationist instance but you cant get rid of a theory becuase you are afraid it might imply God thats keeping science in a box
That's one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. Are you serious? If you believe in intelligent design, YOU ARE A CREATIONIST. By designing anything, you are creating something from nothing. It appears you are too daft to understand this concept
Lol I guess you have not seen this show. The judge in the case declares that intelligent design is creationism with a new name. The text book in question was written with the word creationism. When teaching it became illegal they did a find and replace and swapped it out for intelligent design. They even had "cdesign proponentsists" in the book which is creationists left in on accident with design proponents crammed in the middle.
Lol your a funny guy. I was not insulting anyone. I just stated a fact. Scientists have already done all the science for me so why bother explaining it to a scientific illiterate like yourself? Ok now I'm insulting you. Please in the future make sure you know the difference between an insult and a factual statement.
As I said before scientists have already done all the explaining for me. Your probably some douche bag who works for the discovery institute. What a laugh. Just the fact that you said evolution is stupid and is denied by 50% of scientists makes your credentials completely meaningless.
As a matter of statistics 99.9% of scientists think that evolution is true. Genetics leaves no room for denial anymore. Go back to your hole creationist.
I NEVER SAID THAT... you are quite stupid. Thanks for the laughs though. Can you even read? Do you know what your even talking about? Maybe you should ask your mom about mannerisms.
I am not a creationist. I never even said a single word
in favor of evolution or Intelligent design or creationism.
My comment was referring to the "less evolved" people
like yourself throwing taunts and mindless ridicules at
opposing views rather than scientific discussion (because you don't know the science).
How can you have a retired police officer who probably knows nothing of biology making decisions like that??? Creationism is ridiculous, I've looked at every piece of evidence and argument they've presented and I can say they have nothing to support their belief. Intelligent design is just as bad and just as untrue. They should have knowledgeable people deciding the curriculum. Not ignorant creationists.
Why can't Christians accept both their religion and the possibility of evolution? I am a Christian but I believe science and religion can connect in various ways in different subject matters. I think they both can work together, and evolution is one theory that doesn't go against religion in my opinion; perhaps the Big Bang Theory is questionable from a Christian perspective, but still interesting to learn about and under no circumstances should be just disregarded by anyone with any views.
I totally agree with you lovinglife, I'm a Christian as well, and I abhor the idea of a literal old testament. Even if it were literally true, God could have created the earth in 7 days, from his perspective, if he were moving near the speed of light. I believe in a God that doesn't have to "duct tape" the universe together with divine intervention. I trust that he calculated the course of events (forming of solar system, evolution of man, etc), before the big bang, and watched it happen.
I like the way the credible scientists are in front of lab equipment and have phd's, where as the cracked creationists have no credentials. hahahahah

In a sick way, I would love a Flat Earther or a rock to debate a creationist and find out how it feels.

And an angry lier too.
ranndino 1 year ago
One more thing actually. I'm willing to be a house that the people who are commenting in support of ID have not even bothered to watch the entire show, or most likely not even half of it. The evidence presented is overwhelmingly in favor of evolution & shows ID to be a plot to introduce beliefs based purely on religion which is unconstitutional. Then again people on that side have no regards for facts or reason so it's unsurprising.
ranndino 1 year ago
Part 3 (last). And to send death threats to him & anyone who disagreed with the introduction of intelligent design (as was proven simply a clever new marketing term for creationism) is real Christian of them.
To think that this is still a raging debate in one of the most developed countries in the world in the year 2011 is mind boggling.
ranndino 1 year ago 2
Part 2. On the other you have morons claiming to be intelligent who don't have any clue what science is and are so not used to rigorous thinking that they make idiotic mistakes like this which exposes their true, sinister motives.
To blame the outcome on the judge & call him a judicial activist is ludicrous. He had absolutely no alternative in light of the evidence presented on all counts & was a Republican appointed by Bush.
ranndino 1 year ago
Part 1. Just finished watching the whole program. My favorite part is "cdesign proponenists". When you have idiots going up against scientists it's like an NFL team playing a high school team in football. There could only be one outcome. On one hand you have incredibly intelligent people who are educated to do the most rigorous, factual work possible in support of their theories.

tharealkovo 1 year ago
By listening to what many creationists say a picture evolves. It seems they regard it as a cultural issue, like you can choose science somehow. If you "choose" evolution then you are for the "survival of the fittest" culturally and politically which will lead to a kind of Nazi state. But you can "choose" not to have that science. Clearly a major conceptual delusion about what science is.
chh5555 1 year ago 3
@chh5555 This view of evolution is a philosophy is promoted by the professional creationists in order to get people to be unwilling to look at the evidence.
Then they can subliment their idea that evolution is wrong with "evolution = Hitler, atheism, eugenecis, racism etc" and rather than accepting/rejecting it on scientific ground, they can now reject it purely on philosophical grounds instead which is much easier than actually discussing it with science - and so that´s the way they go.
Korkzor 1 year ago
@Korkzor Ironically enough those same people (I'm willing to bet 99% of them are staunch Republicans) are also for unregulated capitalism which is at its core survival of the fittest. Consistency in thought and intellectual honesty has never been the strength of religious fanatics.
ranndino 1 year ago 5
@ranndino Yep - I find the hypocracy of those kinds of people to be the absolute most irritating thing in the world.
Those who deny evolution usually have some pretense of it leading to all kinds of bad things and a way of government that´s anti-social and a culture based on who is stronger.
Yet they are perfectly willing to support things like that.
I´ve even come across one who ranted on about how evolution lead to racism and Hitler, yet had np calling all atheists "sub-human" - oh, the irony

All scientific theories have gaps, i.e. gravity, relativity etc. Does that mean we don't teach them? Or...does it mean we explain to students what a theory is, how it works and why a theory necessarily excludes particular data. In other words, let's teach students the scientific method.
peasantsoul 1 year ago
I have no respect for people who believe the world is under 10,000 years old when they are fully aware of the evidence to the contrary. Evolution has also been proven and people who deny it are simply either ignorant to the evidence or just simply defying science.

Creationists don't have that problem.

I guess the problem, in the end, is that some (even most maybe?) people feel so damn superior and above the natural world that the thought that we are somehow part of it makes them shudder...what a sad, ego-centrical, self-loving view. besides educational problems, this also creates a lot of environmental problems these days.
Trip03ci 2 years ago
It's obvious from your ignorant comment that you're 1 of those "evolution is a theory, not a fact" people.
This is how embarrassing your position is. Even 'Answers in Genesis' a young-earth creationist website, has a list of 'Arguments that should never be used' that states:
"Evolution is just a theory. (Theory has a stronger meaning in scientific fields than in general usage..."
So if even a Creationist website says u shouldn't use the argument and *you* still do... wow... hav u no shame?

Yeah, and we ought to teach Rupert Sheldrake's "Morphic Resonance" hypothesis, and Michael Cremo's "De-evolution" as well.
Saying "let's teach ID along side Evolution" reeks of incredulity. Just because the media has made you aware of the fundamentalist religious pet idea, does not mean it is a strict duality. It's a false duality. There are dozens of shelved "alternative" views.
It's utterly illogical, and will drag us further into an era of thoughtless unenlightenment.

50% huh. Thats funny I don't know a single biologist who would support your claim. But thats what happens when people pull numbers out of their asses. And yeah everything in science has gaps in it. I even stand on the debate. If you had known both

algorithm007 2 years ago
As I said before scientists have already done all the explaining for me. Your probably some douche bag who works for the discovery institute. What a laugh. Just the fact that you said evolution is stupid and is denied by 50% of scientists makes your credentials completely meaningless.

Why can't Christians accept both their religion and the possibility of evolution? I am a Christian but I believe science and religion can connect in various ways in different subject matters. I think they both can work together, and evolution is one theory that doesn't go against religion in my opinion; perhaps the Big Bang Theory is questionable from a Christian perspective, but still interesting to learn about and under no circumstances should be just disregarded by anyone with any views.
lovinglife139 3 years ago 3
I totally agree with you lovinglife, I'm a Christian as well, and I abhor the idea of a literal old testament. Even if it were literally true, God could have created the earth in 7 days, from his perspective, if he were moving near the speed of light. I believe in a God that doesn't have to "duct tape" the universe together with divine intervention. I trust that he calculated the course of events (forming of solar system, evolution of man, etc), before the big bang, and watched it happen.
