mma is far more technical than kyokushin competition, where it's mainly about moving forward and just punching and kicking more than your opponent.

Lyoto machida has won several championships in shotokan karate. And is the lhw champ of the ufc. Very technical striker.

Shinya Aoki, Bj penn, Kazyushi sakuraba, Fedor emelianenko, Anderson silva, Katsuhiro kikuno (kyokushin fighter).

They are all very, very techical.

@BlackwallstreetBIH : i agree, MMA is more technical while Kyokushin is great in training our kicks and punches as well as body endurance against body shots. Many MMA fighters (not world level of course) don't have good standup basics yet they can fight their way around to victory using combines tactics. Both are good, why constantly arguing about which one is better? i train in both including some FMA arts and enjoy them all.

I would guarentee that if a bunch of fighters from the UFC were to train in Kyokushin or any other full contact karate style the way you're suppose to train in it, they would probably quit. Those who bad mouth karate styles have never seen the practice and training that goes into to. I compare that type of training to the way Jerry Rice and Walter Payton used to train in the offseason to prepare for the upcoming NFL season when they played.

personally i find muay thai overrated. I would substitute muay thai with kung fu. Kyokushin for the extremely intense physical training, and kung fu for the intense mental training. Mind body and soul my man

I practiced Tae Kwon Do for 10 years and currently for the past 6 months switched to Muay Thai. There is a superior stand up fighting style and it is Muay Thai. Muay Thai is very simple which makes it effectives. TKD there are too many techniques, so you can't utilize them all. Muay Thai has pretty much 4 moves, elbowing, kicking, punching and kneeing. I can easily see if my TKD classmates went up against my Muay Thai classmates, they would get their asses whooped.

It all depends on how the individual finds every art he/she practices. There are many techniques in BJJ too. Would you call it useless? The presence of "too many techniques" as a negating influence to the art is a weak argument.

Kyokushin is the most painfull martial art,if you wish to try, just stop by your nearest kyokushin dojo. The only reason you're saying that is because you've been watching too much UFC, where they rarely do a clean stand up fight, and not enough pain. If you're saying that kyokushin is pussy because they don't punch to the face, you're mistaking. If kykushin would allow punches to the face there would be a lot more death and brain damaged people you could imagine.

It's well known from tournaments such as K1 (much bigger than UFC) that body shots are worthless against a full contact karate practioneer. That is because they have harder body than most (muay thai fight with gloves).

ilovesilvia, landing a punch to the face does not require much skill-it does however do unnecessary damage to the head.If you land a strong kick to the head then it shows you have a skill. Everyone can get lucky to land a face punch.

Check out K-1 fighters -most of the winners are from Kyokushin.
