  • I had a similar issue with my G-Limited but it was at around 1100 rpm and bouncing + or - 100 rpm. Cleaned, lubricated and adjusted the idle control valve on the throttle assy and it ticks over very nice. It also got rid of the over revving under hard braking / coming to a stop and even managed to pass an emissions test lol

    PS. the idle control valve uses 2 solenoids and a fluctuating magnetic field, you may need to reset the ecu after cleaning it to see any benefit.

  • Thanks for your comment and tech information. I will check up the TPS and also ECU. The specific symptom happens on hot weather which means after full enough heating and steady on normal idling then RPM start ticking and SOMTIMES it dropping and goes up between 500 - 1000.

  • Are you running stainless or standard system? I run stainless with sport cat and as it's more of a straight through set up, the exhaust expels equally but I'm not sure that was the case with my previous standard system and it certainly comes out more one side than the other on my other car which is MGTF unless the throttle is opened right up.

    I think it is worth checking your TPS in this instance and if it's not that then get diagnostics on the ECU..also try a few drops of 3 in 1 on the throt

  • I have the same car with intermittent over idle off choke. (see my video of the issue) Suspect my problem may be TPS but yours may be ECU perhaps ? Good luck and I hope you get it sorted. Superb cars.

  • @raggedurchinrascal Thanks for the comments, Most of MR2 had a TPS problem? is it common issue? I was guessing about TPS, ECU and Exhaust faulty (smoke doesn't come out equally). Any other ideas??
