  • what did nike do to these malaysians ? ( i'm french and i don't understand)

Thank you if you can help me

  • I'm french and i talk and understand basic english.

Can somebody explain me what did nike do to these malaysoans please ?

  • Guys! i just bought a nike shirt for only 5 dollars in a cheap store! But when i go to the original nike store its fucking 50 dollars! I was like What the fuck!

  • OMG NOW I KNOW WERE ALL MY MONEY GOES TO AND WILL NEVER GO TO AGAIN

  • FUCK MALAYSIA GOV!! used force labour? WTF is that mean?

  • @wilsonxmct u dont know what forced labour means? dont even bother commenting.

  • published july 2008

  • poor NIKE

  • it is inhumane. I am Malaysian but not so proud of Malaysia now. this is clearly a corruption issue with cops and government officials. How does it only take an Australian to gain access and publish this story and not one malaysian news about this?? ? there must be lots of heartless malaysians who take bribes when they threaten to complain. This attitude must die!!

  • @prataaap it's not malaysia. it's nike. big difference.

  • brainless ha?oh well since i stay in malaysia in the past 2 years chinese are selfish

  • as a malaysian i never knew this sort of thing happened. sweat shops are all over the world, even in europe and the states. labourers migrate with the promise of a better life and higher wages and end up trapped. however now that i know this i will of course make an informed decision not to buy anything from hytex including nike, adidas, world of cartoons and their own hytex merchandise.

  • hey westerners, don't be surprised, this is happening throughout the world, even in you own countries, just that you didn't realize it....

nike should be more aware of how their contractors work, and the malaysian government should be monitoring the immigrants and foreign workers. but i'm pretty sure, they didn't "missed" this, more because of corruption.

  • Hytex bosses are those ppl who should be at fault. Also the Malaysian government. Why Nike's the one to be blamed?

If one can't afford a Nike product, just don't buy it. Don't blame and ask people to ban the product.

  • holly shit! i never knew about this. This is what we call Malaysia Boleh??? ppft.

  • It's not forced labour !! it's labour living in bad condition. Go to china... there's more serious cases there!!! possibly no pay at all... just meals & accomodation.

  • It's not forced labour !! it's labour living in bad condition.

  • the owner must be chinese money for their own good useless human are for slave

  • @oxyzul brainless prediction

  • This is embarrassing!I love Malaysia but not it's selfish ignorance.Politician should stop worrying about what another politician said about him or her then make public news about it and should instead look at the real problem!

  • But still we see so many foreign labour coming in Malaysia to suffer. I guess, not only Nike, a lot more factory doing the same...

  • At least they're not farming in WoW to 'feed famry'.

  • I like that idea of people working and living in the same location, that's very eco-friendly.

  • @trevgoodchild I agree that it is eco friendly but not in those conditions, would you want to live like that?

  • damnit nike... why do you have to make such awesome shoes...

  • @RLhockey203

if you learn to value human beings more than shoes it becomes so easy to not care about nikes that it makes you wonder why you ever did. in fact, once you become oblivious to the value of a brand name you begin to feel incredibly liberated.

  • @RLhockey203

Nike doesn't. These poor bastards do.

  • Good piece of investigative work, a long lost art in the United States

  • boycott nike..fuck nike...fuck the MDs....

  • Man, that's how life is all around the world. $6 a day isnt bad when the food cost $1 a day and rent is $2. You cannot base the lives of these people to that of your own. Their lives may be better now than back home where they have NO work at all. Everyone loves to complain, especially to a foreigner with a news camera. Nike isn't the cause of poverty and corruption.

  • @kbat82

    "may be better"

    is a huge assumption.

and nobody in the history of human rights has ever claimed that nike is the cause of poverty and corruption.

you haven't formed an argument at all, but somehow it seems like you think you've said something convincing or worth listening to.

  • @professorcuddlecore "may be better" is obviously an assumption because I cannot go there myself and interview each person. However, I HAVE been to many developing nations (including Malaysia) and have seen how difficult life is for them. I am currently in the Philippines, a country that thrives off foreign investment (especially call centers). I have made an argument, it's just that you are unable to comprehend it.

  • yep buying asics

  • Malaysia has one of the worst labor laws in the world and its the most easiest to exploit thats why this is being done here.

  • @Jas2davir

is your point that we should be angry at malaysia and not nike? because i think that in this case we can be angry at both. it takes two to tango, man.

  • @professorcuddlecore well being angry at nike and boycotting nike wouldn't solve much, lets say the whole world boycotted nike and then nike bankrupted what then? will malaysia have better labor laws that protects its workers against companies that exploit their workers? no thats why i feel its better to deal with the root of the problem then dealing with the exploiters, im not saying nike should get a free pass out of this, im saying after malaysian government get their share nike should also.

  • @Jas2davir

what is the root of the problem and how do we deal with it?

  • But surely if they didnt work for Nike then these people would have even worse lives

  • @ScaleyManFish1

i wud rather be a poor/hungry man then a slave anyday for f***in nike company.westerners alway take advantage of poorer countries for higher profits.while jobs in the west is at a low.so for that nike can go suck.ive got a pair of nike trainers. once there used up and in the bin.thats the last time i will buy nike ever again.adidas/reebok

  • @ScaleyManFish1

for sure, maybe they'd be living on a farm and eating their own food and living in communities where people create their own meaning and values, maybe there is some indigenous way of living they would go back to. maybe they would become empowered human beings and modify the structure of their government and local social organization in ways that they would like to see. that would be so bad i feel the hot tears running down my face already.

  • @professorcuddlecore Don't you think if that was as easy as you say these people would have done that long before they worked for Nike? They have cleary ended up working for Nike because they have no other options. Obviously if they could live in that way, I agree it would be great.

  • Boycott Nike

  • yeh well people need to work to support themselves and families, if it wasnt for these companies, these people would be begging on the streets or possibly forced into far more seedier work. is that better?

  • just the tip of the iceberg

    this is worldwide

    debt Is slavery

why are there so many willing slaves?

    just don't buy it!

  • to australia goverment you can take all that people and give them work....don"t make fucking story about malaysia

  • @ayamkillers Dude pull your head out of your ass and look at the company doing this, it just happens to be in Malaysia. Hell it could be any South East Asian country (Indo, Vietnam etc etc). The idea that you trap people into work is abhorrent and that is the scenario posed by these news item...

  • @LanciNZ On a sidenote I'm part Malaysian and proud...

  • this is stupid australian who want to make money by making shit story about malaysia...in malaysia the most criminal made by foreigner worker like indonesian, vietnam and naples

  • Thats fucking terrible, especialy when nike shoes are being sold in stores for $100 - $300AUD

  • @Andy9742

shoes aren't made in malaysia. only apparel.

  • This is clearly unethical and should be stopped. However, it's a bit of stretch to lay all blame on Nike. Nike owns almost no factories in the world as it contracts out most of its production, and asks suppliers to sign a "ethical standards" contract. It does spot checks, but largely, it trusts its suppliers. To blame Nike similar to blaming every Nike buyer for buying a product that is made with forced labor - you should have gone to the factory and checked yourself first!

  • Nike should be pressured to step up it's screening of contractors and enforcement of contracts, but, for better or worse, it likely holds no legal responsibility for this...

  • this is digusting. seeing this video does make me sick.

  • How can people tolerate this, this is a discrace, makes me sick

  • HMm :s sad moment guyz

  • fcukingqq sads quyy (savemyplaylist) lol!

  • 1. stop buying nike

    2. don't work in malaysia

    3. don't come to malaysia

  • @mangerik

    you are wrong....

the person who did it is not a malaysian but THE NIKE AND THE OWNER OF THIS MONSTER BRAND...

  • @mangerik the problem is on Hytex. in addition, those foreigners are NOT malaysian. most of the foreigners come from Myanmar, Bangladesh, Indonesia and work. becoz their own country can't provide jobs to them.

  • @mangerik it's not the country's fault, it's the foreign company itself.

  • @mangerik i totally agreed with you mangerik.but why you say 'don't work at malaysia' and 'don't come to malaysia'?It is not MALAYSIA fault, but NIKE company fault okay.Shame on you.ppfftt

  • Just goes to show you propaganda goes a long way.The Malasian government should be held SOME accountability Don't you think?I do believe some things I read or see on the news but not all. They don't tell everything.

  • yeah all true

  • diiiisgustingg

  • NIKE SUCKS

  • really shame shame pants on fire.

  • soft

  • Malaysia news never reported this. How sad...

  • NIke is stupid anyway. They use forced labor and their products are cheap and useless.

  • but sold in a high cost !!the fact is now third world country are producing every thing and US is only selling the brand:)

  • i'm curious, if the clothes are made in such dirty conditions, how come they are so clean and pristine on the shelves?

  • good quistion

  • dumb question

  • Workers are washed and cleaned before they get on the work floor. The work floor is clean; their living quarters are a disaster...

  • mexicaneddy, the funny thing is, they make Nikes in Mexico too.

  • I say throw Nike owners in jail. The bastards!! This is shameful., I'm not buying nomore stuff of Nike after seeing this video.

  • ha'ah..

    support our products!!

aku tengok products d'orang most of it tulis made in taiwan n china jer??xpenah lak tgok made in malaysia..

anyway, benda ni bukan berlaku kat malaysia jer,ada lagi negara lain guna..

    child labour lagi..

    haa..

  • Belilah Barangan Buatan Malaysia

    JKiNG, CHEETAH, FOREST, ANTIONI...

  • I'm never buying Nike again

  • Great article! I can't believe Nike would think they could get away with doing this.

  • this is nothing to feel so shocked about this news. many people from poorer country are being treated like this by our government.this video is just one of the example of how our goverment treat them. Everyone in should be treated equally although they are from different countries or different races. this should not happen because malaysia is one of the country which consists of variety races.

  • How is Nike our government? The $800 fee the people pay up front is a room and board fee. The fact of the matter is: people would not work there if they had a better opportunity. We cannot hold their labor conditions to the same standard as ours because it is a different world.

  • ahhh, but your logic is not sound. as the reporter explained, these people were promised good work and living quarters by the recruiters. as soon as they got to the factory they were forced to sign a contract and give up their passport. They didn't KNOW they would be forced to work for almost nothing and horrible housing and have their passport taken. They were deceived and thus it was not their choice. They thought this was the better opportunity.

  • This is nothing new! It's a story repeated all over Asia. Third world labourers working for a pittance - NET salary levels that are meagre even in their own home countries.

Govt's and contractors in these countries have absolutely no sense of social justice. Just a mentality of pure greed and rampant exploitation.

They should outlaw charging workers fees for job placements. New staff pay employers a fee equal to 1 years pay - which is returned to workers as monthly salaries!

  • While it's no excuse that Nike did not monitor the operation of its contractors, it is the Malaysian company Hytex which should be penalized. This should be a wake-up cal to irresponsible Malaysian organizations that treat people from poorer country like animals. It's such a shame that our HR minister S. Subramaniam try to cover this up. It won't go down well in the next election.
