In all this game, the devil is losing and at the end will be accused of everything because GOD don’t want any rivals. Conclusion: live at the full in the freedom of GOD (praying in a right form, following the INSTRUCTIONS in the Bible - keeping the 10 commandments - including keeping the Saturday as the 7th day etc.) instead of in the incapacity and limited power of devil because he is just a temporary puppet. Jesus Christ is our savior and our hope!
Guys! i just bought a nike shirt for only 5 dollars in a cheap store! But when i go to the original nike store its fucking 50 dollars! I was like What the fuck!
it is inhumane. I am Malaysian but not so proud of Malaysia now. this is clearly a corruption issue with cops and government officials. How does it only take an Australian to gain access and publish this story and not one malaysian news about this?? ? there must be lots of heartless malaysians who take bribes when they threaten to complain. This attitude must die!!
as a malaysian i never knew this sort of thing happened. sweat shops are all over the world, even in europe and the states. labourers migrate with the promise of a better life and higher wages and end up trapped. however now that i know this i will of course make an informed decision not to buy anything from hytex including nike, adidas, world of cartoons and their own hytex merchandise.
hey westerners, don't be surprised, this is happening throughout the world, even in you own countries, just that you didn't realize it....
nike should be more aware of how their contractors work, and the malaysian government should be monitoring the immigrants and foreign workers. but i'm pretty sure, they didn't "missed" this, more because of corruption.
It's not forced labour !! it's labour living in bad condition. Go to china... there's more serious cases there!!! possibly no pay at all... just meals & accomodation.
This is embarrassing!I love Malaysia but not it's selfish ignorance.Politician should stop worrying about what another politician said about him or her then make public news about it and should instead look at the real problem!
if you learn to value human beings more than shoes it becomes so easy to not care about nikes that it makes you wonder why you ever did. in fact, once you become oblivious to the value of a brand name you begin to feel incredibly liberated.
Man, that's how life is all around the world. $6 a day isnt bad when the food cost $1 a day and rent is $2. You cannot base the lives of these people to that of your own. Their lives may be better now than back home where they have NO work at all. Everyone loves to complain, especially to a foreigner with a news camera. Nike isn't the cause of poverty and corruption.
@professorcuddlecore "may be better" is obviously an assumption because I cannot go there myself and interview each person. However, I HAVE been to many developing nations (including Malaysia) and have seen how difficult life is for them. I am currently in the Philippines, a country that thrives off foreign investment (especially call centers). I have made an argument, it's just that you are unable to comprehend it.
is your point that we should be angry at malaysia and not nike? because i think that in this case we can be angry at both. it takes two to tango, man.
@professorcuddlecore well being angry at nike and boycotting nike wouldn't solve much, lets say the whole world boycotted nike and then nike bankrupted what then? will malaysia have better labor laws that protects its workers against companies that exploit their workers? no thats why i feel its better to deal with the root of the problem then dealing with the exploiters, im not saying nike should get a free pass out of this, im saying after malaysian government get their share nike should also.
i wud rather be a poor/hungry man then a slave anyday for f***in nike company.westerners alway take advantage of poorer countries for higher profits.while jobs in the west is at a low.so for that nike can go suck.ive got a pair of nike trainers. once there used up and in the bin.thats the last time i will buy nike ever again.adidas/reebok
for sure, maybe they'd be living on a farm and eating their own food and living in communities where people create their own meaning and values, maybe there is some indigenous way of living they would go back to. maybe they would become empowered human beings and modify the structure of their government and local social organization in ways that they would like to see. that would be so bad i feel the hot tears running down my face already.
@professorcuddlecore Don't you think if that was as easy as you say these people would have done that long before they worked for Nike? They have cleary ended up working for Nike because they have no other options. Obviously if they could live in that way, I agree it would be great.
yeh well people need to work to support themselves and families, if it wasnt for these companies, these people would be begging on the streets or possibly forced into far more seedier work. is that better?
@ayamkillers Dude pull your head out of your ass and look at the company doing this, it just happens to be in Malaysia. Hell it could be any South East Asian country (Indo, Vietnam etc etc). The idea that you trap people into work is abhorrent and that is the scenario posed by these news item...
this is stupid australian who want to make money by making shit story about malaysia...in malaysia the most criminal made by foreigner worker like indonesian, vietnam and naples
This is clearly unethical and should be stopped. However, it's a bit of stretch to lay all blame on Nike. Nike owns almost no factories in the world as it contracts out most of its production, and asks suppliers to sign a "ethical standards" contract. It does spot checks, but largely, it trusts its suppliers. To blame Nike similar to blaming every Nike buyer for buying a product that is made with forced labor - you should have gone to the factory and checked yourself first!
Nike should be pressured to step up it's screening of contractors and enforcement of contracts, but, for better or worse, it likely holds no legal responsibility for this...
@mangerik the problem is on Hytex. in addition, those foreigners are NOT malaysian. most of the foreigners come from Myanmar, Bangladesh, Indonesia and work. becoz their own country can't provide jobs to them.

Hytex bosses are those ppl who should be at fault. Also the Malaysian government. Why Nike's the one to be blamed?
If one can't afford a Nike product, just don't buy it. Don't blame and ask people to ban the product.
