could I suggest the other cover of FJD by Alain Caron? (live version the best)
for me the piano solo is one of the most similar in inspiration as the original brian's solo in the studio version of FDJ from the album "second wind" ...
but, of course, I will die with in my ears the first version of Brian's FDJ with Alex Ligertwood, the true state of grace...
Brian is the greatest but this version of FJD isn't. 'Unfortunately', I know this masterpiece from the 1974 Doldinger Jubilee Tour in Germany where he was backed by two fantastic drummers (Pete York & Curt Cress) + bass and another keyboard player. OMG, all hell broke loose in just 2:30 minutes!
@octopus34 I was always blown away by his '72 version. It got alot of air play on LA black stations and reached #1. Had a vocal track but was very difficult to make out lyrics.
a fucking, fucking genius. been into this guy since the 60s and he just gets better and better. This is what music is all about, with very few exceptions, forget the new shit, it doesn't come close. rock,n,roll ain't no noise pollution
I`m a guitarist, so forgive me if I`m wrong, but I think I heard that part of the reason for Brian`s beautiful sound is because he doesn`t use a Leslie at all, but only the vibrato from the Hammond.

Dude looks like a dock worker. Him and Tommy Tedesco walking up the street towards me makes me hide my thumbs.

Yeah, years ago I noticed he doesn't use the Leslie [fwiw]. I bought the Oblivion Express LP when it was new and we covered this tune then.

If you ever get the chance to see Brian Auger live, do not miss it!
His skills on piano and B3 are incredible, his band, the "Oblivion Express" is simply great, and Brian is a very nice man. Go and see him!
