Its more noticable later in the game, for some reason only some textures look bad without the texture pack. Using it helps to clear up the ones that are like that. Like Carvers sword in kirkwall, drives me up the wall.
it is horrible compared to what is possible on the PC. I'm not talking about the shit XBOX and Playstation can show, but look at Crysis 1 - good graphics (but bad game in my eyes). Doom 3, Chronicles of Riddick and Far Cry came in 2004 and they are on the same level as DA2 in terms of graphics. Didn't say DA2 is a bad game, i enjoyed it, but graphics suck for sure.
@revanskywalker So because you obviously dont approve of the art style its makes the graphics bad? Looking at the character models this was not intended to look real maybe thats where your getting bad graphics from idk but you cant compare an RPG to shooter games when it comes to graphics ESIV Oblivion came out in 2006 along with Gears of War and Gears looks far better which can be said about many other RPGs in comparison to shooters
art style? negative space? come on, that was the biggest joke of gaming history. I love BioWare, but that was ridiculous. No vegetation at all as a feature? Amazing!!!! Look at Witcher 2, that is one RPG with great graphics and a beautiful art style. and the fact that DA2 is an rpg doesn't make the graphics better.
From what I can tell, the high res pack is unnecessary. The game looks just as good without it. Or at least I can't tell the difference, and I do have the pack installed.
I was hoping for more of a minecraft texture pack difference.
@blurayuser You're probably right, but I also saw hi-res screencaps side by side and still didn't see much of a difference. Then again, you can't really tell by the Blight scenes, the brown monotonous rock texture isn't very conductive to such comparison.
Wow what a riposte! I'm floored. As English isn't your first language, I'd better explain.
In an argument, you need to show why your opponent's argument is wrong. Simply saying "You're from Bioware" doesn't invalidate my argument, it's simply an ad hominem argument (which is a logical fallacy, (that means your argument fails)).
Oh wait...logic doesn't apply in any of your arguments, there's my mistake right there. (Again, I should probably explain, that is sarcasm.)
If you'd ever worked on a major software project, you'd know that it's always a case of releasing when it's acceptable, rather than "finished". To keep working on a project until it's finished in your sense would mean the software would never be released or would cost the client far more than it is worth to them. No company will spend more on a project than they can recoup from it; it's not sound business.
BTW You're wrong on DA2 being "unfinished" due to no high-res textures.
I mean you were complaining about the Very High settings being removed for "some unknown reason". Which either means you are lying about what graphics card you have, or you've failed to install your drivers and then whined on the internet about your game not working.
So which is it? Both options make you look rather stupid...having said that your last post did that quite efficiently.
Starting to throw insults because you don't actually know what your talking about?
I'm not defending EA, I'm just pointing out your obvious ignorance of the subject in hand. The fact that you don't understand why higher resolution textures can cause instability regardless of how clean your code is just goes to show how clueless you actually are.
The Very HIgh settings turn on DirectX 11 features, namely Shader Model 5.0, tesselation and texture compression. These aren't settings that Bioware just "forgot" to allow for your video card, they are disabled because your card is incapable of running DirectX 11. The option isn't missing, it is available for anyone whos hardware is actually capable of turning it on.
If they had put the textures on the disk then morons like you would install them without knowing why they were optional and then flame Bioware for releasing a game that crashes.
As for the "Very High" settings, they aren't missing, or unfinished, your machine just can't run them. Again, your anger stems from your own ignorance of the situation, it has nothing to do with Bioware or EAs.
And your ignorance has just proven Biowares point. The reason the very high textures aren't shipped with the original game is that they will cause memory allocation errors on the average users machine. They require more than a gig of video ram, installing them on anything less than that will cause crashes and choppy gameplay as the game tries to request more memory than the machine has available.
You aren't going to see differences in texture quality in a 720 frapsed and then compressed video. Trying to spot the differences in texture resolution in a low res, compressed image is like trying to spot colour differences in two black and white photos
These textures are designed for machines that are going to be running the game at double that resolution. Google some full resolution screenshots if you want to see the difference, because this video shows you nothing.
Why are you annoyed about a free texture pack?It undeniably improves the graphics and it costs nothing. If you dont think the increase is worth the performance or you cant run it then dont download it,otherwise do and enjoy it,but why get angry about it,it makes no sense?
Also you know you can filter the high res textures as well right? And AF doesnt just magically make textures higher resolution, this isnt CSI,it doesnt matter how much you sharpen a low res image...its still low res
I see a difference, the framerate goes to shit with the "High Res Texture Pack" and it doesn't really do a whole hell of a lot to improve the visuals, which are really quite average.
What a farce. The spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate is now no more than a brainless action game. I had such high hopes for this too after how good Origins is. Apparently Origins is where it started and where it should have ended.
@AndyFunny22 im not trolling..im telling the truth
with gts 250 1gb get above 50 fps cause i run the game in dx10mode and with my gts 450 1gb i get a solid 60 fps in dx11.
i play at 1080i resolution
im not taking about the demo cause i have the BioWare Signature Edition of the game which i preordered..
in the demo.. there are some bugs and glitches..may be thats why ur having problems..but believe me these glithes are fixed in final version of the game and you'll surely get better FPS..
Does the pc version offer multiple controll settings? I had tried the xbox 360 demo and the diamond controls for abilities and autoselection seemed alot more fluid than being a mouse clicking.
@MegaPrince123456789: yeah that is what I am hesitant on which to get. I have a gtx 480 and quadcore. But this game is slated as direct x 11.. and even the hi texture support looks very minimal being obvious in slight rock textures on ground. Nothing close to what Dead Space 2 or Battlefield 3 show with Direct X 11 .. It looks near a direct console port.
So being said. can you change the console scheme? The Witcher was funner playing with controller than kb/mouse.
@Paperclown man.. with a gtx 480 and a quad core you will surely get more than 60 fps...in pc you can change the resolution aa/af plus pc has dx11 support and hi resolution textures..i agree with you that other dx11 games have much better visuals than dragon age 2 but the pc version of da2 looks better than console version without any doubt...
i have a gts 450 and i am playing this game with kb/mouse without any problem..i get 50-60fps with v-sync enabled and it feels very smooth...
@Paperclown i would like to suggest you to play the pc demo of the game..
remember that the dx11 features in demo has some glitches..so maybe you'll get bad performance in demo...but all these glitches are fixed in final version..
@Paperclown The PC UI is built for a mouse and keyboard and console UI is built for a controller..so i don't think that you can play the pc version of the game with a controller..but believe me playing the game with kb/mouse is very fun and you'll have no problem with it.
Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2 felt better with a mouse and keyboard on the PC.
If you're going to have a video showing high-res textures vs normal then maybe you should actually have a high-def video to properly display the differences. The 720p version of this video isn't much better than the 360p and you can barely see *any* difference between the two.
@Drakenex you re like these rare dudes who lacked of nice words and just started swearing and being offensive.... some people said its hard to see the difference so i commented differently and you started bashing ,,,,,....
@bogellenong yup, you´ve indirectly replied by spitting up the first stupid idea that came out of your tiny brain, citing video´s title ... go figure why genius .... but yeah; I was a little harsh ;)
Textures are sharper with higher resolution textures? No shit!?
Truth is, if you've been able to spot any difference, congrats. Because it's certainly not noticeably and if you've gotta be squinting at it to tell, then it's plain and simple not worth the bother. Particularly not when it requires a 1gb vid card.
@Juliokip89 Of course it's hard to see a difference on a choppy, less than full resolution video. I just downloaded this and it makes a nice difference. It's a lot more than just blood.
