Trying to make as many different noises as you can on the guitar and then sporadically changing time signatures to the point of losing rhythm and fluidity does not constitute some kind of musical genius. Just one man's opinion.
@iHeartCoolStuff coming from a guitar instrumentalist, robert's technique is awe-inspiring. so some ears this song sounds quite chaotic but to mine its a barrage of sonic color and ballistic rhythm. i respect your opinion.
@iHeartCoolStuff yeah... you don't even realize how musical this piece is. Coming from a percussionist/flutist/arranger... this is phenomenally musical. To me it almost resembles the russians' beautiful and much more intricately developed than western music's melodical structure. This is quite gorgeous honestly. His technique as well. I can honestly say this probably took months to write so... i respect your opinion but it's pretty uneducated.
I've known this vid for a longtime, but it's been incredibly difficult to find it out another time, Youtube should put this in its homepage ! This piece reminds me of my childhood, very deeply, like things you found absurd when you were a kid : incomprehension is the right word. The consequence of it is you get attached to confirmed values, like teddybears or your parents, and all this comes out in this piece ! GREAAAT ! LOV YOU ROBRT !
I love how his style just throws all logic out the window and completely mind rapes you with obscure notes and time signatures. Then he goes on to rip your face off with incredible speed. All the while it looks like he's just chillin out.
Why does this have only 131,101 views? Robert Taylor is possibly the most underrated and under-watched guitarist in the CandyRat secret guitar supergenetics laboratory. I love your crazy shit, Robert Taylor!
sweet song my only thought otherwise is this guitar is too small to hold the deep tones of this tuning......but then again it adds something ineresting. id love to hear this guy on a clasical guitar.
He is playing a Stonebridge 23-CR, and when it comes to acoustic fingerstyle guitars, it really doesn't get much better. I played one at the local music store for about 4 hours straight and there is nothing that quite sounds as good. I am guessing the problem is the mic, since yes it is missing a bit of low range.
I'm pretty sure it's the guitar that Andrew White built to RT's spec's. It's hard to see the fanned frets due to lighting and angle, but the offset bridge is pretty clear.
At that high a level of the luthier's art, any differences are pretty much due a person's taste, because the quality is there. I have a Gurian, which I find to be rich and warm in tone, but gives up a little on the high end......but it's probably my poor technique.
Actually, I only lack 3 things - talent, ability and skill.
I recently bought a D23CR for 23000 Czech koruna (1100 dollars) in Praha, and in Brno you can find them for less than 1000 dollars. Stonebridge guitars are incredible and aren't expensive at all.
It's either a bad mic, or this guitar is heavily eq'ed for the high end. Listen, and you'll hear a lot of high end harmonics, but the low end is almost not there. The mid-range is even being out-twanged. I would dearly love to hear this guitarist play a Martin D28 or any guitar that is balanced better. He's got a lot of good stuff in there that's getting twanged out.
I'm surprised to hear Martin and balanced in the same sentence lol. I love'em, but they usually sound like the reverse of this particular guitar; really heavy and powerful low-end with comparatively thin trebles.
I first found gorthon about a year ago. It is still, for me, the perfect mix of technique and soul. This should be pushed a little harder thru youtube. everyone should be allowed, no made, to hear it. much love. Newton faulkner has asked the community for a acoustic showdown. search it. kick his ass lol

Some people don't have the ability or time to devote to learning these songs by ear, that is why tab's are very helpful. I hope Candyrat decides to sell this tab because I will be the first one in line to buy it.
Maybe that is because they all use acoustic guitars? If you knew music at all, you would notice that the Candyrat artists are a world apart in terms of sound. If you want to really hear music that all sounds the same, just turn on the radio and listen to the biggest alternative/pop/rap/metal hits.
he is looking great, his technique is good and together...it sounds awesome.... I tried to play it, it isn´t that hard as it looks (of course only if you are playing the guitar for 10 years:))
Wow its amazing how some people post dumb comments hoping that people will believe it so they can have a laugh. Robert is really 76 years old, and although he does sleep with a copy of his tabs under his pillow, he keeps the original copies in a hollowed out encyclopedia at the Boston Public Library, which is guarded by a 3 fingered man named Chris.
I'm going to buy your albumb. As i Buy the Andy McKee's Art Of Motion and Craig d' andrea's Crazy is catching... I love the fantastic sound of the great acoustic guitar players.. Incredible technique and emotion..

u cant be serious.......i respect your opinion, if you dont like it, ah well.....
but this is definitely not 'trying to make as many noises as possible...changing time signatures'.......
I know this song very well, and
If u want, I could show you the entire song structure, and how this is all 'straighforward' scale stuff.
Playing 6/8 throughout (with some filler measures here and there) in the key of Cm (with exception of the very last chord CMaj7 :D).

@jazzmatik Pretty much all these candyrat guys use the same mic scheme.
1 mic inside the body of the guitar
1 magnetic pickup (visible)
1 mic outside (visible)
Then they blend it to their liking.

it's mic'd poorly, you don't hear the range of the guitar.
that's a very expensive guitar he's using - somewhere in the range of $3,000+.
G0D666 3 years ago
You wont get accurate full sounds from a video. Dont assume...
ThomasAWilliam 3 years ago
I think it's mostly a mic thing, though really it is a good mic. NT1 I believe.
Also remember alot of the other candy rat artists have internal pickups aswell, with mics. I see no evidence that he has internal pickups...

So. He has two guitars that are identical, except one has fanned frets and one doesn't. Yeah, that's probably it.

The easiest way to determine whether its a fanned fret or not is to LOOK AT THE FRETS!
They are clearly NOT fanned. If you want to see Robert play a fanned fret, watch his Full Of Riley Beans video.
