  • LOVE it.

  • Beautiful....I am so happy they got back together.

  • Beautiful man.

  • @Maayerman Commas are highly overrated, man.

  • There's probably nothing wrong with the guitar other than it's been hanging on the wall for 2 years with the same shitty old strings on it and they didn't bother to replace them. Either that or the strings are brand new and some tool in the store didn't take the time to stretch them properly before they handed the guitar to him. Tune all you want, it'll never hold.

  • If I could give 10 strs I would

  • Timeless.

  • I think Gordie should have brought his own Gibson instead of that cheezy Long and McQuade piece of junk.

  • @bryanlawrenceg Dude thats a j-45. It's like a 3 thousand dollar guitar. What are you playing that makes that a piece of junk?

  • gitboxjammer You know nothing about Gordie or Big Sugar if you ask this question. Do some research and you find your answer.

  • this song is powerful noise for anyone who's come west looking for work. I heard this for the first time today on the job. stopped me dead, sent my mind miles.

  • @cptfancypants they must just play this song in alberta because i never hear it in any other part of canada, and im from calgary.

  • I was at this performance, and the whole thing RULED!

  • he's a descent singer and a guitarist but i don't see anything that is that impressive, why is he giving guitar clinics?

  • @cirvis1000 he did co-write it, although a lot of people aren't aware of the quote that it stems from :-)

  • @cirvis1000

Haha! Cherry205 is a psycho because she/he knows what they're talking about?

  • Love this song, but it makes me sad for some reason.

  • This is a WICKED performance

  • @cirvis1000 Haha, can't say I'm psycho. Just a music fan and I've met the guy is all! It's a great song :) I hope you enjoy it too despite your misinformation. Cheers :)

  • @cirvis1000 The song was written by Gordie Johnson and Patrick Ballantyne. That guy in the video? Gordie Johnson. He most certainly did write that!

  • GJ, You are my reminder of a lost friend. I enjoyed meeting you, but your voice is what carries me.

  • Hey epsitte, check out his Hit and Run album. It's a greatest hits that'll get you started.

I was lucky enough to see these guys live on several occasions (including Woodstock 99) and they rocked the house every time they played live!!

  • Or where to find a tab for this (this acoustic version I mean) :)

  • @batcat247 i posted a vid with a basic tab chords cover.

  • Does anyone know what his guitar is tuned to?

  • it's in open G, capo on 3rd

  • Thanks lawrencepm

  • @lawrencepm nice, thanks mang

  • @batcat247 it's tuned in open G. Capo on the third fret. Look at a few other videos online where you can see his hands - it's pretty simple to figure out. Have fun!

  • i herd this song on the grand prarie radio today and im in love :) with the song...

  • the maritimers lament

  • Hey episette, if you haven't found anything else, search for Big Sugar or Grady

  • I lost my way in Calgary, then the clouds opened up and the mountains were right there. Big Sugar was in the player.

  • music is magic

  • @badcanadian I know, Calgary sure is hard to find, especially since its on the trans Canada highway, its a sneaky one for sure.

  • @assology101 Read into it, dick.

  • @badcanadian is assology being a clown? i will troll him from my troll accounts.

  • @badcanadian I hear ya dude.

  • @badcanadian I lost it once too in Calgary. The clouds opened up and the mountains were right there. Big Sugar was in the player... I went through the mountains and ended up in Vancouver. Never been back.

  • Ive loving this song lately but Ive never heard of it anyplace else but Youtube. This is a very cool song and I was wondering if he has other songs/CDs that I should listen to. I live in northern Ohio and listen to stations from London Ontario occasionally but Ive never heard of Gordie Johnson.

    Thanks

  • Oh man...this is the man behind one of the best rock bands you've barely heard.

Look up Big Sugar. "Grady" is the newest project and it's a sledgehammer. I like the former more than the latter but they're both so good. Gordy Johnson is the real damn thing when there are so few.

  • A friend from Alberta recommended a few Big Sugar songs but they seemed too slick and pop'ish instead of the gritty grinding guitar and strong lyrics of All Hell for a Basement. I'll search for a few Grady songs. I love Sass Jordan's Rats, and Racine and traveled 300 miles to see her [perform in Hamilton and London in the past.

  • hear hear brother.. i just met gordie a few hours ago. i grew up in the same town as him. Grady's new tunes really pound... so good. Literally made me shout uncontrollably... and I'm usually the quiet observer at a live show... I just couldn't help myself.

  • One day.....maybe one day this great band will reunite and make more great music.

    Big Sugar......hell ya.

  • This is it for Big Sugar footage - really!?

  • Big Sugar was great, too bad. IIII have Looost my waaaay. buuuut Im here to tell!!

  • Uh, the lyric goes "I have lost my way, but I hear tell, about a heaven in Alberta, where they've got all hell for a basement"

  • This lyric is from the author Rudyard Kipling when he visited Medicine Hat Alberta, and he said "It seems that Alberta has all hell for a basement" regarding the fact that southern Alberta (Medicine Hat area) is extremely rich in natural gas. Gordie is from Medicine Hat.

  • if anyone knows how hes playing this version can ya let me know. im not that good to figure it out on my own. i know its open g tuning but again i can get it myself and i need help!@

  • Love how u transposed it to acoustic. Nice work.

  • Big Sugar is one of my favorite bands. What a sound!

  • i live in washington really close to the border of canada just outside of bellingham the first time i heard this song was when i went over the border to whistler to snowbord back in the 90s and fell in love with this song. big sugar rocks!!!!!! and i wish i could off seen them in concert. its ashame the band is no longer togeatger because gordy in grady isnt just cuting it for me

  • aww man they played Vancouver so many times. Big marshall sound shaking your bones. sorry you missed them.

  • Dear God, this band is god, my brother went to a Grady concert recently, still as awesome as always. Thanks alot for the post.

  • I love this song.

  • thanks sooo much for posting this.

  • I have always loved this song; but I couldn't believe how good it was live and acoustic when I heard him do it at the Harvest Jazz & Blues Festival in Fredericton a few years ago.

  • Chilling.

What a loss to the Canadian music industry having Big Sugar disband and head south.

  • Wow, this song nails it hard. I've been in the oilsands working as an electrician for over a decade, and many many times on the road coming home from ft mac, the thoughts that are going thru my head are relayed here perfect....thanks a million for the post, and to all the men and women like me who have to make a living far away from our loved ones, hang in there, and take care on the "highway of death" u know what i mean......

  • awesome song

  • Gordie! Gordie! Gordie!...what ever happend to the BIG SUGAR coolness?...stellar songwriter, though! *smiles*

  • someone please tab this

  • This is everything thats good about Alberta, if ever there was an anthem for those of us working in oil and gas, this is it. Its a feeling you can't describe, but this comes closer than anything.....shiver down my spine and goosebumps.

  • This is absolutely stunning.

  • This song took me Alberta were I lived in edmonton for awhile. Now that I am Back in Ontario I am takin back hearing this song. I love the fact it's in acustic. It gives such a raw feeling. Thanks Gordie can't wait till you hit kingston again.

  • Nevermind, I figured it out.

  • Someone who is good, could you please tab this. Its in open g...
