I hate how god damn australians and ruining you tube by disgracing North American Harness racing because there jelous that we have the BEST pacers in world. I seen one asswhole on here who said Auckland Reactor was better then Somebeachsomewhere
@BigBrown2332 Are you serious? Or are you being sarcastic? If you're American then it's unlikely you would be being sarcastic (an attribute I actually admire). but this guy should be shot for what he does to race commentating. Diabolical.
@bgardiner2000 You think he should be shot for calling a race with enthusiasm? Wow, I can't believe I just read that, he called a great race, it's not like he was yelling racist comments, he was calling the race with pride, and I'm Canadian, and I respect America. That might be the rudest, dumbest comment i've read.
@bgardiner2000 I just want to know you said he should be shot for calling a race, and criticizing the way he raced. Tell me one thing that is wrong with calling a race, and making the people jump to there feet. I honestly don't see a thing wrong with it. And tell me this, why do they have him calling the biggest race in harness racing, and calling other huge harness races around the country?
@BigBrown2332 If you've never heard a truly good race-caller then you won't have a good point of reference. Try putting that race on sound only & seeing if you imagine what is happening. Try the same with a GOOD commentator &you might start to understand where I am coming from. Let me steer you in the right direction. Search 2010 Miracle Mile - Menangle Park, close your eyes & listen to the call. It's not about being or not being excited, it's about conveying good information to the listener.
@BigBrown2332 I don't mean to sound too negative. American pacing in general has grown extremely boring and predictable. Which is a shame because the best standard breds in the world (over a mile anyway) are from the states. There is very little entertainment value for me. Compared to racing in ANZ it is second-rate in terms of entertainment value. This is obviously just my opinion. If ANZ racing was like it is in the states I would not follow it.
How good was Life Sign? Riyadh is probably one of the top 10 best standardbreds in history...LS was parked for atleast 3/4 of a mile maybe longer....And he dug in to out finish Riyadh cmon...Riyadh had it pretty easy it wasn't a blistering pace...In a fairness Morril shoulda ran off in stretch......But i guess he was out classed...
Not only was he parked outside for most of the race, but he broke stride early and had to drop back to 4th. What a great kick at the end after losing that much ground early and running further than everyone else.
Yes, both of these were held on the same day. (The first heat is divided into eliminations where the top 3 or 4 finishers advance to the second heat. If an elimination heat winner does not win the second heat, then all the heat winners would have to return and race a third time that same day, That would be the ultimate test of stamina.
@all4pharlap not to mention the hand up rule and the fact that they don't race beyond a mile. I have studied a lot of American pacing as I'm involved in breeding standardbreds. If I'm honest, I do it because I love harness racing. But US pacing is soooo boring. If we ended up racing the same in ANZ I would give it away and go back to the gallops.
@bgardiner2000 I don't see how watching life sign enduring pretty much the whole mile parked, than in the stretch pulling by to win. In his elim. campbell used him 3 times and pulled away to win. Quite exciting if you ask me.
the Little Brown Jug is always on the 3rd Thursday after the first Monday in September. It is the Premiere race for 3 yr old pacing colts on a half mile track held in Delaware Ohio. Attendance is usually around 60,000. Weeklong Party.
Gene Riegle, who trained Life Sign for those of you who didnt know that, is my grandfather and I can honestly say that Jug Day 1993 was one of the proudest days in our families history. Its the one race he always wanted to win and finally got it. Thank you for posting this video!!
It was a actually a horrendous drive by Campbell which he admitted after the race. He tried to leave around Riyadh and that wound up costing him dearly...the horse won despite Campbell's poor judgement on this day.
I dont think cambell drove forendous at all! actually i think morrill got played , cambell took a shot and made a quik judgement "not gonna happen yet" in overtaking rhyad. Jim morrill got complacent because he had no other come first over and thought life sign was probably out of it , and waited for pres ball to flush out which he did not do. cambell was smiling when he cut life sign a break at the half in 56? what 29 breather! r u kidding in the jug... morrill was out driven by the man...
I understand that but was saying that he has produce some of the greatest offspring.....like the old saying the apple doesnt fall too far from the tree.
I may have been mistaken. It was for sure the first four horse race off in Jug history. The fact that it was the great Western Hanover who Fake Left defeated that day to deny him the triple crown is also cause to rank the '93 Jug right up there with the best.
I had Riyadh
