is this mix mono compatible too? The stereo sounds very nice, but I can't tell if your just delaying one of the channels or not, what exactly are you doing to get that nice stereo field?
@jditmer0 To be honest, I don't know if this mix is mono compatible since it was more like a rough mix. The mix on our website however should be mono compatible. To get a great stereo try to not put delays or stereo enhancers on every track cause this leads to phasing problems. However for a great natural stereo wideness you would need some short delays, reverberation, or even stereo enhancers but always watch your correlation meter in the stereo sum. In this song also the kick helped a lot.
@YummyBeatsClips yes i am aware that delaying one of the channels induces phase issues, thats why i asked you whatchya did ; ). That piano must have been recorded in stereo cuz it sounds too natural to create such a dry sounding stereo field like that from a mono sample. That kick is indeed a champion, so are the claps. I'm guessing it took you a great deal of layering to get it..especially for the clap
ran low on words. Are are the layers for the kick panned strait in the center with only short early reflections creating the stereo field then? I'm shocked to hear early reflections on a kick as I don't believe it's a common thing to do, but it indeed sounds very good. Do you know of a way to cycle between different wave files on your hard drive while a specific pattern you've created with beat designer is triggering them to play in real time within your mix? Thanks for the help!
@KingBrown101 you mean the "Free Instruments 1"? That's odd, I just checked it and it seems to work. (However the free instruments are for our previous video tutorial)
But if it still doesn't work contact us via yummybeats. I can send you another link then.
@remusjacobs First, the most important tools are your ears. No plugin can replace them. Considering plugins: it always depends on the song. Also the plugins I use don't have to work for you as well. So you should always set up your own pallet. Great plugins e.g. are Bomb Factory, UA, Waves, Cubase plugins, Logic plugins, TK Multimedia and many more. Also look out for unknown developers. Unknown doesn't have to mean that they are bad. In fact, it's mostly quite the opposite.
Quick question. How do you use multiple instruments in a vst but only opening one vst ? like example hypersonic is a workstation vst. I only want one open but I want to use multiple instruments out of it
Okay please tell me how to make those synth sounds and/or where I can get anything similar sounding from!? Those sounds are in the final beat but not in your demo which is the part I was waiting forr :(
@Luvaboi92 hmm, I don't know exactly which synth sounds you mean? Because the Bass is the only synth used in this song. However the bass is also included in the "Hip Hop Instruments 1" sample library . You might have to put it more to the front during the mix and change some EQ settings.
BTW: also all other instruments within the final beat are the same as used in the tutorial and included in the "Hip Hop Instruments 1". They have just been mixed a little.
@marcooni03 In this video I think it was 5.0 (the first version). However currently it's version 5.5.1 (you always get the latest updates for free at steinberg [dot] de)
@MI62000 To make serious music or music productions you'll need at least a small external controller or master keyboard. The cheapest ones cost around 20 to 40 $
However you can also use your computer keys but this is no real solution (no velocity, no aftertouch, bad feeling while playing, wrong fingering etc)
Does this program have a step sequencer? I heard this program is good for sequencing. Like you did the drums in a midi setting is there a 16 step sequencer included that could do the exact same thing (I just prefer it I'm not trying to argue with some MIDI fanboy)
Yes, I can't complain about the sequencer. I think Cubase even was the first MIDI sequencer software on the marked (so they should have lot's of experience). Today it's a complete DAW with a still strong sequencer part with all creative liberties (like cool post editing options or midi insert fx and a midi channel strip, etc).
Anyway, there's nothing "stolen". Different harmonics, different melodies, own instruments. Just the style was tried to be adopted but this is the purpose of this tutorial.
But thx that you thought this was an exact copy of apologize. In this case I would say "mission accomplished" ;-)
@ProclaimerProduction It does sound like Apologize. Then again almost every producer out there is using the same chord sequences in their songs. I have heard about 4 songs from 4 different singers that actually sound the same etc..unbelievable
@deathglow Haha, great video, but to me a song is more than just chords. Above all what makes a song really interesting is the sounding itself (instruments), the interaction (arrangement) and how the chords are built and how they harmonize again with the instruments. Or in other words I think all nice sounding harmonies are already taken in some song but music still isn't getting boring at all.
nice song man!hardest part for me making a beat is to make a good bassline...everything else is going smooth...i dont why that is...do you have any peoblems while you making beats?
Yes, always there are some "tricky" parts in a song which can take hours till I am satisfied. But its never a particular instrument. It always depends on the song. At most I personally spend the most time into the drums and the whole sound design.
Maybe also do it like me and try to find the right sound before you start recording, maybe it helps you to get a groove or feeling and the bass line /recording just flows from itself.
great vid ...........I just have question I have been using fl studio for a while now and I was interested in buying cubase my problem is that with fruity when you have a idea its very easy to put it down which is great for those fast inspiration moments is cubase fast or does it take time to load diffrent vst and ect.....?
trhx. Cubase is very very intuitive with a fast workflow. Of course you have to invest some time when you are first working with cubase cause it's different.
Most innovative thing in cubase 4 & 5 is the MediaBay which lets you find your preset files, instruments, samples etc via tags like an mp3s browser. You can tag almost everything. To learn more about working with the media bay, just download our pdf guide at our free-stuff area. Of course there are much more things to tell about cubase.
Noting special. I just replayed songs after ear. A friend taught me the basic techniques (fingering etc). Later on I used chord sheets to learn some harmonics & chords.
But nowadays you can also learn it with the help of youtube.
I think that's just a point of view. But you are right in this song the drums are recorded in half of the tempo. So you can also use 61,5 BPM. I always use the "felt tempo" so this would rather be 123 BPM instead of 61,5 BPM cause the felt tempo is also influenced by the other instruments which play faster than the drums. Furthermore I often want the metronome to be fast when making slow songs and I don't really like to set up an 8/8 measure or don't want to always change my metronome settings.

@PdubzCrew
- Just hit F11 and load your instrument into an empty slot.
- Create a new midi track set the midi channel to 1 and connect the midi track to your instrument.
- Again create a new midi track set the midi channel to 2 and connect the midi track to your instrument
...and so on

alt + drag&drop
for copying a whole channel strip just select a channel in the mixer and copy -> slect another channel and paste.
