It' seems to me that HMOs in the USA are playing God! I seen Michael Moore video and I believe what he reports is true! If you need major surgery and pay in to a HMO and they decline you your life, That's playing God!! Who should or should not live based on Profit Margins. HMO and Doctors who take kick backs because they save the HMOs money should go to jail!!!! All people deserve Good health Care and never be turned away by a Hospital . Go Michael Moore!
The corrupt American version of healthcare (couldn't care less 'care.') system is being forced on the British people by American Corporations. The privatisation of all public services, in all of the countries which American Corporations can get their slimy claws into are being sold off cheap to the New World Order. This is why it won't be long before the grass roots will rise up and wash the Old (NWO) world away for good.
Best to learn the Gerson Therapy, and avoid eating supermarket poison. X
One of America's greatest traitors, EVER. Nixon, the filth of your stench continues to this very day and has helped put this country in it's current situation.
HMO`s KILL PEOPLE!! Another friend DIED last week, at age 46 from privatized ins. neglect, corruption & greed! Dr.`s kept blowing him off until the tumor was MRI`ed, FINALLY after 1 whole year. It was cancer; TOO LATE NOW! As for me, I am going crippled the past 7 years due to them NOT spending "MY" $700/month I pay them to test and treat me for spinal/joint problems that are progressing. DOCTORS get bonus` for NOT giving you MRI`s, CT scans, great lab tests, etc. The doctors are just as corrupt!
Michael Moore is an annoying douchebag with average intelligence. As soon as I heard his voice, it became difficult for me to take any of this seriously.
I'm sick of all the slandering of Nixon. He ended the war in Vietnam. He shrunk the size of the federal government. He was the most honest politician in the last sixty years. And yet.
All anyone knows of Nixon is what they've been trained to think. A farcical caricature from cartoons, movies. Go read about how the impeachment was a political maneuver by his senatorial opponents who wanted to increase government spending before you think you know anything about Nixon.
@edwardstrinden DAMN. You made gooood points. I appreciate reading good information from conservatives. These days it's only a yellfest with both sides no understanding one another. We need more people like you who actually read in depth and not just about the landmark things you see in the obvious. He actually created food stamps. Few people know that. I think you're right. Well, what is not discussed here is the plan Nixon would propose in 1974. And as for Nixon blinking which obviously MUST prove that he's lying, since people on these boards are clearly behavioral experts, Nixon always blinked rapidly. Plenty of other video to confirm this.
Michael Moore has a history of cherry-picking to bolster his arguments, but I guess no one will mention that part. I'd actually like to hear the whole conversation or see the transcript. Context is important.
What Moore leaves out, which mars his credibility, is that Nixon dropped his administration's HMO plans after pressure from doctors and other groups.
So how did we get HMOs anyway?
Edward Kennedy (Democrat) then wrote his own HMO bill, called the HMO Act of 1973. He touted it as real progress to help all those uninsured Americans. The bill was passed Dec 1973.
Fuck you Nixon! I am glad you are dead. It is why our system is broken. Because a crooked politician like you let these crooks do immoral acts to us hard-working people.
people in America used to starve to death. when i was a kid - the nation was in an up roar because a young woman and her baby died on the hospital steps. the baby was breach - the mom uninsured. less than 10 feet away, watching through glass doors, doctors and nurses.
I think that it shuld be mandatory for ALL congress people and senators WATCH the entire movie of Sicko over their August recess and fix the problem when they get back. If we don't hold them accountable to rid our nation of this fascist corporatocracy that's hijacked our government (i.e. insurance companies, the AMA, DOE, banks, the federal reserve, et al), then we can kiss our country good bye.
Lots of things in life are good in moderation, but bad when out of control. Like booze, a few drinks once in a while can make for a fun night... Too much and you lose control. Profiteering is one such thing, especially when it comes to medicine! This proves it - because in this case they deliberately set out to provide less care for more money, and they come right out and say so! Doesn't get much more villainous than that.
Actually, you're wrong. Jonas Salk who created to Polio vaccine said the people own the patent on this vaccine.' I'm pretty sure Alexander Fleming did not patent penicillin either.
Our constitution guarantees the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Part of the latter is not sitting around dying of cancer while the medical company continues to deny you treatment.
AND America has the advantage to look at Europe and take the good parts of a NHS and cut the bad.
So, its constitutional to steal from the healthy to pay for the unhealthy is it? I used to look up to America as a bastion of freedom, now I realise how much socialism has ruined your country.
That's funny, you're resorting the argument people with IQ's of 40 have been using for 30 years.
Socialism, is defined by the Government being the sole manufacturer and producer of the entire country, if you think America will Socialize, you obviously don't know our operations very well.
I was born in Spain, I have national health insurance. And I love it. I have never had to wait more than a week for treatment of any type. Once I moved here and became naturalized I got an HMO, it was awful.
I live in England, I've been quoted waiting times of several weeks.
Indeed, socialism is defined as the state having control of the means of production and distribution, however we live in a mixed economy, where there is elements of state control and elements of corporate control.
I believe the state's role is to protect citizens from unjust aggression and to punish those who break the law (i.e a minarchist state).

Now think about if you had to pay for police protection, if you didn't pay you could not call the police, EMT's or Firemen. I think your point is invalid, we would be worse off without these.
NO, not everything should be socialized. The Government has no place in the home and many other affairs but health is a right to life.
Wow, that's horrible. Not only is it extremely selfish, it's also eugenics.
Eugenics is the killing of believed 'inferior' people for the good of the cause. Like someone with mental disabilities, or some one who is ill.
If you don't agree with me that that's basically what you just said, let me sum that statement up.
"I believe that Firemen should only save someone's house and life if they can pay for insurance. Therefore, I'm for imperiling and potentially killing all poor people
I'm sorry but I've read your little spat and he's right what you are advocating is basically eugenics.

but you know what? Fuck that shit, back to the original topic, are you honestly saying that insurance companies don't screw people over as much as they want? Are you honestly saying our health care system is fine?
@theporksicle the people that are in health care to make a profit (pharmaceutical companies) never develop better cures they never develop any cures at all. They might develop slightly better treatments but never cures because it is way more profitable to have a person be medicated for the rest of his life then cure the actual disease and that's the truth.
Shut up you fraud American! Anyone can lie about where they're from so eat it! I could say in my profile that I'm from Cambodia; how the fuck would you know I'm lying!?
I'm calling bullshit on where you claim you're from. If 96% of Brits are happy with their health care than I think shit, that's some good health care and we should have it here. Don't try to convince me otherwise 'cause you can't but I know you're really a conserative American posing as a Brit. Screw off! Health care for all Americans is a right just as it is in the UK and other parts of Europe!
jfkjrlover ... we Canadians DID have an excellent health care system ... our system is dwindling down as well. We have more and more taken away from us each year.
Humans should fight their nature and not think of what's in it for themselves, how about that? How about realizing the individual is smaller and less significant than dust in the wind and realizing what matters is humanity as a whole!? Think not just of your happiness, but that of your brothers and sisters. I would gladly have more withheld from my paycheck if it meant all of us would benefit.
I don't mean to be harsh.. but you're an idiot if you think that a bloated inefficient ineffective government bureaucracy can deliver charity to your brothers & sisters you care about so dearly
You are simply mortgaging your altruism to the State
That's the worst thing you could do with your hard earned money
Once government is in the business of distributing charity.. it becomes politically abused. Look at all those Democrat-run welfare slums. Is that what you call the 'greater good'?
actually your an idiot if you ignore all of the studies done by the World Health Organization. Jackass. Research your facts before you come up with an opinion. Don't insult other people who know what they're talking about...
That's probably because your rich and have nothing to worry about...your user name gives it all away...Government needs to impinge upon and control Health Care, look how things have been since this HMO has come into place, do you not see the epidemic going on in America, if government does intervene what do we honestly have to lose? I can't see why you wouldn't want everyone to have Universal health Care? I'm confused?
Because, we want less government intervention and not more. Government has now got it's hands in the auto biz, bank biz and now they want to handle medical biz? Every time government is involved you have lines i.e. US Postal Office, DMV, when government added HMO;s is when medical insurance profit went up and service went down. We need to take the money out of Washington then all those lobbyist vultures will stop hovering. Read what our founders wrote about gov.
Man, are u stupid or something? the goverment has his hand on the car industry and the bank industry because they abused the free market and crashed the economy, this becasue there was nobody there to inforce a regulation. Banks kept borrowing money at high interest to people who could not pay it back in order to maximize profit
explain that to my son who is now disabled, almost died at the ripe old age of 13 (in 1991) because blue cross continually denied services for medical treatment. They didn't have a problem taking my premiums for years. I guess our "arrogance" in expecting health care for our premium $ gets in the way of the insurance industry "human progress" of greed and profit.
Don't judge those of us who have suffered loss of loved one's due to greed and profit motivation of the Ins. Co.
for your info, there are not an "army of lawyers" do you think I have not tried all avenues since my son was diagnosed in 1991? The Insurance Co. help to write most of the laws regulating their industry. "Reviewing" and "Redflaging" are two things I'm quite familiar with and they use them often. The problem with that is the delay in medical treatment while they use those legal tools to deny claims. In the early 90's Ca enacted some tough laws to counter these but it still gave them 30 days.
30 days can mean the difference between life, death and disability. But what the heck they are still within the law.
Please I have spent over 15 years reading Ins. policies and fighting with them. You are aware that they push or cancel most long term or catastrophic illnesses onto the public systems? Leaving mostly healthy on their rolls and more profit for the company, shifting the burden to the taxpayers. If you look at the history of insurance that is not how it was first set up.
may I suggest you read a book called "Fighting the Blues", It opened my eyes on how difficult it was to fight them, but I did fight them and it took time away from my ill child and other children when they needed me most. No one should be put in that position, that is why most give up the fight and end up on medi-cal, after they have lost everything, savings, homes, jobs, marriages and sometimes their ill loved one. I lived it, may I suggest you get a little more info before you judge.
and may I add, don't give advice regarding "army of lawyers" before you actually have researched the laws in regards to the Insurance Industry. Lawsuits are few, expensive and difficult.
Once again the Insurance Industry help to create the laws that protect them should they make a "mistake".
I lived not far from this Attorney, his book and office helped me a lot. If you are willing to educate yourself please read about him.
LOS ANGELES - William M. Shernoff believes he is close. The 71-year-old Claremont attorney has led a high-profile legal barrage against health insurance plans accused of unlawfully cutting off coverage once members become sick. He's won multi-million dollar settlements, he's won praise, but he is yet to win a "guilty" verdict. "That is the goal,"
What!? Taking the profit motive out of health care would be a crime against humanity!? It should be about helping people, not making money! The problem with America is that money means more than human life! You should be ashamed for being so greedy. The love of money is disgusting.
They took the profit motive out of Public Education - look how well that worked out for society
There's a 50% dropout rate in major Democrat-run cities across the country. We spend among the most per pupil, yet rank among the lowest of industrialized nations. All of this because we had government monopolize the education industry
The same thing happened w/ the USPS, Fannie & Freddie and Medicare & Medicaid, which have tens of trillions in unfunded liabilities. Unsustainable, capiche?
except that every statement youve made is unambiguously incorrect.
The United States has inferior coverage at a higher cost than Canada and Great Britain. So... if the free market CAN "deliver higher quality at lower cost than any government run system" please explain why IT HASNT.
The horrible takeaway from your assertion is that it must be "by choice".
No one dies or goes bankrupt for lack of an iPhone.
I'll concede that im arrogant, you make it difficult to resist.
say what u will about the american healthcare system, but when my uncle cut his fingers (by accident)because he worked with wood, the doctors put his fingers back, fast! you don't get that service in socialized countries because they have to wait in lines for "free" healthcare, only its not free, it comes out of every taxpayer's pocket. this video proves in and of itself, HMOS are a product of a mixed market. the free market doesn't own healthcare, its mixed in with HOMOs, MediCrap, MediGayd,&SS
Actually, you have to wait in line here just as much if not more. If you had ever been to a doctor's office, dentist's office, hospital... Aw who am I kidding? You already know this shit. Facts are irrelevant to you. The whole point of this is trying to skip the middleman, and you're basically blaming the middleman on the people who're trying to get rid of it.
Shame on your selfishness that should be replaced with the desire to have higher taxes so others in your country can see a doctor without paying anything up front like they do in Europe.
What? And waste money on an unsustainable bloated bureaucracy which stifles economic growth as it has done in Europe during the entire post war period?
I think not. The future wants us to develop sustainable systems. Government-run Health Care corporations are unsustainable. Even JFK Jr. understood this.
You are sooo ignorant of the facts, why do you think anyone with half a brain and enough money goes to America for treatment?? We have private hospitals but they are nowhere near as good as some of those in the US.
Besides, why should someone whose healthy have to pay for the healthcare of someone else? Its not their business.
Another one of Nixon's worst move as a president, next to Watergate, and removing gold standard from US dollar. We should never let anyone like him be the president! EVER!
First thing I noticed...as he finished his statement on 18.Feb about wanting to give Americans the best healthcare, his eyes were blinking like crazy.
There is a difference between bad government policy and good. This president is a war criminal and should be impeached. Does that mean we throw away all government?
I assume you have no problem with a government run military, police force, firefighting system.
Our country spends more on health care per person than any other country, yet we have one of the worst systems out of all the developed countries. 40-50 million uninsured.
Very important moment in history, not just because it shows Nixon lying (nothing unusual about that) but shows blatant aim of "managed care" providers to profit at expense of public's health and US Administration's complicity in this.
Exactly. The very next day Nixon is out there touting this scam and how it's going to be a great benefit to the American people, yet on the 17th you hear clearly that it is just a money making scheme for the providers who make money by denying care.
It' seems to me that HMOs in the USA are playing God! I seen Michael Moore video and I believe what he reports is true! If you need major surgery and pay in to a HMO and they decline you your life, That's playing God!! Who should or should not live based on Profit Margins. I don't see the problem, without people making profit there would be no incentive to develop better cures.
Why develop a cure when you aren't even going to make money out of it?
Also, I live in Britain and can testify that socialised medicine is a very bad system indeed.
As for Michael Moore's documentary Sicko its obvious its biased in favour of less freedom and government intervention.

@theporksicle the people that are in health care to make a profit (pharmaceutical companies) never develop better cures they never develop any cures at all. They might develop slightly better treatments but never cures because it is way more profitable to have a person be medicated for the rest of his life then cure the actual disease and that's the truth.
chrishu76 2 years ago
Not necessarily, if you could charge a few hundred thousand dollars for a cure it would be better than staggered treatment over a lifetime.
theporksicle 2 years ago
A few hundred thousand for a cure nice pricing let me guess you work for a pharmaceutical company.
chrishu76 2 years ago
Shut up you fraud American! Anyone can lie about where they're from so eat it! I could say in my profile that I'm from Cambodia; how the fuck would you know I'm lying!?
jfkjrlover 2 years ago
'Fraud American'? WTF, I never claimed to be American, I'm English.
And why would you want to claim to be from Cambodia?
theporksicle 2 years ago
I'm calling bullshit on where you claim you're from. If 96% of Brits are happy with their health care than I think shit, that's some good health care and we should have it here. Don't try to convince me otherwise 'cause you can't but I know you're really a conserative American posing as a Brit. Screw off! Health care for all Americans is a right just as it is in the UK and other parts of Europe!
jfkjrlover 2 years ago
I'm English, prove you're an American. It is a right, but its also people's right not to pay for your healthcare.
A right is not the same as an entitlement, I have a right to a house but the government doesn't have to buy me one, see what I mean??
theporksicle 2 years ago
jfkjrlover ... we Canadians DID have an excellent health care system ... our system is dwindling down as well. We have more and more taken away from us each year.

Why would humanity NOT want the incentives to run the right way?
Do budding leftists and post-leftists even understand what they're saying here?
The profit motive is good! It has built the world around you, including the network and screen on which you're viewing this message.
Don't distort the profit motive to assuage your false altruism.
hegemonymony 2 years ago
Humans should fight their nature and not think of what's in it for themselves, how about that? How about realizing the individual is smaller and less significant than dust in the wind and realizing what matters is humanity as a whole!? Think not just of your happiness, but that of your brothers and sisters. I would gladly have more withheld from my paycheck if it meant all of us would benefit.
jfkjrlover 2 years ago
Well you can withold your fucking pay but don't expect others to do the same.
When people go to work its so they can eat and buy nice things, not for some other person's benefit.
theporksicle 2 years ago
I don't mean to be harsh.. but you're an idiot if you think that a bloated inefficient ineffective government bureaucracy can deliver charity to your brothers & sisters you care about so dearly
You are simply mortgaging your altruism to the State
That's the worst thing you could do with your hard earned money
Once government is in the business of distributing charity.. it becomes politically abused. Look at all those Democrat-run welfare slums. Is that what you call the 'greater good'?
hegemonymony 2 years ago
actually your an idiot if you ignore all of the studies done by the World Health Organization. Jackass. Research your facts before you come up with an opinion. Don't insult other people who know what they're talking about...
bsbeaver 2 years ago
That's probably because your rich and have nothing to worry about...your user name gives it all away...Government needs to impinge upon and control Health Care, look how things have been since this HMO has come into place, do you not see the epidemic going on in America, if government does intervene what do we honestly have to lose? I can't see why you wouldn't want everyone to have Universal health Care? I'm confused?
SMARAGH20 2 years ago
Because, we want less government intervention and not more. Government has now got it's hands in the auto biz, bank biz and now they want to handle medical biz? Every time government is involved you have lines i.e. US Postal Office, DMV, when government added HMO;s is when medical insurance profit went up and service went down. We need to take the money out of Washington then all those lobbyist vultures will stop hovering. Read what our founders wrote about gov.
Jewzabel 2 years ago
Man, are u stupid or something? the goverment has his hand on the car industry and the bank industry because they abused the free market and crashed the economy, this becasue there was nobody there to inforce a regulation. Banks kept borrowing money at high interest to people who could not pay it back in order to maximize profit
donnomar 1 year ago
The point is that the free market can deliver higher quality at lower cost than any government run system.
Does anybody think that a government bureaucracy could have come up with the iPhone?
No. Same goes for health care.
Leftists are idiots on this one. Shame on you for letting your arrogance get in the way of human progress.
hegemonymony 2 years ago
explain that to my son who is now disabled, almost died at the ripe old age of 13 (in 1991) because blue cross continually denied services for medical treatment.
Co.

lame54 2 years ago
So you think that by going with a government-run system, you'll eliminate greed or the profit motive?
Every socialized system on the planet is plagued with stories like the one you mention... simply because they ration service.
And btw, there's an army of lawyers who would help you sue blue cross for their horrible handling of your son's case.
If you remove competition or the profit motive from the health care system, it would be a crime against humanity... think about it in those terms.
hegemonymony 2 years ago
for your info, there are not an "army of lawyers" do you think I have not tried all avenues since my son was diagnosed in 1991? The Insurance Co. help to write most of the laws regulating their industry. "Reviewing" and "Redflaging" are two things I'm quite familiar with and they use them often. The problem with that is the delay in medical treatment while they use those legal tools to deny claims. In the early 90's Ca enacted some tough laws to counter these but it still gave them 30 days.
lame54 2 years ago
30 days can mean the difference between life, death and disability. But what the heck they are still within the law.
Please I have spent over 15 years reading Ins. policies and fighting with them. You are aware that they push or cancel most long term or catastrophic illnesses onto the public systems? Leaving mostly healthy on their rolls and more profit for the company, shifting the burden to the taxpayers. If you look at the history of insurance that is not how it was first set up.
lame54 2 years ago
I'm a little more informed & experienced than you may think, on this subject.

may I suggest you read a book called "Fighting the Blues", It opened my eyes on how difficult it was to fight them, but I did fight them and it took time away from my ill child and other children when they needed me most. No one should be put in that position, that is why most give up the fight and end up on medi-cal, after they have lost everything, savings, homes, jobs, marriages and sometimes their ill loved one. I lived it, may I suggest you get a little more info before you judge.
patty
lame54 2 years ago
and may I add, don't give advice regarding "army of lawyers" before you actually have researched the laws in regards to the Insurance Industry.

If he could afford an "army of lawyers," he would have just paid for the treatment directly because he'd be fucking rich.
uberjim83 2 years ago 3
What!? Taking the profit motive out of health care would be a crime against humanity!? It should be about helping people, not making money! The problem with America is that money means more than human life! You should be ashamed for being so greedy. The love of money is disgusting.
jfkjrlover 2 years ago 2
They took the profit motive out of Public Education - look how well that worked out for society
There's a 50% dropout rate in major Democrat-run cities across the country. We spend among the most per pupil, yet rank among the lowest of industrialized nations. All of this because we had government monopolize the education industry
The same thing happened w/ the USPS, Fannie & Freddie and Medicare & Medicaid, which have tens of trillions in unfunded liabilities. Unsustainable, capiche?
hegemonymony 2 years ago
hegemonymony:
except that every statement youve made is unambiguously incorrect.

THEREWILLBENOBLOOD 2 years ago
Actually, you have to wait in line here just as much if not more. If you had ever been to a doctor's office, dentist's office, hospital... Aw who am I kidding? You already know this shit. Facts are irrelevant to you. The whole point of this is trying to skip the middleman, and you're basically blaming the middleman on the people who're trying to get rid of it.
uberjim83 2 years ago
Shame on your selfishness that should be replaced with the desire to have higher taxes so others in your country can see a doctor without paying anything up front like they do in Europe.
jfkjrlover 2 years ago
What? And waste money on an unsustainable bloated bureaucracy which stifles economic growth as it has done in Europe during the entire post war period?
I think not. The future wants us to develop sustainable systems. Government-run Health Care corporations are unsustainable. Even JFK Jr. understood this.
hegemonymony 2 years ago
Yeah, good luck seeing a doctor, try five weeks or more waiting time.
Higher taxes, are you sick? Why do you want to steal people's money?
theporksicle 2 years ago
You are sooo ignorant of the facts, why do you think anyone with half a brain and enough money goes to America for treatment?? We have private hospitals but they are nowhere near as good as some of those in the US.
Besides, why should someone whose healthy have to pay for the healthcare of someone else? Its not their business.
theporksicle 2 years ago
Why should someone value money over other human beings?
Why do people value trivial politics over human beings?
CaptainRidley 2 years ago
Its their money to do with what they want, these people have no right to anyone else's money, regardless of whether or not they require treatment.

Hey, did anybody notice the key way of knowing when Nixon was lying?
He blinks like there's no tomorrow after having addressed the American people in that one part.

First thing I noticed...as he finished his statement on 18.Feb about wanting to give Americans the best healthcare, his eyes were blinking like crazy.

What an eye opener. Watergate pales in comparison. I wonder what other gems are contained in those tapes.
alancshearer 3 years ago 18
I don't think you quite comprehend the difference between HMOs and Universal Healthcare.
Listen to how the US healthcare system is designed...heard from 1:15-1:26.
"All the incentives are towards less medical care because the less care they give them, the more money they make."
That's not a healthcare system.
Western countries, and even poor countries can afford universal healthcare.
But that would get in the way of many people's profits.
nickqt 3 years ago 11
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Michael Moore pins the problem of HMOs on the government... and then thinks that MORE government is this solution. What an ixiot.
cromicus 4 years ago
There is a difference between bad government policy and good. This president is a war criminal and should be impeached. Does that mean we throw away all government?
I assume you have no problem with a government run military, police force, firefighting system.
Our country spends more on health care per person than any other country, yet we have one of the worst systems out of all the developed countries. 40-50 million uninsured.
TheStallion3 3 years ago 3
Very important moment in history, not just because it shows Nixon lying (nothing unusual about that) but shows blatant aim of "managed care" providers to profit at expense of public's health and US Administration's complicity in this.
tomgin1 4 years ago 17
Exactly. The very next day Nixon is out there touting this scam and how it's going to be a great benefit to the American people, yet on the 17th you hear clearly that it is just a money making scheme for the providers who make money by denying care.
ms8596 3 years ago 7
