This is a very insightful interview, I recall watching it live. Forget 'arrogant Keating' bit - if you know history and the China v. 1. 1996 - The electorate was tired of Keating's arrogance.

2. 1998 - Children Overboard. And Howard got less votes than Beazley in any case. He just got lucky as to where those votes were.

3. 2001 - Held 2 months after 9/11. No-one was gonig to switch governments then.

4. 2004 - Latham was the ALP leader. 'Nuff said.

@Progressive75 The 1998 election was held on the platform of the GST, in which the Liberals lost the two party preferred vote however won the election with a reduced majoirty of seats (from 45 to 12). 2001 saw the Tampa boat crisis and the children overboard affair in which Howard latched onto a general rise in nataionalism which was brought out by Hanson. Remember his speech "we will decide who comes to this country and under what circumstances they come here"
