  • PJK, the best.

  • The continuing despisement felt between Japan and China should be a cause for grear concern for the Asia region.

A new Japanese-Sino War is the consummate nightmare for our region of the World.

  • Keating is Legend....

  • Liberals ar greedy narcissistic jews

  • @theprophetagp God damn it why the hell do you have to write crap like that. I am so sick of racist bullshit on youtube.

  • Ha, Ha, Ha you Labor goons cheering the biggest enemy of the Australian Worker because he and Hawk lowered tarrifs productive Industries moved off-shore. Resulting in the decimation of Labor's support by Blue Collar Woorkers. Now Labor can only win Government with Greens in Government- LABOR in the Dust bin of history- thankyou rusted on saps for voting Hawk and Keating for 13 years .

  • keating is a narcissistic scoundrel

  • Keating paints a worrying picture.

  • This is a very insightful interview, I recall watching it live. Forget 'arrogant Keating' bit - if you know history and the China v. Japan and the US position being highly compromised, the ultra-conservative Japanese attitude and the resentment that China still feels, and resentment doesn't even come close. What Keating says is true. When leaders don't talk the outcome can become war. Vietnam was such a case. The west thought it was commie inscursion, not so. It was a civil war and US in middle.

  • 3:15 did he say bill "prick" clinton.....freudian slip mr keating?

  • It was Keating's "arrogance" that made him as great a leader as he was. Those real statesmen are rarely seen. Sadly the Australian electorate are also "Turkey's", if it looks too tall chop it down even it it's good for you. The mentality of a regressive society.

  • Kerry O'Brien doesn't like too many people but you can tell he likes Keating. And why not Keating was one of the best Prime Ministers we have ever had.

  • bill "prick" clinton...hehe...super acerbic

  • Vote Socialist Alliance no.1 and end the two faction (ALP/Coalition) business party dictatorship!

  • Australia should say no to anymore immagrants. We need to preserve what Australia is, one of the least populated countrys on earth. I live 2hrs away from Sydney I love where I live its full of Austrlains. I travel to Sydney alot, it seems like a whole different country. Sydney CBD areas are full of Asians and west of Sydney its full of middle easteners. We should expand our own culture and put a serious stop to immagrants.

  • @Rambl147 You are such a racist redneck. Do you have any idea that Aboriginal people are the TRUE Australians? Perhaps you should leave their country so they can have back what they loved. Racism is one of the ugliest personality traits you could have and should not be indulged.

  • @gauchoy It's not about racism you jackarse, it's about less people in our country. You are a blind idiot. Do you really want to live amonst millions and the filth and polution they create??? And I have some Aboriginal heritage mate. We're full.

  • @Rambl147 population growth often brings about prosperity and to assume allowing immigrants in will create filth is a very racist statement. However you justify it I feel that to deny a man in need of assistance is wrong. I just feel compassion for those seeking a new home as it is never an easy decision to leave what you know and decide to start a new and uncertain life in a foreign land. Anyone who chooses that path must be in real need and we should feel for them.

  • @gauchoy It's sad but true. But I can live with it. Large populations of any kind will create filth. But just go to china town and walk down some back streets and have a wiff. Or go for a train trip to Bankstown have a stroll around enjoy the lovely communitys...So living in a over populated cabon dioxide stinking society is the only option for our country??? I'll be off to the outback if this keeps getting worst. If more bush around my area keeps getting destroyed to fit more ants in.

  • @gauchoy

If you are old enough to remember Indonesia's behaviour in Irian Jaya (was 'West New Guinea'), and Indonesia's later behaviour in East Timor, ........if the Aboriginal people were 'given back their country', how many days do you think would elapse between their re-possession of that 'homeland', and its wresting from them by our neighbouring Northern thugs?

Wot world do you live in, wot is it you are smoking?

Have you seen how Indos treat each other?

    'Foreigners' don't rate.

  • @herbgarratt My point is to consider a persons presumed right to say who can and cannot enter 'their' country. I believe every human being is of one family and my points are about prejudice and racism. No matter how you colour it racism is wrong. I am by no means suggesting that we have a major upheaval of regime change but simply make the point that we should all respect our position in the world and have more acceptance and compassion for the people who need to start a new life.

  • @gauchoy

Be careful who you have compassion for, my friend?

They may not share that compassion for you?

  • @herbgarratt weak arguement......those thuggish northeren neighbours existed thousands of years b4 white settlement.....and yet.australia was never colonised by those northern indonesian thugs your refering too.......if you want to argue a point....do some research first!!!

  • @Dangermouse6340

You are obviously born B4 1975.

I clearly recall the behavious of Sukarno, Soeharto, and the endless repertoire of corrupt military leaders who have held Indonesia 'together', at the point of a machine gun.

The only solace you may take, if you are an Australian, is that Indoneis is as about as 'united' as Jugoslavia ever was.

They hate each other, and are systematically raped, island by island, by a central government, acting exactly as did Tito, with 'foreigners'.

  • @herbgarratt your a fool!!!

  • @gauchoy silence, filth.

  • Woopsy... 3:16, Bill 'the prick' Clinton?? I'm sure he didn't mean to say that.

  • 5:55 to 6:45 so true.... not much people see that.

  • 3:14

    Bill who? Bill Prrr...Clinton

  • 5:30 he says China's aging demographic means the country's shrinking and then China has got a much younger demographic

  • he meant japan's aging demographic. it isn't hard to work out..

  • the coalition said that if they hadnt been left such a massive debt by labor they wouldnt have been forced to cut government spending in some areas.

thats what labors policy got us - high spending which led to high inflation and interest rates so everyone suffered - we got the worst recession since the great depression and tens of thousands lost their homes and jobs.

  • tosser

  • Interesting what Clinton had to deal with 16 years ago - an incumbent President Bush, a fucked economy, and a fuck up in Iraq. And 90210 is back on the TV. never let it be said that Americans learn from their mistakes.

  • Go back to South Africa you douchebag. you know nothing. Every extra day Australia stays in the first world you should thank Paul Keating. Dont believe me? Have a look at the CIA world factbook.

  • Thanks for this interview. Mr Keating has an ability to explain politics in a way the other leaders lack. It's an Australian trait to speak direct. Keating is his own best speech writer.

  • 1. Did Howard want to be in power for himself of the country?

Himself. He wasn't even interested in his party, nor its members. His view never extended beyond his own reign

    2. What actual structural reforms did he achieve in 11 years?

Nothing. Like his view of power, his vision was always short-term, and his policies knee-jerk

    3. Why did he lose his own seat and got annihilated in the 07 election?

The real question is "why didnt it happen sooner?"

  • He got lucky. Take a check.

    1. 1996 - The electorate was tired of Keating's arrogance.

    2. 1998 - Children Overboard. And Howard got less votes than Beazley in any case. He just got lucky as to where those votes were.

    3. 2001 - Held 2 months after 9/11. No-one was gonig to switch governments then.

    4. 2004 - Latham was the ALP leader. 'Nuff said.

  • @Progressive75 The 1998 election was held on the platform of the GST, in which the Liberals lost the two party preferred vote however won the election with a reduced majoirty of seats (from 45 to 12). 2001 saw the Tampa boat crisis and the children overboard affair in which Howard latched onto a general rise in nataionalism which was brought out by Hanson. Remember his speech "we will decide who comes to this country and under what circumstances they come here"

  • @Progressive75 in summing up Howard was cunning and would do anything to hold power regardless of the consequences. 2004 was a landslide mostly due to Mark Latham who was a poor choice of leader for the ALP.

  • @Progressive75 The children overboard issue was in 2001. 1998 was the GST referendum

  • actually howards politices were based around the concept that its the role of the government to let people flourish. its a lot more useful for people to have someone who actually manages the economy well instead of someone like keating who gave us record high interest rates and the worst recession in 60 years

  • Paul is dead right in the fact that he says the governments wont take on the big issues. And why would they? As was shown by Keating whenever a government attempts to they get kicked out for their troubles.

  • unfortunately thats how dumb the voting public is

  • The Liberal party's policies are about maintaining the status quo for the wealthy elite. Keeping the rich rich and the poor poor. When you're a homeless person starving to death out on the streets, you're not going to give a shit about the economy or the country being bankrupt. You're going to care about getting through the day.

  • keating showed a little more of his humor and human side.....howard was just a boring, decietful little munchkin for 11 yrs.....do him good too be the second priminister to get voted out of his seat and lose the election... arrogant men he is

  • Rubbish..Keating sent us out the back door. You could get more money at the dole office than at work!! The world was not in recession when Keating was in..only Australia

  • 1987 international market collapse, need I say more

  • You would have to say a lot more!!Keating sent the country bankrupt. He called in all his union cronies and they signed the 'Accord" so that members could make no wage claims etc.The world did not do it..Labor did!!

  • lol, sent the country broke lol

he as treasurer he inherited an economy in debt from howard and then costello inherited an economy in surplus.

the last 4 years of keating was growth

    we went for growth!!

  • How would a peson who was only a child no!! There was no growth....there were no jobs and 1/2 the country was on social security!!

  • I was a child thats correct, but all the historical economic data of the country is on the website of the RBA website.

and I seem to remember all my friends having parents that worked.

I now live in the UK and they had higher unemployment, higher interest rates etc in the 80's then australia.

  • well now you've got Nelson - another short assed prick - oh thats right who lost their seat in the last election, mmmmmmm let me think oh Howard thats right it was Howards wasn't it. Go and hide under a rock for the next 15 years you xenophobic, queen loving dumbed down, dim-witted, dodo, dull, , feebleminded, foolish, moronic, simpleminded, half-witted, ignorant, imbecilic, impassive, lethargic, obtuse, phlegmatic, slow, slow-witted, sluggish, stolid, thick, gormless Howard loving pillock

  • Well at least Ruddy Buddy has plenty of money to spend for a while...thanks to the Libs. We will see how Labor goes with the ecomomy!!And I'm not hiding under any rock!

  • It's not about money - Rudd is a pale former shadow of Keating - but he's not a devisive, opportunist like . Lets be honest here pi - I'll ask u 3 questions, you can ask me 3. The only catch is be honest

    1. Did Howard want to be in power for himself of the country?

    2. What actual structural reforms did he achieve in 11 years? (The GST and Workchoices are not allowed - why - a tax is a tax and WC is dead in the water).

    3. Why did he lose his own seat and got annihillated in the 07 election?

  • I'm not interested in your questions. The Labor party did nothing for the Australian economy or its people. Tax rates were hugh under its govt.Paul Keating was an agorant as*HOLE. He sold the farm. I think that signing Kyoto is a waste of time and why would we say SORRY to the abos...we didn't do anything.

  • He aint perfect. But there was a lot of misconceptions about keating that ignorant people never understood. The tax thing you mention is a coalition myth peddled since they took office.Complete bullshit. You seem to have little structure or logic to you argument. Your comment about the economy is absurd. When Keating became treasurer in 83, the economy was a 50's relic-interest rates of 20% and inflation at11%. Howard was absolutely clueless. You are pretty dumb mate - who's lies have got to you.

  • That's the kind of reply you can expect from a Conservative. Ignorant, devoid of evidence, emotional, and no no reasoned thought what-so-ever The literary equivelant of putting your fingers in your ears and screaming "I can't hear you". Pathetic.

  • I wonder if your derogatory labelling of indigenous peoples helped 'kickittome' see the logic of your argument? I hate it when people from one side of politics accuse the other of being idealistic and then parade about their irratioal prejudices i order to justify their argument. Try doing some thinking of your own for a change mate. Your dad's opinions don't have to be yours!

  • If you are replying to me...my dads dead. And I am old enough enough and well travelled enough within Australia to know my own mind, thank you very much all the same.I have lived under 2 Labor Govts and both times I watched the Australian way of life go a long way down hill. You people need to get out of your cities and take a long drive!!

  • I grew up on a farm in Countegany NSW and now live in Armidale NSW. I have never lived in a city and never hope to. All I wanted you to do was try to form your opinions more rationally. McFrosty and KITM were guilty of the same emotive prejudices as you, but if you disagree with them, then provide them with solid evidence and they will be more likely to change their mind. Using value loaded terms does not lend credibility to the reasoning behind your argument; it just turns people off it.

  • You pretentious little prick sitting up there in your mcmansion. I wouldn't expect you to know anything about social policy

  • You dirty little smart ar**.When I was 19 I was at uni and lived on $50 a week...we didn't have cars or mobile phones!

  • big deal mate. whats changed? Well Universities have truly been gutted of services under Howard. After rent and maybe a bowl of cereal some days i probably live on less than 50 dollars a week and i work. What do cars and mobile phones have to do with anything by the way.

  • We couldn't afford a house phone or a mobile...we had to find a public phone to ring our parents long distance! We certainly couldn't afford to own or run a car!

  • well i survive on $10 a day

I don't have money for shoes

    I walk 5km to uni

I study from dawn till dusk, then work as a cleaner.

Come on lets not do this.

  • It's not about money - Rudd is a pale former shadow of Keating - but he's not a devisive, opportunist like . Lets be honest here pi - I'll ask u 3 questions, you can ask me 3. The only catch is be honest

    1. Did Howard want to be in power for himself or the country?

    2. What actual structural reforms did he achieve in 11 years? (The GST and Workchoices are not allowed - why - a tax is a tax and WC is dead in the water).

    3. Why did he lose his own seat and got annihillated in the 07 election?

  • Why wasnt he in power for longer?.One term (on his own,the rest taken over from Hawke)is fairly pissweak overall before he was decimated at the polls

  • It's time effect, he had been a major player in the labor government for over a decade and people were just sick and tired of him, same reason John got voted out, what did Rudd offer that Beazley and Crean didn't? He just offered it at the right time.

  • Yeah,fair comment

  • He really was our greatest Prime Minister
