@seamanera Deion on a different level? Not hardly, even the great Jerry Rice admitted he had a harder time with getting separation from Green than he ever did with Deion. IMO Deion is way overrated what with his "business decisions" and what not. You didn't see Darrell bitching out on tackles because he played the game the way it's meant to be played.
If you gave him right now in Feb to train for football as a nickel corner then he probably could still be in football shape. I mean this guy was so amazing that he lasted that long that when I heard about his 40 team at his age that I wasn't surprised in the least.
this guy terrorized my giants,he should be top 20,75,thats ridiculous, besides deion sanders,i am not sure u ve any other corner better than this guy,This iis coming from a Giants fan,his play is being diminshed cuz he didnt have more Int's but what the guy play.
@deepbg1 when u really thinkabout it not really hes known for his coverage and if your going to compare him with deion woodson or revis hell get torn up dont get me wrong he was good but not the best thats why hes so low on the list
@GONNAKICKURASS21 Nope. Rod Woodson was the best. No one is even in that class, and I don't see how you could even argue it. Jimmy Johnson was great (who I bet is not on this list), and I'll put him on a tier with Willie Brown, Blount, Green, and (yep) Deion.
@faulknerdieddrunk I would dare put Ronnie Lott as Number One over Woodson who you didn't even mention there. Regardless, Darrell Green was, and is, one of my favorite players of all time and easily one of the best to play. Usually CBs end up as Safetys as they get older, but Green was always there as a CB. In person, I saw him run down Deshawn Foster when Foster was a Rookie and Green was 42.
@illmadeknight fair point on lott - i was thinking of corners here, although you might think of lott as a corner (guess you could think of woodson as a safety conversely). and it's a fair point on green - i certainly would love to have a guy on my team with that kind of longevity and that consistent a performance. and green may lose value because of relatively low int numbers, but who wanted to throw at him? So fair point.
I am a lifelong Skins fan and I have met Green on three separate occasions. First time I met him I was a 10 year old kid back in 86. The next time was at a Sports Banquet for High School Athletes when I was in High School. The next time was when I was 25 and about to become a Father. The point I have to make is that as I grew into a large Man whose over 6'4" Green looked smaller physically but his Legend got bigger! He was a 5'8" Little Engine That Could!
Fags, in my experience are really swell folks. Believe it or not they won't do anything to you unless you want it. The man is a awesome athlete, that's all. Thankfully the rest of the world has some sense of fairness and doesn't think like you.
I've never respected Carl Lewis much, always thought he was an egomaniac and a cry baby, but after this I fucking HATE him. His ego is so inflated that he has to go "DARREL YOU NEVER BEAT ME!!" and try to ruin Darrel Greene's special moment. Green whooped Lewis' ass in the fastest man competition, so he IS faster. The fact he had the audacity to take a cheap shot like that shows what a faggot he is, and how he constantly needs all the attention to be about him. Anyone else think he is a tool?
Give Revis and Nmandi a season of one on one no deep help against those guys before talking about them in the same breath please. Darrell Green is an absolute legend, and it was a privilege to see him play.
When people talk about "shut down corners" it's worth pointing out that in the Redskins defensive scheme, Darrell tracked the opposition team's best receiver all over the field on every down, with no safety help. Just pause and think about that...Man to man single coverage for 60 minutes against Jerry Rice, Michael Irvin, Henry Ellard, Tim Brown, Cris Carter, Anthony Carter, Mike Quick, Roy Green etc etc. And sure he got beat now and again, but who wouldn't against those guys..Give Revis and Nm
What people don’t understand it’s a difference between track speed and football speed, when u have pads on and that whistle blows its a whole nother monster, plus in football you may have to stop and go, cut back, breaking tackles and etc, so agility also plays a factor in football speed. Just b/c you are a track speed don’t mean shit on the football field, Jerry Rice ran a 4.6 and I seen him out run people on the field lol… D. Green has awesome speed on the field and on a track.
I always looked forward to watching him play. Those years were pretty damn good in football. One of the best athletes that inspired me to play the game. Thank you darrell for entertaining us for so many years.
Dorsett couldnt churn with both elbows as Greed did because Tony had to secure the ball. If you notice, Dorsett picks it up a notch when Green comes into his view, and with that slight increase, Greens pursuit lessened a little. Tony without the ball, doesnt get caught on that play. It doesnt seem like much, but with that little of a diff in speed, just the ball handling was enough to make the differene. Great play by Green nonetheless though. "Catching" Tony D. made him famous
If you watch the elbows on both players, its obvious that Green is getting a LOT more work from his left elbow than Tony. That may not seem like a big deal, but when youre talking about a footrace betweeen to speedsters, it is in fact a big big deal.
@rmraiders24 This is so true. Great era for db's the late 80's-90's. Only other one to add is Night Train Lane. Although in today's game I see Night Train more as a Polamalu type SS.
I believe it was Joe Theismann who said," If Darrell had had good hands, he would have intercepted twice as many passes." Green was a marvelous athlete, with great longevity, but I'm sorry to you Redskin fans, but other corners were better.
@MrKilluminati12 It was Aikman, not Akmin, and Emmitt, with two T's. Now of course the o-line was fabulous. But Aikman doesn't get credit cause Dallas didn't run a West Coast. He was as accurate as it gets as far as QB's go. And a system quarterback doesn't win 3 super bowls. And Emmitt Smith not only has the record, but if you ever see highlight footage of Emmitt Smith, he led the way for guys like Mark Ingram, Frank Gore, and Maurice Jones-Drew. Under 5'10, but powerful lower body.
@riseagainstmeatloaf dont really care about my mispelling. please barry sanders could have easily broken it faster then emmit but retired and he did that with a shitty o line and still had a 2,000 yard season. Product systems can win super bowls look at brady. Emmit Smith in my opinion does not deserve to be on this list he just had alot of hype around him and thats why hes popular but again this is my opinion.
@MrKilluminati12 He does deserve to be on the list, because Emmitt Smith would have been a perennial Pro-Bowler with multiple thousand-yard seasons no matter what. He was no average running back. And I never said Barry couldn't break the record faster, I know he would have. Give me something that Troy Aikman didn't do well-was a leader, cannon arm, pinpoint accurate, could move out of the pocket, kept his poise, and won games. That will work in any system.
@riseagainstmeatloaf well in my opinion he doesnt we can debate all u want its not gonna change what i saw him do and i belive they were both extremly over rated and hyped
@whayes8084 duh cuz ur a cowboy FAN thats like me calling steve atwater the greatest saftey ever as a bronco fan. the reason they won was cuz they had a beasty o line and thats the key part for a dynasty as akmin was a system qb
There's no way Deion could be faster than Darrel, and defiantly can't maintain a consistent 40 speed like Darrel did. 4.24 until he was 40 and heard from one guy he ran a 4.53 when he turned 50! And the shocker I will not forget is when Darrel ran down Neapolean Kauffman who was one of those RBs every defender got burned on, and that's with full speed from both players, and Darrel not having an angle on him!
sanders best 100m time 10.24 on modern surface track, Bob Hayes 47 yrs ago in tokyo on a wet chewed up dirt(YES DIRT) track 10.05= Hayes would have completely

@maulpreylion maybe even faster is this a joke serious usain bolt is the fastest man since track was first recorded as fast as he was bob hayes was definatly not faster than usuain bolt
virtually every sprint record holder in the last 25 years has either tested positive for PEDs or been conclusively found linked to PEDs. now ill give usain the benefit of the doubt even though jamaicans test positive on a regular basis (and their soccer team isnt nearly as fast because of tougher FIFA testing) but lets not forget a man who without any professional training runs 10 seconds on a ground up cinder track.
@maulpreylion Bob hayes was definitely fat but I don't think he would of beat Bolt. Thats just my opinion. Neither of us know for sure. Im almost ceratain that Bolt is clean. He's been running sub 20 200's since he was 17. He also broke 10 seconds in the 100 on only his second try. Bolt is just one of those once in a lifetime athletes. Bob has was a bad mofo though and I know for a fact that on the tracks we have to day he'd definitely go sub 10.
true but consider this. hayes never fully committed himself to track... remember he was a full blown football halfback in college who ran track as a hobby and his only training in running was from his football coach. green, ron brown, etc. are track stars turned football players.
as far as bolt lol ...well track & field has been the dirtiest sport in the world with virtually all its champions and record breakers directly or indirectly linked to PEDs... just my 2 cents on him
i mean the dude was eating chicken nuggets and slurping milk shakes the night b4 he ran a 9.69... IMO he's all BS
it wasnt but 5-6 years ago when everyone was on lance armstrong's nuts but if u play a sport where everyone is on something chances are u are too. the fastest west african ran a 9.85 and none other dipped 9.9 but for some reason jamaicans run 9.7s and sub routinely (nesta carter's the latest one). thats total BS.
@maulpreylion What do west africans have to do with Jamaicans. Some of the fastest sprinters of all time come from jamaica. Donovan Bailey, Linford Christie, and Ben johnson were all born there. Yes Ben cheated but I'm just saying Jamaica has a ton of talented sprinters. Track and Field to them is like football to us Americans.
track is their 3rd sport in jamacia. their best athletes play cricket and soccer which have far more stringent drug testing thus they are pretty average in those sports.
in any case i hope they're clean but i still regard football players like hayes, green, etc. as the more genuine and superior athletes
@whayes8084 The majority of black people in the western hemisphere descend from west africa. But my point is, these sprinters such as ben Johnson, Donovan bailey, LInford Christie, Asafa Powell, Bolt, etc were born in Jamaica. This guy was talking about a west african that was born and raised IN africa (Olusoji Fasuba). He was implying that since an African native hasn't run sub 9.8 that jamaicans shouldn't be able to. Which is nonsense.
I would rate him ahead of Deion Sanders on heart, team spirit and above all his willingness to stick his head in and make tackles, so he was an every down player where Deion was more of a show-pony when the other team threw. Only Rod Woodson in the modern era compares or Revis if he carries on for another 10 yrs at his current level.
after this talking 9-times Olympic Champion in sprint and long jump some people should stop compare Chris Johnson and Usain Bolt. Bolt will smoke anybody's ass, no matter how fast you are in your sport. It is like compare Porsche Carrera GT (which is pretty fast) and F1. Both cars are fast, but different level though !!!
who the hell has made this list? Darrell Green 75 ???!!!!!! What is wrong with you poeple? Probably the best CB in NFL history !!! If we have 22 positions on football field, how the hell this guy could be 75 ??? At least top 20-30 !!!
@dertylox45 Deion went into the Hall of Fame before Green too. Why? He was one of the two best defensive backs to ever play in the NFL. And Deion didn't need any help shutting a receiver down.
This has been flagged as spam show

This guy was talking about a west african that was born and raised IN africa (Olusoji Fasuba). He was implying that since an African native hasn't run sub 9.8 that jamaicans shouldn't be able to. Which is nonsense.

I would rate him ahead of Deion Sanders on heart, team spirit and above all his willingness to stick his head in and make tackles, so he was an every down player where Deion was more of a show-pony when the other team threw. Only Rod Woodson in the modern era compares or Revis if he carries on for another 10 yrs at his current level.

@RoyG72 Nnamdi is better then Revis and he's been doing it longer. Nnamdi is probably the best shut down corner ever if he keeps it up.

after this talking 9-times Olympic Champion in sprint and long jump some people should stop compare Chris Johnson and Usain Bolt.

@TheLuscious
Not true. Green went in '08 and Deion went in '11.
