  • The best way to fix this is simply ride a Japanese or German bike. There are no junk crankshafts there. Harley executives and chief engineers have not had their day in bankruptcy court, but this crap is a shortcut to get there.

  • so at the conclusion of all this, would this tend to support that the newer style cranks aren't as "poorly constructed" or as "inferior" as some shops try to state ?

    In the end, the only way to determine if your crank is faulty is to remove and check it, which is a costly and time intensive process, most average mechanics wouldn't do. So if the engine is torn down for some purpose, usually a couple $k worth of work...why not put in a $1200 S&S / Jims crank while you're at it ?

  • As an engine builder back in the 70's, when asian parts showed up on the shelf, we had problems with truing wheels, found it to be the same off-center counter-bores.

    There after we only used the Motor Co's product or S&S (George was Great).
