  • and PS, if Driscoll says he's about simplicity and poverty, then he's fooling himself with having 3 TiVo's, 2 Home Theater systems, etc etc.

  • I watched this video again after hearing Francis Chan speak at The Justice Conference here in Portland. One thing I picked up is that Driscoll counters Chan's theology of "sanctification through simplicity, poverty, suffering" with the exact opposite - complexity, abundance, and blessing. It sounds like Driscoll is proposing a theology of prosperity, not health & wealth prosperity but prosperity like ministry is about consumerist success.

  • Luke 19:26-27 Praise Jesus

  • Mark Driscoll "If your a member of the church don't come and talk to me" is NOT cool. That is not a heart of a sheppard.

  • I really can't believe this man said "if someone walks in as a non-christian they'd hear ENOUGH to be saved".......wow.....

  • its so much more than that

  • @Swenfamily10 when you are speaking thousands of people the Holy Spirit will go forth and lead people to repentance. Ever see a Billy Graham crusade?

  • The Gospel should be somewhere in every sermon not only for the unsaved visitor to hear, but for the saved member to be reminded. The church is not actually for the unsaved, but the gathering of the called out for growth, exhortation, and reproof; the unsaved should not feel comfortable there-either they're drawn by God or they'll leave. The Gospel or sermon should convict the unsaved, while equipping us to go preach to the unsaved so we bring new converts to church.

  • @2timothy23 well said! well said I say!

  • we are all dependent upon Christ you cannot make a DECISION to follow Christ,,,unless the Holy Spirit works in you you will not come to Christ,,,we are not able to do this on our own,,,you have to ask Jesus to save you,,,to change you into a new creature,,,this is why people sit in church for 30 yrs and never get saved

  • Why is this even a question? Look at Judah Smith and his church. He and the other elders preach Jesus EVERY week, and look at their church. It's Jesus that will change lives, believer or non believer, it's the MOST powerful word you can preach, why you would miss that in ANY sermon is beyond me.

  • Another False Prophet movement.

  • @ECorriz Really? And you say this based on what evidence? The internet really is the bathroom wall of society where anyone can say anything about anybody and be totally unaccountable for their comments. There is no need for standards, credentials or facts. Just like in the old days when we were 11 yrs old and locked ourselves in the bathroom stalls and started railing against those we disagreed with or hated. Some people never grow up. In His Grip

  • @ECorriz Elaboration? How is making the Gospel central to every sermon a "false" movement? Thanks.

  • @sourceseeker1 the purpose of the preacher is to not judge if the person truly meant it or not. The purpose of the minister is to simply A) Proclaim the Good News B) Take care of people. God knows the heart. Oh yeah, out of 900 many probably have fallen back into their old life. It's up to God and them to work out the salvation with aid from the minister (if they want). In stead of judging 'if they', praise God they have been forgiven of their sins.

  • Ive seen Perry Noble on this show.. Im shocked that James McDonnald would have anything to do with Perry...

  • @jaredontv If you don't think James would have anything to do with Perry, i guess you havent heard of The Elephant Room. Check that out, there is a second one coming up in a week, but Perry Noble was on the first one. Invited there by James Macdonald

  • @jaredontv If you believe that James McDonald is a man of God and that Perry Noble is not...... then by your rationale.... Jesus would have had nothing to do anyone. That's a rather shallow view of the transformational power of Christ. The bible is clear that the Good News is for the sick, not the healthy. Jesus walked and talked and ministered to all and he didn't shy away if he felt someone was a heretic. How do you think Jesus viewed the Pharisees? Did he shy away from them?

  • @jaredontv If you're shocked, maybe that should open your mind somewhat and possibly try and figure out why. Ultimately, you might find out that those you "think" are so different actually have more in common with those we revere and respect than we thought. Same gospel, different delivery.

  • Amazing that they actually don't explain what the gosprl is in this video lol.

  • Lush brute?, faaaaag.

  • these are really good! just hearing them makes me more spiritual already!

  • How do you know those nine hundred baptisms aren't false conversions?

  • @sourceseeker1 And how do you know they are?

  • Nice conversation boys, now just out of curiosity, can any of you tell me what exactly this gospel message is and how you know whether of not it's worked, ie how do you know for sure someone has been saved, born again, properly exposed and impacted by it. Guess it kinda matters if we're talkin about heaven or hell here.

  • @sourceseeker1 I don't know if you've heard Mark Dever, but if you go and listen to any sermon he'll tell you about God, man, Christ and Response. What he means by that is that God is holy, trinitarian, creator and sustainer of the whole universe. Man is created in his image but is fallen, man is a sinner and running away from God. Christ came into the world as the word made flesh, who was with God and is himself God. Christ became a man, and lived a righteous life. The life we should live

  • @DefrostedCalvinist @defrostedcalvinist and died the death we deserve in our place. His death for us demands a response, a grateful heart to respond in love asking God to forgive us for our sins and to come into our live and help us to live for him. I know that's what both the Marks preach. I don't know of James but as he is part of the gospel coalition I'd take it as read that he believes the same thing. Hope that helps sourceseeker! :-)

  • Did he just say that if you attend Mark's church, and you are a Christian, Don't come talk to him- he only wants to talk to the unsaved. You should care for the unsaved and preach the gospel yes, but the church is for the saved and you as a pastor need to be available to those who are his flock. Church is to minster to the saved and to call the unsaved to repent, but what a strange approach to your flock to say "Leave me alone."

  • Good video! James and all were... very agreeable to every viewpoint brought up BUT keep the videos coming!

  • @logofrobe

But remember this: Religion is manmade, but the Gospel of Jesus is not.

  • @kutless45 Put VERY well.

  • Last time I checked Before is a contradiction to After, God is a contradiction to Satan and Yes is a contradiction to No.

Plain and simple. If you'd like more contradictions, just do a quick search for "bible" and "contradictions", there are literally hundreds of them.

    Praise Jesus!

  • Sure, more than happy to point out 3 clear cut contradictions that cannot be denied... Who incited David to count the fighting men of Israel? • God did (2 Samuel 24: 1) • Satan did (I Chronicles 2 1:1) When did David bring the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem? Before defeating the Philistines or after? • After (2 Samuel 5 and 6) • Before (I Chronicles 13 and 14) Did Joshua and the Israelites capture Jerusalem? • Yes (Joshua 10:23, 40) • No (Joshua 15:63)
  • @2012isrealfool

The first contradiction (2nd samuel and 1 chronicles) is fixed by an understanding that Satan can do nothing without God allowing him. Read the book of Job. God used Satan to test Job and for His own purpose which God was faultless, but thus both were active. The second is two different accounts. There were many battles between the philistines are the Israelites. The last contradiction is talking about different areas. Answer me this, what is the greatest command in the bible?

  • @2012isrealfool So, you said :Sure, more than happy to point out 3 clear cut contradictions that cannot be denied... Who incited David to count the fighting men of Israel? • God did (2 Samuel 24: 1) • Satan did (I Chronicles 2 1:1)

I am waiting for the contradiction: It never says that ONLY God did this or that ONLY Satan did that, it shows that they BOTH played a role in the action. Get it?! Did you come up with these yourself, or did you copy and paste from some site???

  • With all the contradictions in the bible, I don't understand how so many people believe all of it, simply because it says so in the bible. Its ridiculous.

  • @2012isrealfool

I encourage you to give me one good contradiction in the Bible. not God being gracious and sending people to hell, or loving everyone and still hating people. give me a situation where two ideas, statements, etc. are actually contradicting each other and I will admit that I am ridiculous.

  • I feel like sharing the gospel should be done to the people who are "ripe" to evangelism, but i don't think it has to only been "looking" for people to evangelize to. Evangelism isn't a check list for me. Its just sharing the good news and my fear of hell combined with my understanding of grace gives me no option but to evangelize to those that i "like"

  • "...the person who has everything and has found nothing". I love it. That was my situation 5 years ago and I was SO ready for Jesus. I had a multi-million dollar business and my life was still a mess. Several years after I lost the business, Jesus Christ came into my life and did for me what no one on this earth could do. He forgave me and gave me a brand new spirit. Jesus Christ is Lord.

  • @MrCava1ier It is a matter of perspective; we shouldn't have to "force" Christ into every passage. We can and should place Christ in every message. No matter what is preached, there should always be an application for the message, and this is where Jesus can always fit in, because no matter what the text, if someone doesn't know Christ and is not saved, it doesn't really matter for that person. First, they need to meet Christ, then all of the passages of scripture apply.

  • @MrCava1ier There's loads of great stuff to watch on the gospel coalition website, one video being a panel discussion with Keller, Piper, Crawford, Chapell and Carson. Another video is also a panel discussion this time with Dever, Ryken and someone else. For some reason youtube won't let mepost the links here, message me if you need the links.

  • @MrCava1ier Luke 24:44 He said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms."

    God Bless

  • @awakeningslethiea

There's a lot more you need to consider when it comes to and when you are trying to figure out which one of those three views you adhere too. Although I love how much you simplified them.

  • @awakeningaletheia well i'm so glad you know what the truth, please share your own consolidation of these to biblical concepts? :)

  • brothers, it's none of your doing. It's the Lord using you for His work.

  • Notice, right after Driscoll mentioned "the invitation" to unbelievers who may be attending services for the first time, MacDonald immediately chimes in, "how to respond; how to make a decision...I would agree with that" (@2:04). Driscoll would have done a tremendous service if he'd stopped, and said, "No, not 'a decision', rather that if they would like to return and hear more, they are always welcome."

Bottom line: Synergism vs. Monergism! It EFFECTS the way we Evangelize!!

  • There is something funny going on here. I do not want to sound critical, but that is what I thought a TRUE Christian was meant to do. That being to always PREACH the Gospel. We are ALL headed for Hell unless we TRULY believe in Jesus Christ. I was a LOST Christian until Christ truly opened my eyes 4 years ago. I repented & was born again. John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

  • Ummm I guess I'm going to sound like the guys on the White Horse Inn but Christians too maybe even more so than non-believers need the Gospel too. Maybe this Gospel Coalition stuff sounds more like the confusion of modern evangelicalism than the Protestant Reformation found in the classic Lutheran, Presbyterian and Reformed creeds. Sorry I'm not a young restless "reformed" guy more like an Old School Presbyterian!

  • "An existential crisis. A person who has everything, and realizes it's nothing"

You can also have nothing and realize you're nothing.

  • So, why did we need to know the convert was African-American? Seems like just a white-guy way of saying that he's reaching "special" groups. A person got saved. Who cares what his race was? Thanks, rich white pastor, for saving the blacks...

  • @badsinger17 no, i dont think he meant nothing more than just giving details. Had he said "a young white man" you probably wouldn't have thought anything. Don't cause ruckus where there isn't. That's pretty immature. And I do not mean to cause argument, just stating my opinion. God Bless!

  • hahaha...

  • Where does the Bible place importance on preaching the gospel in every sermon, or something that can be interpreted as such? I'm not doubting this, I just genuinely don't know if it's a legitimate scriptural command or not. Doesn't the Bible say that we should be sensitive to the presence of non-believers in our churches?

  • @Landlordos7 - The Bible NEVER says church is for the non-believer - it's for fellowship and community with fellow believers. The thought today is bring the non-believer to a church and let them hear the gospel from the pulpit.......but that allows lay Christians to be lazy in their own personal evangelism. It works through the Power of Holy Spirit moving in the lives of people.......but I don't think that's the Biblical design. We're suppose to seek out, not be overly seeker-friendly.

  • @jmarkhinton That's kind of what I was feeling too. That kind of mindset will lead to a lot of problems, we can't rely on church service to do our job and meet people where they're at, instead of trying to persuade them to meet us in our place.

  • @Landlordos7 - but as Matt Chandler says also, "The Gospel is both for the unregenerate and the regenerate. The Good News is for both the saved and the perishing."

  • James MacDonald said he preaches the Gospel in every sermon. That is a lie, most of the times that I have been at his church the Gospel was no where to be found and when he did mention Christ or the cross, sin and repentence were strangely absent. He replaces sin and repentence with "make a decision" and "be baptized." I hope James repents and begins proclaiming a biblical Gospel: God (Holiness), Man (sinfulness), Christ (Cross), Response (Repentence & Faith)

  • @rixstr30 i believe as long as what he is saying is based from scripture, and is not contradicting to it, it really does not matter that he "quotes" it. As long as it is FULLY in line with the Gospel.

  • Where can we find the vid in it's entirety guys? Thanks!!!!

  • I really love these videos, keep 'em coming.
