  • I will recognise the "regulars" who come into the restaurant I work at every day, but if I see them in the grocery store or Wally world or on the street, I will have no clue half the time who they are!!! There have been times someone has said hello to me in a store, and I'll tell my husband "I THINK I work with her....she works up front if it is her, and I work in the back, so I dunno for sure."

  • Photographic memory !

  • okay so when i was younger like in high school i had a "friend with benefits" and one time in school he said hi to me and i did not know who he was. it took me a pretty long time to recognize who he was. it was so embarrassing.

  • Your story is similar to so many of mine. I have had people come up to me in a very familiar way that suggested to me I should know them well, but I have no idea at all who they are, none. I will ask them who they are. Usually I just pretend I know who they are and some time later I figure it out. It's hard.

    Thanks for the video :-)

  • @silvertip185

Hi, what it is or what it called is Prosopagnosia (also known as facial agnosia or face blindness) . I have a mild case as well.

  • @raebabe05 My expereinces have varied but when I have not recognized some people, I really have not a hint as to who they are. I can't explain it to people who don't have the experience. I feel bad when some one comes to me witha smile I don't know if they are a stranger or a friend. Can't help it.

  • I don't think I have that hard of a time remembering/recognizing other people's faces. It may sound odd, but I have a hard time recognizing myself, though. I dunno...

  • Hello, I just wanted to let you know of research being conducted at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities on Prosopagnosia. We are interested, specifically, about how this disorder affects children. You can send us a message or take a look at our website to find out more information!

  • I have aspergers, but to tell you the truth, I actually have REALLY good facial recognition skills, like.. better than most people. I might meet a "normal" person for the first time briefly but never meet them again for like 3-4 years. Then one day I might see them on the street somewhere and say HEY i know you, etc. and they have no idea who i am, :P

  • Ms Mia, My Aspergian Sister person. I live over in gresham and I get that magazine "Busted" You know when criminals get arrested their photos get published, I'd expect that You might have seen it while shopping at a "Quickie Mart". Well I look at it every week and looking through that many different faces in maybe five minutes starts to cause a pain in My brain, like My brain's pissed off that I've accessed it 500 times in five minutes it hurts and gets tired..

    My memory weirdness.

  • @akai454 OMG I have seen that publication. I feel sorry for some of those people, but it's confusing because they chose crime. Addicted to drugs to ease the pain of their lives, or assaulting others because of the pain and hurt inside them, I still feel for them. Anyway, yes. I identify about sensory overload. We are not designed to see that many faces in a day. I used to work at a call center talking to 100+ a day and it caused me a breakdown. It's not natural. Technology results in overload.

  • I find it intriguing how closely her face resembles that of the proposed facial recognition template.

  • I just discovered that my 10 year old son doesn't recognize most of his classmates. He knew a just few of the kids who were very familiar to him but they are also ones that had quite distinctive features.

  • i don't know if this is what is meant by prosopagnosia, but often someone will say hi to me, i'll be looking right at them, but i don't recognize them until they start talking to me.

  • That's one we share my dear. I'm a faceblind aspy also!

Yeah, it sucks, sometimes I don't even recognise my own kids!

  • Its just the way some people are wiered. No one is perfect. Fascinating Though! xxx

  • i remember faces sooooo easy, i sometimes feel like i have a little bit of photographic memory when it comes to faces....but i cant do names what so ever, if its a simple name i might remember but i just cant remember them what so ever. also is it just me or am i the only one who cant remember anything i read..... it could be a simple 4 sentance paragraph but i would have to read it like 5 times befor i could go on to the question that usualy follows after.

  • I have big time prosopagnosia, and so does my boyfriend. As a matter of fact, that's how I learned I was an aspie, when we met and he told me he wouldn't be able to recognize me next time. I went and looked up prosopagnosia and realized I had it, too! We've been dating for over a year and he still won't recognize me out of context if I have my hair back.

  • Like some of the other posts, names are more difficult for me. What I have learned is to recognize a persons energy and core spirit. Remember that sense of smell and heightened sexuality you talked about? You just need to unfilter this "sense" in your subconscious. It's more processing for your brain but much more accurate anyway since faces and bodies change over time.

  • I've got that too, faceblindness. We've got like 25 new peers at work within a short time. Once I sat next to a girl and asked her if she was one of the new ones. She'd been there for five months. Did that twice with the same person. Oops.

When at the hospital I memorize the shoes and jewelry. So many blonde women in white. Name tags too small to read. Horrible.

I'd say I recognize one out of three persons. For me it's probably more a cause of impaired vision than agnosia however.

  • I cannot recognize some

  • Wow I've never heard of that, how fascinating!

  • I'm an aspie and i'm actually great at recognising other peoples faces, even if I haven't seen the person for years I will recognise them. I'm quite bad at names though, I do my best to ever avoid using someones name just in case I make a mistake.

But I can't recognise myself. I'm not sure how common this is with aspies or even nts. In the past i've looked in a mirror and wondered who was standing there. In photos I can only recognise myself from remembering my position when it was taken.

  • oh please don't feel ashamed of it. Just tell them 'I'm face blind, can you remind me who you are'?

  • I can never recgonize faces. I've introduced myself to people only to be told that they live across the hall from me or sit next to me in class.

  • i have the exact oposit! i remember faces so well but never names!

p.s. i think ur videos are great!

  • major problem for me. I can't remember names or faces. What is funny is if they own a dog or cat I will remember the pet and the pet's name. Weird. I don't like looking at people so I'm sure that adds to the problem.

  • dont have this. i have the opposite.

    i have superfacial recognition.

last year i met a girl at the busstop. we went to first grade together(just one year). i instantly recgnised her, now 20 years later.

i do however have name blindness. cant remember names at all. i went to a boardingshcool with 70 kids. I remember 1 name.

  • Happens to me all too often *laughs*

Even if I just about recognise the faces, I cannot remember from where, so I have to ask them again their name and where I last saw them.

It's very embarassing and makes looking for people I know hard work. Sometimes it can get me down quite a lot, especially in making freinds...

  • Yeah with NT's
