How much % cacao is considered healthy chocolate? The highest I found in my local grocery is 86% of cacao. It's a little bitter but I love the taste as I was used to drinking black coffee. Now, just like you, I quit coffee and smoking completely.
@jackrumorz anything above 70% and with zero milk additives is considered "healthy." The higher you go, the more pure and more beneficial, but it's very bitter until you get used to it. Also, as much as possible, get it organic and raw. Roasting the beans before producing the chocolate helps with flavor but does kill a lot the flavanoids. Cooking the finished product (like most major manufacturers) does the same thing without helping flavor. Good on you for quitting smoking!! That is awesome!
Ah, depends on how big the bar is, doesn't it...;-)
I buy the large 3.5 oz size bars and eat it on Thurs/Fri afternoon. I usually can't get thru the whole bar in those 2 days (but have occasionally ;-). I also dip it in almond butter ("Your almond butter is in my chocolate...NO, your chocolate is in my almond butter").
Depends on my activity level (I don't drink tea/coffee, so I really feel the caffeine in DC) and if I'm craving it...which usually means my body wants an antioxidant.
awesome thanks tim! Bleah its taking a little getting used to but im comming to enjoy it haha, the almond or peanubutter dip sounds great, ill give it a try!
I'm glad to see I'm not the only person who discovered the way that dark chocolate helps with weight loss. I like Hershey's Special Dark and have some every day. That was one of the ways I dropped 30 lbs. Thanks for passing along the tip.
People do underestimate its benefits. As long as it's used in conjunction with a diet that works for the person, it is of fantastic benefit. I personally would not use Hershey's, preferring the fair-trade organic, but it was good to hear you chime in with your personal results.
once you get used to dark choc you really cant stand the other over sweet fatty gunky milk -do you have an inversion table?-that really helps with the detox. I was trying to convince a friend to invest in one in the lobby of a hotel and a Dr was overhearing what i was tell this man,, the Dr came over and explained how wonderful this is and how it detoxes the lymph..i had my doubts in the beginning once i was upside down and felt the smell of chlorine come from my mouth,, very cool device Shelly
OK Shelly, I will look into hanging myself upside down, OK?!? I get it, you're BIG on being UPSIDE DOWN for the 2nd time!!
(I'm of course teasing you) ;)
HUGS: (((Shelly)))
I will certainly look more into the idea. Seen it around over the years and if it's helping move lymph fluid, I'm very interested; stubborn area to clear. I have used magnetic pulsing technologies for this in the past with good results. I'm concerned about inversion and brain toxins tho. I'll look into it.
P.S. Seriously, hope ya feel better. You likely caught something that can be tackled readily with oxygenation or specific forms of safe silvers. I have had tremendous success in these areas of never getting sick anymore thanks to these new technologies. They work! In the meantime, I'd take Vit D3, 2000 IU's every three hours for the day to boost the immune response. Works great.
YEAH!!! I love dark chocolate. and milk chocolate ,too.. I want to ..ㅠㅠ,,

(If you are not old enough, you will not recognize the phrase in quotes above. I was being silly for those over 35 who will recognize the phrase).

Nix the p butter, stick to the almond alternative. Too many issues with peanuts for a lot of people.
You will get used to the DC...I didn't like it as a child, now I love it. I do the 85% variety. Potent stuff.

If you want to take advantage of antioxidants in chocolate it needs to be organic, standard chocolate has no antioxidant properties.
