I think he died because of his illness while fighting Sasuke...I'm not sure. xD

he died from a terminal disease. he had one last battle planed against Sasuke where he made Sasuke use up all his chakra so orochimaru could come out.He then killed oro once and for all and died. he was also almost blind and dying in that last battle,so that shows how powerful he was since he was still superior to both Sasuke and Orochimaru even in that state.

@DarkCrono100 I dont think Orochimaru truley died though. For one thing Orochimaru is taking over Kabuto, and also the amount of people who still have curse mark V2, could possibly be taken over by Orochimaru. Itachi only killed the one inside Sasuke therefore saving him. :3
