I love this song, and what it represents. For those who can't figure it out, it's about a person who asks an "Unanswered Question." The woodwinds are the people who mock the person, and the trumpet is the one who asks it. Just like 123C4F said, it's haunting, yet at the same time, magnificent. I needed to look this song up once we were shown it in orchestra class as an example for music in the modern era. Beautiful song.

Trovo in più una purezza e una "apparente" semplicità del flusso sonoro strumentale, in realtà scelto e costruito da Ives con cura meticolosa, proprio come la rifinitura della scrittura, con quel particolare melange del timbro orchestrale, negli addensamenti e nei gruppi ristretti.
