somewhere, an unedited version of these show's exist.. you can tell it's edited because the second solo is exactly the same as the first. A great version of the song that eventually became Red House
Actually, when it came to blues he never used many effects at all. Fuzz and wah. And compared to players today, Jimi could used every effect he had and it was next to nothing compared to today.
That is SUPREME playing. Just absolutely SUPREME blues. It just doesn't get any better than that. You can hear just how much SRV's playing was influenced by Hendrix in this song.
But I have my doubts about this beginnig 1965. When Chas found Jimi, he was very shy about singing and took a lot of coaching. This is a very confident Jimi. Other recordings of the era don't have this kind of tone. This sounds like a jam from 1968. Just my opinion.
@michaeljamsmith Don't believe what they write in books - listen to: "what'd I say" Vinyl MFP5278 with similar random 1965 blues recordings of JH - It shows he could sing well in 1965. Jimi perfected it with Red House. The rest is history.
@rolg3 Not history books, understanding how Jimi inside and out for 40 years of playing guitar. Look for the Axis Experince on YouTube, you will see what I mean.
@michaeljamsmith Pls feel free to believe anything you like. Your comment stated "When Chas found Jimi he was to shy to sing before receiving coaching" The date stated in this video (1965)is corroborated by the dates on the LP I bought in 1970. JH's vocals and guitar tone and the playing style of the band are totally similar to the sound in this video. My 1970 LP also states the live recordings were made in a small New Jersey Club with Curtis Knight. Produced by Ed Chalpin.
@michaeljamsmith Yeah, he hated his singing, but he did sing occasionally before Chas found him. There's another clip, maybe from the same night, where Jimi sings "I'm A Man". Belts out the lyrics and cranks his amp. Don't forget that he sang in the band he was fronting when Chas found him, "The Blue Flames."
Can you imaGINE JH surviving and living on. I can visualize attending small club venues groovin on a 70 year old strat gods' work. If Hendrix was not spoon fed drugs he could experience producing music with SRV and or JW (Check out JW highway 61 revisited live 76..Insane riffs and great timing just like we just heard. . ui
That WAS recorded at George's Club 20 in NJ on Dec-26-1965 with "The Squires"! Here is reunion band (after 45 years) with the original band members, Ace Hall on the bass and and Ditto Edwards on the drums. The reunion band is called "Marino Frost & The Squires." Take a look~ Go to YouTube /MarinoFrost and you can find some videos about it~ Love, MF
The Blue Flame was a very appropriate title for Jimi's band. Just lisen to those lighting fast turnarounds he plays, man. Many do it fast, but never with this much soul. The man had great phrasing, what more can I say?
Albert King also released an album by the same name. It contained a lot of his early music, and I had the chance to discuss it with him before one of his performances in Peoria, IL. Hard to tell how long it's been around.
This song is called California Night aka Mr. Pitiful. It's based on Memphis Slim's "Everyday I have the Blues" but Jimi added extra lyrics. It was recorded Dec. 26, 1965 with Curtis Knight & the Squires at George's Club in Hackensack New Jersey.
Jimi did NOT play like this in 1965. Listen to all the other Curtis Knight audio, this doesn't fit at all. Knight never allowed Jimi to go off like this and control the stage. In 1965 Jimi did not have these riffs, and his voice had not broke out yet. This is a mislabled video. If you want to argue about it, point me to another 1965 audio where Jimi is performing similarly, or any Curtis Knight audio that he allows Jimi to play like this. Thank you.
Wow,are you sure this was 1965? it hit's me as slightly later Jimi.....ah hell, why not '65...you have to remember he busted out with Are you Experienced in 1966,and he didn't suddenly get that good all in one year, so sure...1965! Why of course he was playin the shit out of the blues only the year before man...it's when Chas Chandler said "write some songs" all these ideas Jimi probably had in his head already,he just organized and developed into songs for his first LP!
this was released in England in 1972 on the music for pleasure label! It is jimi on vocals and was recorded at georges club 20 Hackensack new jersey in december 1965
To me, this sounds like a recording made at a later date. I love the old photos but this sounds like a more advanced Hendrix playing. He even uses feedback on some notes. In addition, I never knew that Jimi did any singing that early in his career. He was very shy about his singing. Anyway, whatever it is, it sounds great.
@spyguys Check out get out of my life woman, that's another early one with Hendrix singing, great song too. I think he occassionally sang in Curtis Knight's band;out of all of the previous bands he was in I think Curtis Knight gave Jimi the most artistic freedom.
@moopadoopolus Thanks man. I had not heard that one before. There is something about these Curtis Knight recordings with Jimi that sounds more modern to me. Perhaps it's the echo used on his voice and that his playing sounds way more advanced on this than on other old recordings I've heard. Again he uses feedback here. Do you know the date of this recording?
A Dan Electro, a Supro, a Bronco or musicmaster, an Epiphone Wilshire or Coronet cool to see what he used to play. This is a later recording with Jimi singing.
I hear abit of Buddy Guy and Otis Rush in his playing.I think he is playing with his teeth on this song.I read in a book that he got to sing and play on a few with his teeth in 1965 and 1966.
no it is not listen closely there are many times that the pitch hits points that jimi never hit with his voice if you listen to alot of jim you will understand
@Omariusorous Get a grip!! Any fan, especially someone with a musicl ear, can tell that this is Hendrix singing. There is a certain timbre in the voice which is unmistakable.
