  • There is a New Sealand/Australia greyhound similar to her racing recently. Look up "Swift Fantasy" in YouTube. Though not as fast, you can still see the resemblance. These kind of dogs (and even horses) are a joy to watch.

  • WOW... never seen anytin like that b4, was well impresive... WOW

  • That was awesome. A great trip down memory lane. Thanks for uploading this.

  • Scurlogue was a one-off superstar of the sport whose like will never be seen again. I was lucky enough to see him run at many venues and the speed the dog had down the final back straight was unbelievable - he made the others look like they were standing still. The story is similar to Red Rum's in that it made the trainer, Ken Peckham, a legend as well. The Peckham's loved the dog. RIP The Champ and KP - you are both truely missed.

  • 1 word for this dog "unique"

  • Waow!!! Wonder dog, what a Legend!!!

  • i saw the champ run at hove84 or 85, against "star decision" i think in a two dog race over nine bends, i took me mate along cos i wanted him to see the champ in action, well down the back straight first time and he was the length of the straight behind, me mate says " what,am i ssupposed to be impressed"?... haha i dont need to tell you lot who won do i???

  • scurlogue champ (DUKE) swapped for a cow early in his life then bought by ken peckham, brought over to uk to smash track records all over the country. Duke went on to establish himself as the number one staying performer in the history of the sport. People would travel the length of the country to watch him race he was totally mind blowing, he was sometimes 20 lengths down people in the crowd would say scurlogues tailed off he must be lame then he started his run which was totally devastating

  • Thanks for posting Clarkyben. Loved it!

  • scurlogue champ i am 37 now and saw scurlogue run in the tv trophy at brough park when i was 15 a true superstar his trackcraft was the best i have seen from any greyhound and i have seen alot of races in my life. i talked to his owner ken peckham his love for that dog was unreal i would of loved a greyhound whos father was scurlogue champ but it was not to be a a one off forever R I P scurlogue a true champion.

  • I think i have a brough park video, will have a look and post.

  • i use to go and see scurlogue at wembley he was unbelevable he won so many on the trot i cant remember how many, i see him loose once at wembley in a 4 dog race against bob the champ pulled up lame out of the traps im sure he would have won easy if fit

  • Just because they put my dog into a temp home doesn't mean that they cared. What if they couldn't find a place? They're just interested in finding a dog who they can breed and make money. Have you been to where ex racers are kept? Only for the fact that there are good people there who give up their time to care for the dogs, they'd have nowhere else to go. Owners and bookies love money and not greyhounds.

  • dont talk bollocks so those owners who race there dogs for £60 for a win and about £20 for running are in it for the money then

  • Clarkyben. At the same time, regrettably i am a greyhound racing fan. Only because i grew up watching it. You should be thanked for showing film of such a great dog. I watched Bob at wembley in 1985 as a 14 year old but never saw the great Champ.

  • i race mine and he spends every night on my couch

  • fantastic, but coming down the back streight scurlogue champ looks twice the size of the other dogs, have a look at about 38 seconds onwards, totaly dofferent league to the others a true champion

  • The finest performance by a greyhound ever! Never will we see his like again. Thanks for putting this one up.

  • The greyhound is bred as a hunting dog but also makes a fine pet.If they weren't used for racing, people would have the chance to see this. Most of the dogs racing today will be literally dumped very soon. Some will even be killed, just because they run in lower graded races.

  • While there is BAGS racing that wont happen, the lower the grade the more use they have nowadays. If they banned racing there would be a bigger wellfare issue than there is now, where would all the dogs that are bred go if they couldnt race?

  • Don't talk crap! I have an ex racer called gemsdiamond. She is only alive today due to the fact that her owners put her into a dog's home. She is well looked after by me, but that is only by chance! Many open racers get killed when they can no longer race. I know what i am talking about so enjoy the sport, unfortunately like i do, but admit that it is cruel?

  • Ok how many dogs do you personally know that have been dumped? I dont know of anyone that has ever owned a dog and then dumped it and I certainly have never heard of an open race dog being dumped.

Before you said that most dogs racing today will be dumped but on what are you basing that? As I said I know of no person that has ever dumped their dogs and I've been in the game all my life and owned plenty of dogs myself.

  • The dog you have at home was she yours when she raced?

  • You obviously have no idea about greyhound racing. did you hear about the farmer, in Durham, who admitted to killing and burying atleast 10, 000 dogs on his farm? Many dogs get injured and those who dare not take to racing are instantly killed. When they finish in Ireland, they have nowhere to go, as who wants to feed them? This is a business and nothing else. At the faires, if a dog is too old to sell, they kill it. My dog ran at W'stow and was given to a retirement home at 3 years old.

  • Her owners had to pay 100 pounds. they could have easily put her down and bought another one for 400 pounds. An open racer can bring in a fortune from breeding. You mention that these dogs do not get put down, true, but what about the rest? Read up on how these lovely, but unfortunate dogs are treated.

  • I know how they are treated as I have owned many dogs myself and as I said I have never personally come across anyone who has dumped their dog.

The guy you mention from Durham was pictured with only a couple of greyhounds and the trainer involved was sacked and made a disqualified person.

The farmer admitted to killing dogs but there is no evidence that confirms that they are greyhounds, most were actually pets and strays.

And yes I do have a clue about greyhound racing.

  • I respect your humanity, so i bet you are young and pleasant, but greyhound racing is all about finding a winning greyhound who can be used after they gained a record. look up Patricia's Hope. he won the Derby in '72 and '73. His owner agreed to bring him over for a "veterans" lap at White City in '81. they fell out over payment and he was dumped at Heathrow! Imagine how the rest are treated? My dog was called gemsdiamond and well loved. her original owners couldn't care.

  • I think the original owners did care as they paid for the dog to go into the walthamstow rehoming scheme with the end result being that the dog has a happy place in your home.

As for Patricias Hope I think you'll find the dog wasnt dumped at Heathrow by the owner, he was left at the White City kennels and the GRA transported him to the RSPCA kennels at Heathrow thinking there had been a mix up.

  • I know the real facts and the irish owner threw a wobbly and dumped the dog at Heathrow. He may have then been taken to White City. I read this in a book called the greyhound by a woman-whose name i forget-who grew up with greyhounds. If her info was innaccurate it wouldn't have been printed! Why else would you leave an ex champ behind? He was 10 and unable to make the greedy owner money.

  • What stops me from buying dog after dog until i obtain one that i can use for breeding. Those who don't win i could do whatever i wish with. Who is there to stop me? What do they do to those puppies who don't want to run? They are put down. Where are your ex racers now? In Ireland they don't even have retirement homes for ex racers. 12,000 retire each year but where do they all go?

  • The real facts about Patricias Hope are that it was a mix up. To say that the womans view wouldn't have been published if inaccurate is quite possibly one of the most naive comments I have ever heard. The tabloid newspapers and the press in general regularly publish articles that are inaccurate. Why? - Because it sells and the public love to lap it up. I can tell you the info in that book you read is false! As for my ex racers the ones that retired under my ownership are in homes.

  • As for buying a dog and breeding there is nothing stopping you from doing it but you would have to register to run the dogs on the NGRC. Once registered you would be subject to inspections etc. If you wanted to remain unlicensed and under the radar there is nothing really stopping you doing that, the same way there is nothing stopping you breeding pet dogs. Infact 8000 stray pet dogs are destroyed every year but nobody says anything. Also, how do you know 12000 greyhounds retire each year?

  • it is clear you care passionately about the breed. but without racing the greyhound would become extinct and that would be a tragedy. there are a lot of very caring people in the sport please remember that.

  • Remember Patricia's Hope? Two time derby winner who was dumped at Heathrow airport aged ten by irish owner.Reason-he wanted more money to take him to White City for a champions parade. Check this out.D'you still think greyhound racing is great? Don't give those animals the reason to continue with this barbaric so called sport.

  • The Real World? Just remember all those ex racers, even puppies who don't take to chasing the hare.Basically, any dog who outgrows their main use-making money! Guess what happens to them all? Remember that Durham farmer-hope his family die-who killed then buried over ten thousand greyhounds in his field? Do you still like this sport?

  • Great dog, but it's a shame how they treat the ex racers. They're not dog lovers, they just wanna earn money out of them. I now own an ex Stow racer who "luckily" was sent to a temp home. She was quite thin and very nervous when i got her, but is great now. What would have happened to the Champ if he wasn't so good? Ban bloody dog racing!

  • gemsdiamond.

NO DOG RACING. NO GREYHOUNDS. NO LOVELY PET FOR YOU. GET IN THE REAL WORLD.

  • whats your problem, I do have a lovely Pet thank you!

  • without dog racing there will be even more killed most of the dogs are bred in ireland and sent to britain so without britain which has the most racing lots more that are bred will be put to sleep.

  • Not much to say is there. Best performance i've ever seen.

  • gosh. did that dog have a missile up its arse ?

  • I was there. Totally awesome to see it again after so long!

  • never seen anythin lijke that before, awesome win

  • wow

  • still gives me goose pimples.

  • me 2 mate
