  • Honestly, when it comes to tension, there were parts where the original trilogy failed also. I mean, we all realized quickly that the stormtroopers were completely worthless. The only time the audience was truly worried about the heroes was when Vader was on screen.

  • @RedLetterMedia Rant all you want, but I will not join your crowd ever, you older Star Wars fanboy (but the jokes, however, are incredibly ingenious)!

  • @webcambooksjr It's quite a bit more than a rant.

  • anyone know what documentary the "its so dense" line is from?

  • "shut your fucking face" lol

  • 5:18 - 6:18 That part looks like it's from a Sega CD game.

  • "twin sabre assault mode" ha ha

  • 5:14 might just be the greatest part of any of the prequel reviews.

  • @connerspencern it even has the old nes star wars music!!

  • he needs to review the transfomers movies ^^

  • "It's so dense, every single image has so many things going on"

And yet not one of those things are interesting.

  • Man, I wanna know who keeps leaving those scripts lying around.

  • Why aren't the troopers actual people. Stormtroopers are just people. Then have the Seperatist make clones for terrorism.

  • i agree this movie has too much camera A B talking that was totally pointless

  • Redletter media why don't you do the originals they have a few inconsistentcies.

  • LOL! So that's how they make Pizza Rolls

  • I like the script parts in the review.

  • I want Redlettermedia to review the Transformers movies by Michael Bay.

  • @Mynameis708 OMG, I really wish he would do those.

  • A lot of people would probably call the Michael Bay's Transformers movies as big video games too.

  • "It's so dense..." Shut your fucking face!

  • Heyyyy those videogame effects during the fight don't look familiar. Have they been added since I last watched? Am I going crazy? Did I- oh fuck it.

  • 1:12 he told he laghed out loud. i was like yeah right...

  • I wonder if anyone's noticed at 0:07 that when Plinkett says "Star Wars Episode II proves that George Lucas is truly the master at the art of ruining things", it showed a clip of R2-D2 flying.

  • is it just me, or does this series have the same problem that too many other movie trilogies and book trilogies have? All the cool neat stuff happens off screen between movies?

  • press 3 for the best part of the review XD!

  • The dooku fight part LOL!

  • i cant be the only 1 who thinks that ep 1 was better than 2. cuz at least we spent time with the characters(as crap as they are), had darth maul (yea i know he was a disapointment but hes so fuking cool), does not rely on cgi(even if it does have a lot)

  • what a delight ful video

  • me and my bro are planning on making an action film soon.but im glad i watched this first.know im actully taking action scenes sparingly.and having more bonding scenes with the main charaters

  • Young filmmakers should take note - especially when he talks about creating tension and the things that dissolve it - so many 'action' movies nowadays are boring for the same reasons.

  • What a pointless war, wars are suppose to be terrifying and horrible things, because of whats at stake. Driods Versus Cloned soldiers. no humanity, no stakes

  • Haven't had so much fun watching YouTube in... Forever! Thx!

  • A lot of people who love these movies do not even know the plot inconsistencies of these movies.

  • 0:28 That's the biggest and most obvious lie I've ever heard from anyone.

  • "Did you read the script too? What's that in the sand over there? Is that the script?"

  • if anything good has come from the prequels, it's the music

does anyone know what the track from 6:33 is?

  • 5:25 "Doku's power levels"; and at first I thought that mispronunciation was just supposed to sound funny.

  • @DTaurelion

but we all know what Doku's power level is... over NINE THOUSAND!!!!

    :-P

  • Comment removed

  • this stuff is genius. Points out to me what i knew, somewhere deep down. These reviews are so much more intelligent and compelling and entertaining than the movies are.

  • 5:20 I want this game.

  • Sith Block xD so true

  • worked up with emotion you begin to lose your composure and control. Youexpose your humanity a little. Obi-Wan should've done that, just a bit."

He doesn't mention that Vader and the Emperor had been pushing Luke's buttons for anextended period of time before that, trying to piss him off and tempt him into joining theDark Side. The whole point of that scene wasn't that Luke was just experiencing somenatural anger, but that he was

on the verge of turning evil

    .

  • yay the hooker gets to live! so nice of you. we need more hookers in this world

  • he couldn't hit obi wan because of the plot shield.

  • So according to Rick Berman... SWPrequels = ART?!!!! WTFOMGLMAO

  • This is why kids don't deserve nice things, they always end up fucking things up for the rest of us.

  • wait at 1:35, are those pizza rolls on the assembly line?

  • @MattthePolishActor Damn good eyes! I never noticed that till you said and I've seen this a dozen times.

  • @MattthePolishActor OMG LOL! I never noticed that! Ive seen this review twice lol Thats just awesome.

  • When Luke is hanging upside down in the ice cave and causes to move the light saber a fraction of an inch is a moment that is infinitely more suspenseful and powerful than anything in the shitty prequels.

  • There should be a sell-out of the year award.... and a sell-out of the decade award every... uhm... 10 years. I nominate Mr Lucas.

  • What made A New Hope so good was, among other things, a young Lucas making artistic compromises around every turn. It was a collaborative effort on a scale never before seen(watch the first original trailer where Williams score had yet to be composed). Empire and Jedi were good because they had, again among other things, good directors. The prequels had no artistic compromise, and no direction.

  • This is because how strong of reviews he gives.

  • Anyone who loves these movies is an idiot.

  • Oh, one more thing. As for the senate voting for the clone army, it never came down to it. The vote was to appoint emergency powers to Senator Palpatine so the Republic could respond faster to the Seperatists and the Trade Federation. And immediately after, the Senator commissioned the army. It makes sense lady!

  • The speeder chase is actually possible...

I love Coruscant. I also love closing the doors on people running for an elevator door... but for different reasons. Anyways, I didn't have a problem with processing too much stuff.

As for Yoda starting a war to protect his friends... what's the confusion? The seperatists were building a droid army. What did you want Yoda to do?

Obi-wan wasn't trying to surprise Dooku... and yes, Dooku is a more formitable opponent.

  • @artesque

No it isn't. They fall hundreds of feet and land on vertically static objects, which would immediately kill anyone. And it's not about processing things, it's about sacrificing useful storytelling elements for mindless visual diarrhea which appeals to children and idiots

  • why do you prenouce dooku so differently loool

  • @Mr44centz does it really matter?

  • GO SLOWLY AT THE LEFT

  • the woman is super hot

  • I knew i didnt like the prequels but you have explained to me why i didnt like them.

  • "It's so dense, every single image has so many things going on"

  • AT THE END! How do you do those voices so well?

  • Comment removed

  • @EmeraldIsleStar I'm speaking more on a whole, opinions my very, but from what I have picked up over the years is that this is the general consensus (at least from the people I've talked to).

  • What's that over there? Is that the script?

  • Can someone please tell me what the music is that Mr.Plinkett plays when he changes subjects,e.g. The Big Dumb Ending.

  • I LOL'd so hard at the part with the script thing

  • "all 3 of them died tragedy"

a perfect sum of the prequels

  • TWIN SABER ASSAULT MODE! HHAHHEAEHEEHEAHAEHWWWHWHWUHWHUWAWHUWHU

  • Very true about the Fett/Kenobi starship fight. In ANH, when Vader locked onto someone, you knew that mofo was dead. Lots of tension as Vader slowly acquired a lock onto Luke's ship.

  • It's called suspension of disbelief, your ment to be disconnected from reality. In my opinion the prequels are no better or worse then the original trilogy and the only reason people hate them so much is because people were expecting them to be better and did not get it so they just right wrote them off as being awful, when they aren't.

  • @TheEmoticonMaster It' likely that is a reason why people hate those movies, but I wouldn't say that it was the only reason. Mr Plinkett sums up the other reasons quite well. Every movie can be broken down to at least one minor incosistency in the script, characters etc. but the three prequels have so many inconsistencies and faults that it's ridiculous.

  • @Galentw Even so I don't think their the worst movies ever made, I've seen a lot worse.

  • @TheEmoticonMaster Like... Spiderwick?

  • @TheEmoticonMaster did you not watch the reviews?dude the plot is fucking horrible if its not because of the original trilogy the film would most probably a blockbuster epic fail

  • @Xunited100 I liked them, that's just me.

  • @TheEmoticonMaster, the prequels ARE that bad. Thanks to the dumb storyline, bad wooden acting, hammy dialogue and obnoxious 2-D characters, the audience just couldn't suspend their disbelief or connect with anything they saw. The acting in the original trilogy was not exactly that great either, but the prequel took it down to a new low.

  • @PungiFungi I really don't care, I liked them and thats all that matters.

  • @TheEmoticonMaster , well I commend you on being able to sit through the Phantom Menace more than once. I tried to watch that a second time and just couldn't get past the first 15 minutes without pressing the fast forwarding button!

  • Rick McCallum sold his soul... and the worst part is he knows it and hates himself for it.

  • the best way to make tension work is to avoid anything convenient THING

  • @CommonRaven, I think Lucas actually had very little to do with the original trilogy. Even A New Hope which he is mostly credited for was, apparently, saved by others who completely retooled his original script and edited the hell out of the final product to make it watchable. After that, all the important roles were delegated to people like Lawrence Kasden. I believe this is why the prequels seem to be made by someone who doesn't understand the basic story concepts Star Wars was founded on.

  • GREAT VIDEOS! I LOVE THEM ALL!

  • @Horoquin Dude, chillax. They can do whatever they want.

  • @Horoquin boo on you, these are the funniest things ever!

  • @mattier3030 lol dude, he's saying he wants MORE of this kind of stuff (and less of whatever RedLetterMedia is doing nowadays - I have no idea what that is)

  • 4:05 "Oh Christ I'm referencing the Phantom Menace as a POSITIVE example?!"

    well said

  • "He hits every single molecule around the ship, except the ship!" Sort of a good metaphor for the prequels as well.

  • @NyxSeiren

At least it hits every polygon around the ship!

  • @NyxSeiren Bad guys have a really hard time killing good guys, especially main characters. I mean, they usually get a good hit in early, but after that, good luck. It's not just in the prequels either. I think 1 of the original 3 start out just like this. Their only means of winning is to abort destroying the ship and boarding it instead.

  • @artesque Yeah, that's not really my point, but anyway: A good film-maker usually makes the hitting-the-good-guy hardship a bit less obvious.

  • there's about half an hour per movie of spaceships landing that pisses me off

  • @TheAuthentics I so agree. Spaceships landing, again, and again and again. Or approaching some planet. Again, again and again. Gaah!

  • Thanks - my man! You're a great and amusing critic! And furthermore, YOU'VE GOT IT ALL STUNNINGLY RIGHT!

  • @F10F11hm And am I the only one remembering that obi wan said stormtroopers were precise in a new hope

  • Looks like some Stockholm Syndrome is going on with your lady friend

  • The prequals make me think that everything done in the originals was done out of pure luck. If they had the technology back then, they would of ruined those movies too.

  • @tennispro3782 no doubt, a ton of like medical cures and 'ish were created by accidents n' what not.

  • @tennispro3782 Watch RedLetterMedia's review of Episode One. I think in the last video he explains how Lucas wasn't in total control of the original movies and so he couldn't implement his dumb ideas. In the new episodes though he got to make Star Wars however he wanted and his subordinates were too intimidated to speak up.

  • @tennispro3782 Nicholas Myer, who directed Star Trek 2,4,6 said in the commentary track of 2 that limited resources will make a film maker more creative and come up with ideas that the filmmaker would've been unlikely to think of with unlimited resources. What Lucas had to contend with in the original films was limited technology and budget. Thus he was required to focus much more on the characters and do as much with special effects as was possible for the time. Sigh. The good old days.

  • @351cleavland Actually just 2 and 6, Nimoy did 4

  • @untunedguitar45 Nimoy directed 3. Shatner directed 5 and Robert Wise directed the first movie.

  • @tennispro3782 the reason the originals didn't suck is because of the massive Indo-European mythology that was infused in the scripts. If they used the same mythology for the prequels... it would have been too awesome

  • Comment removed

  • @tennispro3782 It wasn't luck. George Lucas just didn't have total control back then.

  • @tennispro3782 Notice how the only one that George Lucas directed and wrote himself was the first one, and everything that could possibly go wrong went wrong. And yet it turned out better than what anyone could imagine. The other movies were directed by different people, and had other screenwriters involved. But with these prequels, George had total control over EVERYTHING... What's that tell you?

  • @tennispro3782 not really. the good thing about orginals was that lucas did not have too much freedome. or that he was not greedy old ass. there was other people doing the script. and other directors. prequles where not thout out, and they practicaly only done for the money. lucas has the proplem being unable to take critizism. witch is one of the most important things ever. old days he had to take it bechose he was dependet on others, but now. he is total idiot.

  • What's that video game format at 5:20 a reference to?

  • @wayne388 it's making fun of the idea that the prequels feel like video games with as much action and special effects as possible but little story

  • "WHAT'S WRONG WITH YOUR FACE"

  • "What's that in the sand over there... is that the script?"

  • Wow! do I recognize the music from an old Star Wars Atari game?

  • Why did Obi Wan throw Anakin his lightsaber? Is it an advantage to fight with two lightsabers? If so why doesn't everyone bring two? We've seen before that they apparently have enough to bring spares or even let children train with them

  • Oh christ im referencing the Phantm Menace as a positive example??!!

  • also in the final battle at the movie why didnt yoda throw that huge pillar into his ship so he cant leave?

  • the reason that the whole war scene sucked was because it was robots vs clones. There both pretty much made on an assembly line so if one dies who gives a fuck we can just make a million more. This makes the entire battle, war and movie pointless because the only thing at stake is pretty much who can make the most clones and robots the fastest.

  • @110robable i do agree with you so much, atleast in the original saga it was the powerfull evil Empire ruled by nazi like scum against a small group of Rebelians. we wanted the Empire to be destroyed because it was ruling everything and supressing everyone, and we wanted the Rebel fleet to win because it would free the universe. i dont think anybody really cared if the stormtrooper wanabees won or the droids.

  • I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO disappointed in the new Star Wars.. Part 4 and 5 are the Best..

  • 8:00.... Genius.

  • George Lucas watched this 63 times!

  • These prequels proved to me that virtually anybody that wrote a Star Wars book in the last twenty years clearly has a better concept for crafting a story, character development, tension, and interest than that old hack Lucas does now. Case reason I read the books and avoid these movies

  • @TheInstantClassic1 The question is what has happened to Lucas?

  • Love the video game sequence. It made the scene more bearable. :)

  • After the prequels, I may stop watching movies and go back to reading books exclusively.

  • @mawapeak Have to agree

  • twin saber assault mode??? your my hero!!!! :D

  • I always lol hard at "At last, we get to the big dumb ending." I was walking around saying that all day today.

  • 8:00 creepy

  • It's so DENSE - EVERY SINGLE FRAME has so many things going on.

  • Great review... but it is Count Dooku (DUKU) not Doku(Doak-u)

  • @lordtufty Yea, thats the joke

  • every film student needs to watch this review; then maybe we can avoid more crap movies

  • @skadi11R lol im currently writing a script and it's helping me out ALOT

  • The Star Wars prequels look like they could have been made by Michael Bay. Lord of the Rings is such a rich series that much better made than the Star Wars prequels.

  • @Mynameis708 Lord of the Rings has good source material. The prequels were pulled out of George Lucas' ass that created a vacuum that sucked in the noses of followers who I hope many killed themselves out of shame and guilt for not speaking up on how these movies were ruining a loved franchise. Whew.

  • @onexero1 thats deep, i was like "damn" u r soo right

  • Hey they did one thing right about this over the top ending, as a nine year old star wars nerd watching it, it was all I remembered about the movie rather than those love scenes I hate so much!

  • Darth Sidious may have just as well said " ... it appears I have shat myself." At least the film dialogue would have been somewhat entertaining.

  • About Jango having trouble hitting Obi Wan's ship - while I totally agree with all the criticisms and also consider the "new" trilogy crap, this particular point raised is unfair.

The old trilogy is also FULL of such dumb scenes in which Stormtroopers cannot hit the main heroes even when shooting at them from a few metres.

This is a huge fundamental flaw which makes especially Return of the Jedi's final battle barely tolerable to enjoy. The Empire has a huge advantage, but loses. Just dumb.

  • @F10F11hm How about the fact that highly trained military forces such as the stormtroopers were defeated by a bunch of midget bears throwing rocks at them? Under what circumstance does that make sense?

  • @F10F11hm It is never as bad as that scene afterward. That scene is the worst.

  • This bloke is really good lol

  • i still don't understand the story of episode 2. clones vs. robots? what? so random and dumb

  • Atari is going to sue you for using their Game Over sound effect.

  • "George Lucas is truly the master of the art of ruining things."

  • @DaveUndertaker

Lucas was obviously seduced by the dark side, of the film industry.

  • it appears i have shat myself.

  • it appears i have shat myself.

  • "You see it's so dense, it's like--"

    "SHUT YOUR FUCKING FACE!"

  • So many people fail to understand why graphics are wrong when you use them in this way. Well done Plinkett.

  • the "video game jedi fight" part looks a sega cd game.

  • how the fuck do you get those girls to film those serial killer sequences with you?

  • @toSTONEiGO Uh, a lot of guys have female friends that will like do things like act with them in films n stuff if they want. Women are not aliens just so you know. What are you 10 years old?

  • @trenken -_- i dont think of my friends would be willing to put up there diginity like that and act like they are being raped.

  • @toSTONEiGO Who was being raped? What the fuck were you watching? Quit making up bullshit.

  • @LaccaTony

    Anakin and Padme...

  • @LaccaTony Didn't read toSTONEiGO's comment but Shmi Skywalker got raped in the second Episode, or in any case it's kind've implied.

  • @thequickfrowningox toSTONEiGO implied that Nadine was raped, not Shmi. Neither Nadine or Shmi was raped nor was it implied. Quit talking out of your ass and making up bullshit.

  • the reason the original movies have more tension than the prequels is cause we already know whats gonna happen in the prequels.

  • @ScoTTishN1NJA Yes and because I know how Romeo and Juliet will end there is no tension. Oh and Othello, yep no tension at all whatsoever. Knowing the end doesn't ruin tension, shitty screen writing and bad camera work ruin tension.

  • @ScoTTishN1NJA lol @ your user name

  • @ScoTTishN1NJA wrong. fail.
