  • One of the greatest scenes in all of opera.

  • The vertiginous tones are plied to achieve a very intense finale.

  • Alexander strikes the perfect balance of pathos and strength that this role requires. Heartbreaking! The entire cast is superb. The production, excellent. One of the best Jenufas ever.

  • Janacek´s music is excellent as usually. Silja is very very good. Roberta Alexander should pronounce the text better, she swallows many syllables. But she is also good. The scene is imposant including the destroying of the furniture etc. it has a deep meaning. The direction (production) is magnific.

  • Very powerful! Now I want to see the whole thing... and what vocies!

I haven't known Alexander before, and she sounds great. Also, Silja and Lagridge... what a cast!

  • Jenufa is not immediately melody-inducing as are some Verdi and Puccini operas...just listen a few times...it is mind-blowing, as is Kat'a Kabanova. This performance is sensational, Also check out Astrid Varnay's performance, on youtube.

  • @robin678 to tell the truth, I discovered Janacek at the age of 48. And since that I do not want to hear anything else. The music is .... I cannot express, I lack words. Imagine that he composed Jenufa in about 1906, if I am not mistaken. Verdi Pucini, Strauss, Smetana, Dvorak - boring when you hear Janacek. No one can come close to Janacek. i can heardly breathe when listening to Jeji pastorkyna - Jenufa.

  • SENSATIONAL!!!

  • Silja is WONDERFUL - i saw her as Marie in Wozzek once - superb
