@Errathetube Mine only reached 74°C when OC'd to 950/1400 with custom fan settings. The fan wasn't even at 50% and was barely noticeable. The only reason why you would overclock is because of bottlenecking. If you got a GTX 590 with a core i3 processor (example) you're not getting anywhere so you'd have to overclock it (if it was a core i3) by quite a lot. Damn I love explaining things :D
Hey guys, sorry I haven't been responding to your comments. This video is really old, and there are much better ways to overclock this card. I have managed a stable core overclock of 1Ghz using MSI Afterburner. There are many forums on google where you can check out how to do this, depending on your cards capabilities, you can reach this 1Ghz. Some may be able to do it, some won't be able to. It's just a matter of luck tbh.
@RibaFish66 Overcloking your graphics card will make your gaming performance increase, thus giving you higher FPS. Which is the whole point in overclocking.
@RibaFish66 Maybe if your grammar was better, I would understand what you were saying. I interpreted it as "Didn't notice that the FPS is higher on maximum clock settings". As in you didn't know that if you increased the clocks, you would get higher FPS. Well this isn't exactly a high end card, I wouldn't even consider it mid-range. So overclocking the clocks won't make much difference especially running Crysis everything maxed out!
@RibaFish66 That's okay, no problems. I am waiting for the next series of graphics cards to come out. The Nvidia 600 series. They are running the 28nm process, whereas current GPU's are running the 42nm process. This will allow nearly twice the amount of cores to fit on the graphics card, making it almost twice as fast as current graphics cards are today. If your planning on getting a new graphics card, I would wait for them to come out! Also don't go AMD, go Nvidia! :)
@bassatcollege Dont go AMD ha?And i was about to ask should i buy another 5770 cause i have enough money in this moment and put in crossfire or like you said spare some money and go Nvidia?
@RibaFish66 Haha it's so not worth getting another one of these cards. Just wait until the new series of cards comes out, and get an Nvidia card! They will be so much better!
@Madmaxzy18 Is your graphics card enclosed in plastic or not? Those are some very nice temps there. Mine atm is sitting at around 38C, but thats because mines enclosed in plastic.
@bassatcollege It has some plastic around the fan, but the air can blow out into the system, it's not totally directed out the back, but that kinda gets to me but oh well.
I have a Sapphire Radeon HD 5770, and it's the version that has a black fan, and not totally enclosed.
@jariguy You must have another program open that is affecting these changes to the clocks. Try closing all your other programs such as fan speed control etc.
@rabinzx I did stress testing with folding@home. That tests your graphics card at 100% load. The same will happen with the "test custom clocks". Mine is stable.
As far as I can go is GPU clock 955mhz, memory clock 1410mhz.
If I go 960/1420 (according your 15/30 rate), or 960/1445 the card stop working. maybe because mine is HIS HD5770 ( I know they later have the iceq version, mine is the old one)
@rabinzx Some cards work, some don't. Mine is a factory overclocked version so it's probably pumping out a higher stock voltage. Download MSI Afterburner; you can change the voltages there.
@SvenskPersonn It increases the clocks of whatever device you're overclocking. It will increase or decrease the performance depending on stability. Normally it increases performance though
@SvenskPersonn Overclocking increases the frequencies AKA clocks of your hardware. This increases the performance of this hardware, in this case a graphics card, which gives it more frames per second, allowing smoother gameplay.
@TheKnightSolaris the memory wont fry if you dont overclock it.. the video says "check the temp of your GPU, and make sure you are not over 65C". The softwares are displaying GPU(core) temp. not memory. All i say is that GPU can SURE take over 65C, even 80 or 90C. If you overclock your GPU and increase voltage, there is another thing to cool - vrm, the voltage regulators...but thats another thing
@TazeuX I agree. Graphics cards can take well over than the 65C that I stated; I was just using this as a safety margin so that people don't go over what I say and fry their card.
@gen2sega 75 furmark is ok. That is not high enough to do damage, and you will never get that high temps with games, furmark just pushes it. I would advise you to think about improving the airflow in your case though.
@MaxAmadeusW You probably have poor airflow in your case, or your graphics card is full of dust. If it is an enclosed unit, I would take it apart and clean it. Warning, this may void your warranty!
Well i have HD5770 and default clocks for it are GPU: 850MHz | Memory: 1200MHz. When i open up my CCC and go to Overdrive it says Current values: GPU: 400MHz | Memory: 900MHz . This is even lower than default clocks and when i try to overlock them to 960 and 1400 the current values are still 400 and 900 WHY ?
@Gizmo2k5 thank you ;) But if i go to a game like Crysis 2 and minimize the game will clocks be as i overclocked them ? or when you minimize a 3D app your clock will be optimized for save power ?
@hybrid1221 I'm not sure on that - it might realise that you aren't focused on a 3D game and bump them back down, if your card was running at 400mhz it would be pretty slow :)
@theillmc Most likely the card will crash if it's set to make changes as soon as the slider is moved. I did this just yesterday with an old X800GT using ATITool and my screen went white and my whole computer froze up. It didn't cause any permanent damage to the card, but I wouldn't do it again anyway.
no accually if you look up the specs of the grafics card it can handle temps of up to 105C when it hits that temp then it starts to underclock to bring temp down. and if that doesn't work it just shuts off your computer no warning just POW shuts down.
i just cranked mine all the way up, tested it n said it was good. card stays below 55 at full load and i do notice a little bit of fps boost or its easier to run games with better settings. good airflow ftw i do suppose
ok so if i put my core clock past 940 and mem clock at 1445 at 1.3v it is unstable but i hear people getting 1050 on core and 1445 on mem with only 1.275v how the hell do they do it and why is my card soo unstable on such high voltage even if i turn voltage down its unstable so its not the voltage that is messing me up. PLZ help!
@pratikharshe Mine is currently sitting on 53-57C so thats pretty normal, especially with it starting to become summer now. However you probably have dust accumulated in your heatsink on your graphics card. Mine use to idle on like 60/70C and when I cleaned it, it dropped to 30/40C :)
@bassatcollege I have no idea about silver bronze or gold rating but i put settings on max ( 960 + 1445 ) and it passed the test this is good yea? but it will shorten my card life if i set it to this/??? and also my fan speed is set to 50% as that is what ccc came with if i want to max my card should i set fan to 100%?
@POHWGAS I found out why :) I had a bit clunk of dust covering the heatsink on my gpu... which was disturbing and even blocking airflow! Clean it and I'm getting same temps as u! :p
I have one quick question, is it ok to run the fan 100% all the time? Or just playing games? GPU clock for me is at 820MHZ and high performance memory clock settings is set to 1310MHZ.
@darthcriddle It will sound very unpleasant, but it should be okay to run it at that speed. But will most probably wear the bearings much quicker. Is your graphics card too hot?
when I overclock my HD5770 Vapor-X to 875MHz / 1230, first it runs on max speed but after 8 minutes it runs at 400MHz / 900MHz :( my max temp is 55 C after 9 minutes. How can it run at 400MHz/ 900MHz well testing in furmark?
@DJbuzzi That is power saving mode. When your not using your graphics card it drops its clocks. And when you use it again, it "overclocks" back to the original speed.
I know, but it was 400MHz when running Furmark (stress test). But now I use MSI Afterburner and that works better. MSI Afterburner allows me also to overclock to 1000MHz instead of 960MHz.
I DOWNLOADED CPUz TO FIND OUT ABOUT MY PROCESSOR TO SEE IF ITS OVERCLOCKED AND IT ONLY TOLD ME WHAT I HAVE. I7 980X 3.33 GHz. IS THERE A WAY I CAN FIND OUT IF MY PROCESSOR HAS BEEN OVERCLOCKED?? PLEASE HELP.
Mate that's the default setting, so can tell you thst it's not. Overclocking takes time, so if you don't want to read those long guides - don't do it. Especially as your CPU is hell expesnvie one.
@dontcopy13 what do you mean? how can i know if it has been overclocked? I downloaded many programs like cpu-z, and it still doesnt tell me the overclocked part. But in the bios, it says its set at 4.29mhz which is overclocked.
@uphill248 Use google, or check your cpu product box and check the standard clock speed for the processor. Now if this standard speed is different to the one that cpu-z tells you then it has been overclocked. Pretty simple tbh.
o.o dude my asus eah 5770 cucore runs at about 75 C on defualt setting. It even hits 80 C sometimes. Im using a god damn coolermaster HAF X. This cant be right
hi, i have vapor x card 5770. but everytime i use full load of the card. and play games, it hangs and i have to reset. do i have any problmes with the voltage?
Oh and btw, auto tune is much easier, althrough it is bad to overclock without a cooling system. My screen kept go brown after an hour with the reccomended verclocking with autotune and even just bit overclocked it went brown after a few hours.
I have an MSI 5770 (hawk) and the MSI has an own overcloking program and driver for the card, but should I still download ATI Catalyst from the ATI's website??
@lipeterli Ye well it didn't made noise in start. But if it suddently dropped to 20 % for some reason, I made it 100 % again and then unchecked the box saying "enable manual fan control", and then restarted my PC.
The CCC is dumby proof whatever it allows you to go to is a safe overclock. That's why you use something like RivaTuner or MSI Afterburner to really push your graphics card.
There's nothing wrong with that. Just untick the manual control and select apply. Or set the speed to 50%. The original is 35% and 50 to 70% speed is best for temperature to noise ratio. Especially if you have 5 case fans excluding CPU and PSU fans :D
yo dude i do all of this but when i go to play a game the GPU clock settings only go to 500MHz insted of what i am setting it to do you no whay this is? o and when i have played games they sometimes freez now a black screen comes up and i have to turn of my PC
yo dude i need some help with overclockin this GPU i have set it to run 940MHz by 1410MHz and put the fan speed to 100% i apply thise settings but when i go back into a game of crysis and bring up the ATI menu it says that its still only running at 500MHz even after i tell it to run around 900. i have a 600W PSU and 4gig of ram on windows vista and my motherbord is around 2.33 clockspeed have you got any idea why this is?
Awesome video!! Only thing is that gpu's can go higher than 65C. In fact they are capable of running at hight temps than cpu's. But, the cooler the better. :) I'm getting my 5770 next week. can't wait
@bassatcollege 65 Degrees is NOT a danger zone for GPUs in general, and CERTAINLY not for the Evergreen chips. Look at the drivers. They're spec'd to start raising the fan speed significanly only in the mid-80s C. It won't even throttle unless it hits 90 C. Misinformation isn't helping anyone.
Is it safe to overclock my 5770 with a cheap PSU 460w? Settings are currently 850/1200. I want to overclock it so i can get a better performance. So is it worth it? Also what is the maximum temperature that i can get?
very cool review tho the max temp is rather wrong, 5770 can stand t o 90c no problem but 105 is the max temp of the card and this max temperture depends on what brand i have seen xfx xxx go for 95c oc no problem. Also you need to consider not in every place you will get the same temperture as for me im in puerto rico and with this tropical climate im running 53c idle 74 underload.
Whoah, you put the clocks from default all the way to maxed? WOnt that like break your card? Or does it actually work if you put fan speed all the way to 100? also when i test custom clocks it shows a bunch of colors, do I let it sit? Cuz it seemed to never end even after like 5 minutes. Please reply!
Should the fan always be at 100%? I run mine at 35% with a clock speed of 950Mhz and a memory speed of 1235Mhz; and at idle it runs at 40c. Is this good? Also, I have a 530w PSU; do you think there would be much headroom left for safe overclocking?
where can I download this software.. when they (bestbuy) installed the 5770 CCC wouldn't start, so I downloaded 10.6 and it's shit. anyone know where I can get ati overdrive ?
ALL THE PEOPLE THAT ARE SO SCARED OR THE BIG NUMBERS ON TEMPERATURE:
Its not its real temp , because u might have a fan from cpu or something that pushes hot air into gpu and because of that sensor detects very hight heat on gpu.
I have air pushing into gpu from north brige.
also i had really low temp when i had still stock paste on it ,but i added ram heatsinks to it and i kinda messed up with paste where the gpu is so thats why now i get hight temps.but in reality they are not hight temps!
@dustykid23 The 5770 GPU changes speed depending on it's load- When looking at 2d basic images, surfing the web, or small windows tasks- The GPU will clock itself down to 400/1200-
Run somthing like a game/video stress test and you will see the clock go up ;)
HI, I really apresiate this help you give to all of us (novices overclockers!)
Today i install ATI Sapphire HD5770 Vapor-X and want to know how to take advantage over his overdrive capabilities.
If you have more to say... Im usng a Power REAL:750W(80%) , Quad-Core Q6600, 2GB RAM DDR3 1066 and a Intel DX38BT board (special for gamers, but i just use the normal settings).
XFX ATI HD 5770 XXX (Stock Overclocked: 875Mhz, 1300Mhz)
I have overclocked my graphics card using MSI Afterburner to 1000Mhz GPU Clock, and 1400Mhz Memory Clock, with a voltage of 1.200V and Automatic Fan Speed. I recommend using FurMark to test and see if your graphics card is stable, this will test it at full load so you may get high temperatures so make sure it has enough cooling.
I have recently found a new way to Overclock your graphics card. The software is called "MSI Afterburn" I have reached a stable overclock of 1Ghz core clock and 1400mhz memory clock, if you are a novice of overclocking i suggest you stick with the Catalyst Control Centre.
@bassatcollege btw i haven't got any freezing while gaming or anything like a blue screen i even overclocked at 900/1400 no freezing nothing..what do you think?
wait you didnt increased the voltage plz tell me i really need to know ????????

@pratikharshe Mine is currently sitting on 53-57C so thats pretty normal, especially with it starting to become summer now. However you probably have dust accumulated in your heatsink on your graphics card. Mine use to idle on like 60/70C and when I cleaned it, it dropped to 30/40C :)

Hi there thx for vid! if i put graphics card on max would my computer be able to handle it ----
Intel i5 2500 @ 3.6GHz 4GB Ram 700Watts power supply Liquid cooling ph-67 gigabyte motherboard and of course normal ati radeon 5770
JaredzzC 10 months ago
@JaredzzC Depends on who made your power supply, If its a decent brand such as Corsair or Antec, etc, then it should be plenty.
bassatcollege 10 months ago
@bassatcollege Um, my brand is Win Power :S is it good enough?
JaredzzC 10 months ago
@JaredzzC Never heard of them tbh lol. Is a Bronze Silver or Gold rated power supply?
bassatcollege 10 months ago
This has been flagged as spam show
@bassatcollege I have no idea about silver bronze or gold rating but i put settings on max ( 960 + 1445 ) and it passed the test this is good yea? but it will shorten my card life if i set it to this/??? and also my fan speed is set to 50% as that is what ccc came with if i want to max my card should i set fan to 100%?

i overclocked extra to 960 and 1360 :) Still stabel and temp. is 25 - 35
:p
POHWGAS 10 months ago
@POHWGAS I found out why :) I had a bit clunk of dust covering the heatsink on my gpu... which was disturbing and even blocking airflow! Clean it and I'm getting same temps as u! :p
bassatcollege 10 months ago
@bassatcollege :) i just found same XD now my temp is 13 - 16 and 20 on heavy games

simpleirfan19 11 months ago
I have one quick question, is it ok to run the fan 100% all the time? Or just playing games? GPU clock for me is at 820MHZ and high performance memory clock settings is set to 1310MHZ.
darthcriddle 11 months ago
@darthcriddle It will sound very unpleasant, but it should be okay to run it at that speed. But will most probably wear the bearings much quicker. Is your graphics card too hot?
bassatcollege 10 months ago
when I overclock my HD5770 Vapor-X to 875MHz / 1230, first it runs on max speed but after 8 minutes it runs at 400MHz / 900MHz :( my max temp is 55 C after 9 minutes. How can it run at 400MHz/ 900MHz well testing in furmark?
DJbuzzi 11 months ago
@DJbuzzi That is power saving mode. When your not using your graphics card it drops its clocks. And when you use it again, it "overclocks" back to the original speed.
bassatcollege 10 months ago
@bassatcollege
I know, but it was 400MHz when running Furmark (stress test). But now I use MSI Afterburner and that works better. MSI Afterburner allows me also to overclock to 1000MHz instead of 960MHz.
DJbuzzi 10 months ago
you are wrong...xfx 5770 can reach 70degrees and it will be okay, on the load of course
valentass88 1 year ago
@valentass88 Mine reached 100C at one point ^.^
However I cleaned the heatsink, because there was a big clunk of dust there, and now its much cooler :)

I DOWNLOADED CPUz TO FIND OUT ABOUT MY PROCESSOR TO SEE IF ITS OVERCLOCKED AND IT ONLY TOLD ME WHAT I HAVE. I7 980X 3.33 GHz. IS THERE A WAY I CAN FIND OUT IF MY PROCESSOR HAS BEEN OVERCLOCKED?? PLEASE HELP.
uphill248 1 year ago
@uphill248
Mate that's the default setting, so can tell you thst it's not. Overclocking takes time, so if you don't want to read those long guides - don't do it. Especially as your CPU is hell expesnvie one.
Hokrollo1 1 year ago
@uphill248
overclock it
odin2free 1 year ago
@uphill248 Troll, if you have that proccessor you would know if it's been overclocked.
dontcopy13 11 months ago
@dontcopy13 what do you mean? how can i know if it has been overclocked? I downloaded many programs like cpu-z, and it still doesnt tell me the overclocked part. But in the bios, it says its set at 4.29mhz which is overclocked.
uphill248 11 months ago
@uphill248 If it does say that in the BIOS then it is Overclocked, and quite a big overclock at that. Hope you have a good CPU cooler.
dontcopy13 11 months ago
@uphill248 Also the stock speed for that proccessor is 3.33Ghz
dontcopy13 11 months ago
@uphill248 Use google, or check your cpu product box and check the standard clock speed for the processor. Now if this standard speed is different to the one that cpu-z tells you then it has been overclocked. Pretty simple tbh.

please help with tht.

vgvgvg7412 1 year ago
The CCC is dumby proof whatever it allows you to go to is a safe overclock. That's why you use something like RivaTuner or MSI Afterburner to really push your graphics card.
kevinsdb1 1 year ago
DONT, I REPEAT DONT TUCH MANUAL FAN CONTROL, IT MAKES YOUR COMPUTER SOUND LIKE A JET ENGINE.
TheLowrid3r 1 year ago
@TheLowrid3r
There's nothing wrong with that. Just untick the manual control and select apply. Or set the speed to 50%. The original is 35% and 50 to 70% speed is best for temperature to noise ratio. Especially if you have 5 case fans excluding CPU and PSU fans :D

Awesome video!! Only thing is that gpu's can go higher than 65C. In fact they are capable of running at hight temps than cpu's. But, the cooler the better. :) I'm getting my 5770 next week. can't wait
Agent6415 1 year ago
@PcHelp4 If you're reading 33 degrees at load, it's safe to say that your GPUs thermal sensors are bunk. Or you live in an igloo.
pursuinginsanity 1 year ago
@bassatcollege 65 Degrees is NOT a danger zone for GPUs in general, and CERTAINLY not for the Evergreen chips. Look at the drivers. They're spec'd to start raising the fan speed significanly only in the mid-80s C. It won't even throttle unless it hits 90 C. Misinformation isn't helping anyone.
pursuinginsanity 1 year ago
Hi,
Is it safe to overclock my 5770 with a cheap PSU 460w? Settings are currently 850/1200. I want to overclock it so i can get a better performance. So is it worth it? Also what is the maximum temperature that i can get?

ur 1 is like 50 degrees with 100% fans
I have overclocked it to its full potential and have my fans at 50%
and yet still get 32-33 degrees lol
is that good?

very cool review tho the max temp is rather wrong, 5770 can stand t o 90c no problem but 105 is the max temp of the card and this max temperture depends on what brand i have seen xfx xxx go for 95c oc no problem.

Please reply!
jackpwnage117 1 year ago
Should the fan always be at 100%? I run mine at 35% with a clock speed of 950Mhz and a memory speed of 1235Mhz; and at idle it runs at 40c. Is this good? Also, I have a 530w PSU; do you think there would be much headroom left for safe overclocking?

ALL THE PEOPLE THAT ARE SO SCARED OR THE BIG NUMBERS ON TEMPERATURE:
Its not its real temp , because u might have a fan from cpu or something that pushes hot air into gpu and because of that sensor detects very hight heat on gpu.
I have air pushing into gpu from north brige.
also i had really low temp when i had still stock paste on it ,but i added ram heatsinks to it and i kinda messed up with paste where the gpu is so thats why now i get hight temps.but in reality they are not hight temps!

hey man how come my gpu wont go past 400 when it is clocked at lkike 945
dustykid23 1 year ago

God blessyou :D
elbeto57 1 year ago
@elbeto57 My specs:
AMD Phenom II 550 BE
2GB DDR2 533Mhz
Corsair TX 650W
ASROCK K10N78M
XFX ATI HD 5770 XXX (Stock Overclocked: 875Mhz, 1300Mhz)
I have overclocked my graphics card using MSI Afterburner to 1000Mhz GPU Clock, and 1400Mhz Memory Clock, with a voltage of 1.200V and Automatic Fan Speed. I recommend using FurMark to test and see if your graphics card is stable, this will test it at full load so you may get high temperatures so make sure it has enough cooling.
bassatcollege 1 year ago
@bassatcollege how did you get that out of msi? I used msi and i have gigabyte 5770 and it won't let me past 960mhz clock speed?
MrMickle28 10 months ago
I have recently found a new way to Overclock your graphics card. The software is called "MSI Afterburn" I have reached a stable overclock of 1Ghz core clock and 1400mhz memory clock, if you are a novice of overclocking i suggest you stick with the Catalyst Control Centre.
