What are you on about...this thing works on air? Did you know that sharks scan for the small amounts of electric energy impulses (signatures) in their prey, before there is any blood! The same way, they will bite into a hair drier, dropped into sea, and lets face it...if a dead hair drier has enough of the electrical signature for a shark to pick up, imagine what an operational unit, like the one in the clip, emits...scanners are also more sensitive than sharks

So, if that were possible we could just "scan" and area for IED's and regular land mines. And the fact is A) we still can't detect mines and IEDs. B) Even if we could, people would probably set EM decoys the same way we do for aircraft and tanks. And finally C) tanks are lot easier to detect than mines, so they would get detected first. These things are passive, and unless they emit a signal, it has all the EM signature of a toaster.

peterene you're not thinking about who you're fighting it with... plus EMP is expensive & to use it you can't have any other electronics in the blast radius or that would get fried too... it's genius because say one fires then you organise an EMP into the area, it's time wasted on the enemies part anyway so you don't completely lose out. it's the element of surprise that makes it great.
