Oh, heavens I used to visit that store in 1992, seeing the video was a flashback, now, 17 years later, here in Mexico, I'll never see the likes of it again, sorry for the loss of Woolie's.
I can't believe he told you off for filming!, like it was going to matter to him on the last day. I got a similar snappy self-righteous telling off from management/administrators on the final day in my local woolies after asking if i could buy some of the display signs, but it was ok to advertise a battered plastic orange chair on the shop floor for a fiver, hmm...
As of today (21/05/2009) the old shop is still empty, the doors and windows not covered up so you can see into the old store. The "Please pay here" counters and some shelving still remain in place.
Good Riddance Woolworths! for so many years you have cluttered up Broad Street. The attitude of your (now ex) staff stinks! The only reason I ever went into this woolworths was because I was given vouchers for the shop. Cant wait till iceland opens!
How do you know that the staff didn't mind? or are you just complaining on their behalf. Get a life he was filming this for posterity. This country is full of twats like you complaining about anything.
It was a damn cheek being told you couldn't film, as all shops film us when we go in. This is a hisorically important time for Woolworths and should be recorded.
It is amazing that the shop has gone just a few months after having such top stars in.
Yes Brian McFadden (ex-Westlife) popped in sometime in 2006/2007 (can't remember exactly) and of course as shown in my clip McFly and Sir Cliff (with Maggie Philbin) last year.
You did the right think in filming the final day! I filmed the last day at my local store too (on my channel) but was very discreet. If you look at the other reposnes to my vid most staff didn;t care on the last day, a lot were dancing and racing round in trollies.
The police killed woolworths!!!

How the Reading Woolworths store (Broad Street entrance) used to look:

These photos are before it was rebuilt after a fire in the early 90's to what can be seen in this clip.

Has it been confirmed that Iceland are moving into the old Woolworths in Broad Street? I don't want it to be yet another Tesco store.

By the way my last comment was aimed at Linziwoodburn1 whose account seems to have been closed. Shame she won't see my reply.
