just 1! syrian hamsters fight if they r n the same cage! im not to sure about other hamsters! if u get 2! buy 2 cages with like 1 of those hamster tubes that connect to each other so they can vistit! try getting a girl and a boy! so they can mate! just ask the ppl for a girl and a boy! but most stores has boys!! good luck! plus u can take the hamster babies and sell them to a pet store! i wouldnt cuz i love hamsters!!!

LOL Syrians live alone so you can get one! Sometimes the babies are nervous and get wet tail. Hopefully you can adopt one when it's around six weeks old (or older) so that it will be more relaxed about moving to its new home. Adults can get stressed out too but are less likely to be.

Well if you are still on the deciding factor:

All the hamster races can live on their own, but only the dwarf hamsters can live with another dwarf hamster/s and usually only with another member of it's sex, unless you want hamster babies :D.

Other races won't live with a another hamster, usually fighting to the death.

Oh and hamsters usually get wet tail from some sort of an bacterial infection. So unless you keep the cage extremely dirty, you should be fine.

@teddeeboo my hamster had wet tail and i only had him 4 a day it is caused by stress but they get so stressed hat they wont drink so they become dehydrated what the store told me to do was to give them strawberry jam, strawberry yogurt and applesauce mixed together therefore the scent draws them to it and they'll eat that but after they calm down then they'll drink water

Wet tail is a common disease among Syrian hamsters - especially baby hamsters who are often moved around and easily suffer from stress. They get severe diarrhoea and become dehydrated and are difficult to treat once symptoms appear. Trouble is, wet tail is also very contagious to other hamsters, so all their stuff needs to be disinfected before coming in contact with other hamsters!

We took care of him very well.

We had to clean his cage every day and make sure he had fresh water and food. We didn't hold him or anything because i heard it made it worse.

Aww yeah, freezing seems like such a deep instinct for rodents. Hamsters especially spend a lot of time standing up and just listening! They seem so alert and it makes you wonder what information they're absorbing doesn't it? They're so cute when they're listening!
