and I was right. He was talking about the Iowa supreme court ruling against gay marriage. He was saying that he thinks gay marriage is a way of attacking churches(and considering that several pre-gay marriage groups have invaded churches in the past it's not that far off) and how you have to start teaching it in schools now. His statement wasn't about just gay marriage in general. It was about the supreme court case.

Rush is always the worst person in the world. He was being sarcastic (as usual). He'll never give Obama credit for anything. That's his job, he is paid hundreds of millions of dollars to try to demonize democrats. Fact is, Obama gave the authorization for the snipers to shoot to kill those pirates. He handled that situation just fine and our guy is home safe and sound. Bush would have invaded France or something. He mishandled the war on terror, God know how he would have handled pirates.

I disagree. Bush led us and congress by any means necessary. He owned 2 wars and deregulated wall street. I emphasize this because he did nothing his last year. No reaction to changing conditions. Gen Petraeus went way out on a limb to change Iraq strategy. Break apart congressional approval by party. Surprise!

I utterly disagree that a six-year-old would have decided to send in the Seals. I think it would take a thirteen-year-old who has already been indoctrinated into a world of dehumanization, murder, and unthinking violence.

Recall that the local tribal leaders in Somalia offered to arrange for the captain to be handed over to the Americans unharmed if the Americans, in return, offered no violence against the captors.

The USA refused and, instead, killed people and risked the captain's life.

An adult should recognize that the right thing to do would have been to accept the captain back peacefully, as offered, rather than risk his life and kill those Somali people.

Instead, they had to play the bully and show that they are ruthless killers with less intereset in the safety of Americans than in projecting an image of intolerance and trying to bolster fear (leading, naturally, to resentment and hatred).

Check again. They were willing to give him up unharmed ang go one with their own lives. Nobody had to die and this captain did not have to be put in harm's way so that the USA could act tough.

It's not a game when people die. We had the option of not doing it and everyone leaving safely and took the less honorable, less civilized path.

It wasn't the government, but the tribal leaders who offered the deal.  The Somalis with the captain were on a small boat surrounded by US forces. They offered to let him go if they could be assured safety.

I think you misunderstand the situation. These three guys were on a small boat with the captain. The rest of the crew was long gone.

It was absolutely possible to get the captain back without killing anyone or returning the "favor" of kidnapping. The USA chose the destructive way out.
