I have a 94 flareside with the 5.0L v8 that I'm getting fixed up (was my fathers) it is the 2wd... how should I modify it? What extra stuff should I do to it? Would a lift be nice although its 2wd?

@gottadosumtinstupid it is compleetly up to you but i personally would modify it. a body lift would look nice and aloww you to run bigger wheels and tires a susprntion lift is pointless un less yuo are going mudding every other day. if you would like better fuel economy do a k&n cold air intake and some form of aftermarkedt exsaust system.

@1979pete359 I love the 302 also. Not enough to swap it in place of my 300. It doesn't make that much more power. If my truck came with the 302 I'd be happy with it like I am my 300. If I go through the work of a motor swap though it would be a 351 - or a 6BT Cummins, ideally.

@PhatsoJuggalo806 For the most part they do. Most of Ford's motors do. Even the big blocks seem to see 150 and 200K miles regularly. I think 300's have a long life rep because they are harder to kill than an average engine as far as abuse goes. But for average maintance it doesn't last much longer than any other engine!

its a matter of obtaining a transfer case, new driveshafts front and rear, and the d44 up front or whatever you chose i guess

I have a flowmaster but don't care for it. It only sounds good at WOT, or under load. If i could re-do it all I'd just use a short glass pack. Thanks for the comment!

I know what a prerunner is marffy30. I'm not trying to be a prerunner. I doubt my 15 year old, 214,000 mile truck could actually race off road. I love the look of 4WD's. My truck already has a powertrax locker. She'll eat a little mud. I proved that the other day. Thanks for the positive comments but I wanted to make it clear I'm not trying to pose as anything. I just love the look.

I already lifted it. I get 18 MPG highway if I keep it in OD and my foot out of it. The pro's all use 2wd's for off roading racing; never heard of prerunners? LOL. How is a mere 3'' lift going to make it slower?

Which transmission do you have? if it's the E4OD, have it rebuilt with a shift kit. The starter and alternator are just things you have to put up with with an old truck. Thanks for the comment. I hope you fix up your truck!

i am looking to buy a 4x4 f150 and do you think that the 300 has enough balls to handle 35x12.50 tires? not only off road but would it still be drivable?

I've never ran anything larger than 31's. From what other guys who run 35's with their I6's, they claim to have decent power. I wouldn't shy away from the vehicle if it's a good deal. You'll just need to re-gear the truck for the larger tires.

I have a 93 Flareside with a 302 and a 5 speed transmisson. It has 405,000k and it runs like a dream! It has never been rebuilt, just baby driven for 395,000, lol. It is fast too. I can get 3 gears of rubber with it easy. And I raced a 98 Chevy 1/2 with a 350 with headers, full magnaflow echaust, a chip (though I can't recall the kind.), and K&N cold air. I beat him by about 2 and 1/2 truck lengths! He wasn't very happy. lol!

I bought the old girl for 1500$, so she's pretty rough looking. And the odometer says 305, but it hit 400 and it dropped back down to 300, it was the strangest thing. It is currently undriveable though. I cracked the tranny support from bolt to bolt. Anyways, I'll post one as soon as I replace that. Should be within the next week.

Well its a Ford. Ha. 300s are a tough little engine, and torquey, more torquey than the 302. I built the 302 in my 95 at 144K. It had maybe another 1K miles left on it if I didn't.

It probably has 84 K on it and you are just misreading it, it hasnt rolled over, you are reading fractions of a mile on the end there. If you are 848K then wtf is left of your truck. Nothing against Ford or any other company but no regular truck will last that long with Major work done to it, and these trucks...definitely a transmission or Two. lol

With wider than stock tires, I got 16.7 mpg or so going between 80 and 100 mph, 70 miles roundtrip a day. I know I could have got 18 if I stayed at 60 with OE tires. I had a 3.08 gear ratio then

maybe it sounds good on some but for a silverado it make a 6 sound like a 8 now with flowmaster they make it sound like a civic flowmaster is known for makeing a 6 a 4 but with magnaflow it makes a 6 a 8 with sound i think
