  • indians have cool weapons

  • Interesting, where would one buy a replica/practice weapon of this sort nowadays?

  • Amazing. I've never seen a patta with a blade that big before.

  • IS HE HIGH ???

    \

  • this stupid don't know to hold it. He is insulting the legendry weapon.

  • freddy eat your heart out

  • while I can most certainly see use for this sword I find it very discomforting in an one on one fight. especially the spinning if I may call it that is something i really can't understand.

  • @hellzanetruesdale Calvary weapon.

  • @BengalG3 So they spin on the horse?

  • @hellzanetruesdale The rajput warriors spin their swords to maximize the damage it strikes with, it really does make the blows more powerful too. Besides the fact it's just distracting.

  • @hellzanetruesdale

He is fighting multipule opponents. In a 3D world attackers come from every direction

Yes in dueling one opponet maybe this would not be as partical

but often in real fight one needs to fight more then one fighter at once

Hellzanetruesdale also makes a point about these strikes having great power thou the large relaxed swings

  • @hellzanetruesdale

Its not a cavalry weapon and it was used as a sort of last resort, killing as many enemies as possible before dying. Its greatest utility is that it can be wound around the waist and then a normal belt or shirt over it so you hide a 4-6ft long blade in your shirt.

The most common weapons were of course sphere, in which marathas were said to be extremely skilled and sword.

  • @Nikhil1256 its not a cavalry weapon but was used against them and heavy armoured infantry. Used in the Mughal period. It wasnt a last resort weapon more than a normal sword is, a leader, Shivaji, was even reputed for his skill with the "pata" (the true name of this weapon)

  • @hellzanetruesdale This drill is not one on one fighting but shows when one is outnumbered in a battle on all sides. Its a drill, similar to katas in Karate.

  • @hellzanetruesdale this is a special sword. one man bearing this sword can fight almost 10 men bearing simple swords. as you can see all the gestures of sword for attacking are at neck or face level. It was specifically made to rip off the enemy's head, hence the spinning. got it?

  • muaythairaja, the battle at Panipat was in 1761, by which time 17th century weapons such as dandpatta had gone out of style. The Marathas had switched to European style warfare with mercenaries and cannon. They also dug in hoped to keep position. Ahmedshah Abdali was adaptable. Instead of digging in, he mounted his light cannon on camels attacking fast. Weaponry does not win war, logistics and adaptability do. That why Shivaji and the earlier Peshwas prevailed even their successors didn't.

  • Inspite of all this, they still lost at Panipat.

  • Hats off , dandpattyachi he kala lop paavat chalali aahe , aapan ti japayala havi !
