  • Brian's only covering the song, and he did it beautifully. He showed he's able to put his own spin on an already incredible song. Don't compare it to the original, because nothing will live up to it.

  • Sorry to all of his fans...........WEAK COVER!!!

  • I'm a huge Bruce fan, and no one can beat the boss' version of this song, but I love hearing my second favorite artist cover a song by my favorite artist. And I love the way he says thank you at the end, there's something about it that's so humble. Lots of people do Bruce covers, at least you know he's doing it with a respect for the song rather than fudging up the meaning (Manfred Mann's Blinded by the Light, anyone?)

  • mp3 please!

  • Love Bruce, love E-Street, love Brian, love Gaslight Anthem... don't really like this, though? I think it's the rhythm of his guitar...

  • What a wonderful version of a beautiful song! Well done, Brian Fallon.

  • Im reading all these comments about how he doesn't have a fake accent, but I don't even hear an accent to begin with.

  • i adore this. and him.

  • I love this man.

  • I really don't like this cover. I'm sure he's loving it, as he's doing it for himself but to my ears this doesn't sound nice.

  • I love how much he feels the songs he sings, it all come right from his heart,

  • im from jersey and am fans of both ive also seen both live many times i think brians covers of not just bruce but damien rice the clash etc are great i was in london at hard rock calling when bruce returned the favor and invited him out on stage u could tell by the boyish twinkle in his eye the admiration he has for the guy and just imagine playing 200 thousand people with one of your idols in another 30 years i think brian will be considerd one of the great american singer songwriters

  • who said fake accent knob i was born in freehold and am a massive springsteen fan but it hink brian is just as good as the boss and in other 30years he will be seen inn the same way and i was in london at hard rock calling and when bruce invited brian out to sing with him return the favor and the boyish twinkle in his eye was amazing ane tga r one of the best live bands ive evere seen to stop hatong start aprecating

  • @jjgrbic Fake accent?

He's from Brunswick, the next town from freehold (where Bruce is from), maybe do some research before you comment? How embarrassing

  • my all time favorie bruce song....... almost mines new york city seranade

  • The beautiful part of Bruce's words are that they are so universal and personal that no matter what music is behind it, it would still touch your soul. Dancing In The Dark is a perfect example even with the catchy synth behind it, it doesn't change the heartbreak you feel for his character in that song.

While i think Dylan is the greatest lyricist of all time, Bruce is the most personal or maybe its just me cause I was born and still live in Asbury Park.

  • @jjgrbic I dont see you on here covering bruce or see bruce inviting you to play with him during festivals. bruce doesnt rip apart his covers he respects brian so noone else really has the right to.

  • great band

  • Difficult to sing, but brian make its his best

  • i was in the car listening the gaslights cd and my dad was like i have never heard this bruce springsteen song.. Brian Fallon is the Greatest!

  • @jobo575247 Are you on glue? Honest question.

  • rkfan you no he not tring to be bruce thats impossible but this songs means alot to him but it is very good

  • @buryyourashesuk is youe brother single lol

  • @MrFraccobaldo Its not out of tune actually, its just tuned a full step down.

  • This guy should bring out an unplugged record, simply amazing!

  • The only thing I don't like about this cover is the fact, that the guitar is very drony and doesn't quite fit with the vocals until he switches it up, then it gets really good for a bit, then goes back to the same thing. Other than that its a good vocal track, well done man.

  • This is superb. Not quite as good as Johnny Cash's "Hurt" cover, but a great cover nonetheless.

  • Simple and honest... like rock is meant to be...

  • I kind of like this cover better than Springsteen's version. W00T Brian Fallon!

  • i don't want to be another downer on this video, because i adore this song, and i like gaslight anthem quite a bit, but this is just...boring. he has kind of a fragile voice, which i like, but he does nothing with it. yes, don't sing the exact way springsteen did, but don't just sing monotone over one chord. and his guitar playing is very unsmooth and it seems like he's having a hard time with the rhythm. i still like the band, but this seemed a bit amateur-ish.

  • @patchmack2 i think alot of people like that about the way he performs.. its not the same old perfect song. People who listen can connect to it better when it sounds "amateur-ish".

  • yeah put your own twist on it for sure but for the better not for the worst, this is poor. You wanna see good springsteen covers check out a dude on here called "agent of the free" - he knows how to do it.

  • wow. what is with all the grouchy comments. grow up people. the song sounds good. everytime someone does a cover of someone else's song, fans of that "someone" get thier pantys caught up in bunch. the whole point of a cover is to put your own twist on someone else's song. it's not meant to sound just like the original.

    Long live Gaslight Anthem.

  • Exactly, and besides Springsteen would be proud of this

  • nice cover brian did a good job with this

  • This is what a cover is. An artists interpretation of a song, they put their own influence into it. I've seen Springsteen live many times, and Brian Fallon does a great job here. Play on brother

  • He is the singer of a great band

  • fuck you, his voice is original that's why he is famous. dick

  • @alicejchoe lemme guess you're favorite type of music is something around the rolling stones prolly. I bet you listen to Jerry Reed like you breathe air. Yeah eather that or you're a hardcore rap fan. But go suck a dick, queer.

  • stix n stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me. especially on this ridiculous youtube comment forum. go suck your own dick, you boring person.

  • won't hurt as much as my knife on your little stick

  • learn how to spell dip shit

  • Wow, GREAT cover! A lot of passion.

  • Maybe this "cover" is rather an interpretation of what this song means to Brian. The dude's a Jersey native and friend of Bruce's so I'm sure he grew up with it and lived his own experiences with it. Since he actually has a creative bone in his body, he's able to shape the song into something that sounds different but with the same meaning, not straight up copy the music of someone else like some non-gifted hack. There's no point in covering a song verbatim - it's been done.

  • @jjgrbic Sorry mate, but fake accent? That's Brian's real accent - he's from New Jersey, same as Bruce. And he probably just went out there and did it, and didn't spend forever over-analysing it; he makes it raw and personal. Brian isn't trying to be the Boss at all - he's paying homage to him.

  • Comment removed

  • @jjgrbic Fake accent? at least take the time to research before you make accusations, this is his accent. It's all been said alredy, he's paying homage in a pesonal way, it's a fucking excellent cover, deep and heart hitting. You should really look up the gaslight anthem, cause you will really like 'em given your a Bruce fan (I am too).

  • @jjgrbic fakde accent he comes from new jersey like bruce get you're facts right before you comment

  • @jjgrbic Can you do better? I think not. What do you expect him to do? If he did the song too drastically differently, you'd complain about him ruining the song. This is an acoustic cover, with just one man (a great man at that) playing it- you can't expect a full orchestra composition.

  • It's interesting to see the different reactions to this cover. Perhaps each version reflects how different individuals would react and/or cope with a loss of a friend/lover. Springsteen's version shows the torturous wailing and almost pleading liked tone side to it, while Fallon's version offers a soft mournful reaction of grief of nostalgia.

  • that is a perfect way of comparing the two!

  • Sounds more like his own band's style, though. Why cover a song to make it sound just like the original? It's his own take, and it sounds like it could be an outtake from his own band's album. What's wrong with that?

  • there's a better, recorded version

  • where can we hear some of your music?

  • yeah, whats the point on covering it to make it sound the same.

personally i don't feel that the song loses emotion, every time i've listened to this i feel tones of emotion. i feel that it is transfered from the heart wrenching pain in springsteens voice, to the subtle pleas of a soft acoustic style voice. just my opinion, you have yours.

  • I think you're giving him too much stick. This is probably my favourite Springsteen song (or Jungleland), and yes, he may not hit the high notes, but you can still he is putting a lot of passion into this performance.

  • if you dont adapt it, it's karaoke, nothing more. from 3:30 he makes the song his own.

  • hahahaha its funny tht u think ur better thn brian fallon. he is the frontman of a band that tours the world and ur probably some faggot geezer who plays on the weekends

  • I love Gaslight Anthem but they were terrible live at Oxegen this year. Their soundman fucked up and you could barely hear them.

  • Comment removed

  • I met him and asked him to adopt me, just thought I'd say that haha, don't know why, course he couldn't

  • brian fallon is amazing. u can tell how much time and effort he put into this cover. he really respects springsteen and wanted to do the song justice

  • its ok. i wouldnt go any further because he can't hit those high notes before the chorus like "hidin'" but still none the less an ok cover of an amazing song.

  • Cant wait to see them live very soon!

  • WOW!!!

  • A great cover, and I've long said that if you don't love this song, you've got no soul.

  • Flawless. This man and his band are going to be HUGE very soon.

  • totally agree.their so fucking amazing live and just write beautiful songs that in todays music scene is awesome to see.

  • This song gives me chills everytime I hear it.

  • you can tell that this song means a lot to him - he's not just going through the motions. I love it!!

  • did you seriously just try and compare the record and this?

its a man and a guitar. did you expect the invisible band in the background to light up? because i know i did.

  • legends!

    him and bruce

  • Absolutely amazing! The best cover i've ever heard. Im sure Bruce himself is more than impressed.

  • thats a really good cover

  • Very good cover.

  • great great great! Thanks Brian!

  • now that is what i call a good cover! I'm curious as to where this came from as well?

  • Step down tuning i am assuming

  • good cover.thanks for posting it.
