A lot of governments use religion as an excuse to have conflicts but anyone with a little understanding of those religions could see that doing that is hypocritical of their faith. I cried watching this. I used to think God was only distant and angry until I went on a youth group retreat and poured out my heart in front of the youth group, talking about my family and my view of God. After I was prayed over, I felt 100 pounds lifted off of me and ever since, I've been loving God and watching what He does in my life.

He is also God of Vengeance (jer.51:56) and he is patient/tolerant. Jews are Gods nation, so they had very terrifying law books, because Jews had to be pure nation. if there were sins, they needed to be taken off, so that blessings of God would be upon them.if not, Israel had to suffer.
Did you read the verses I listed below? How is plunging a sword into the stomach of an infant perfect Love or Justice? That's what God called Saul to do to the Amalekite babies in 1 Samuel 15:1-3. Deut. 22:28-29 requires the rape victim to marry her attacher. What crazy judge would require this?...Answer: God! How is that being a "perfect Judge?" How in any context, is threatening things like the violent death of children and babies, let alone men and women, love & justice?

@97roscoe There are many answers to your question on this very page. I am not a theologian or an expert, nor do I pretend to be. Christianity is based on faith, it cannot be "proven". Simply put, the Old Testament paves the way for the New Testament. There seem to be discrepancies from one to the other, but again, it is a matter of faith in God and Jesus Christ. Hope this helps.

@FreeThinkingOpenMind I admit this makes more sense. So if I live my life paying no attention to religion I can just turn around at the gates of hell and say "woops, I was wrong, even though there really was no evidence for any of this stuff" and go to heaven instead.
The more common view of hell (at least what I've been subjected to) is that you end up there for not believing and there's no way out, which is the most unjust punishment one can imagine: infinite punishment for finite crimes.

I couldn't have been more wrong. The words in that book and what happened afterward cemented the truth and if I would have ignored it I would have been ignorant. The number of scrolls and the number of facts that support what they say is too big to ignore. People who converted to Christianity suffered and died by crucification because they had seen christ risen from the dead. Why would you do that unless you'd seen it with your own eyes?

I cried watching this. I used to think God was only distant and angry until I went on a youth group retreat and poured out my heart in front of the youth group, talking about my family and my view of God. After I was prayed over, I felt 100 pounds lifted off of me and ever since, I've been loving God and watching what He does in my life.
People, don't be afraid to go to a Christian you trust, pour your heart out and ask God for healing. He loves you and cares about your relationship with Him.

He is also God of Vengeance (jer.51:56) and he is patient/tolerant. Jews are Gods nation, so they had very terrifying law books, because Jews had to be pure nation. if there were sins, they needed to be taken off, so that blessings of God would be upon them.if not, Israel had to suffer.

Deut. 22:28-29 requires the rape victim to marry her attacher. What crazy judge would require this?...Answer: God! How is that being a "perfect Judge?" How in any context, is threatening things like the violent death of children and babies, let alone men and women, love & justice?

They don't align with a loving, merciful, forgiving and just God.

@97roscoe There are many answers to your question on this very page. I am not a theologian or an expert, nor do I pretend to be. Christianity is based on faith, it cannot be "proven". Simply put, the Old Testament paves the way for the New Testament. There seem to be discrepancies from one to the other, but again, it is a matter of faith in God and Jesus Christ. Hope this helps.

Just have "faith" is not an answer, it's just another way to side-step the question. I understand the theology and philosophy of Christianity. I understand about "faith". The man on the cross next to Jesus didn't know Jesus , but he went to heaven because he knew he was wrong and knew he needed salvation.
Whoever has never heard of Jesus can get into heaven if they stop believing in false doctrines and try to find salvation. Even if they do not find it on Earth , they will be rewarded for their search in heaven.

@FreeThinkingOpenMind I admit this makes more sense. So if I live my life paying no attention to religion I can just turn around at the gates of hell and say "woops, I was wrong, even though there really was no evidence for any of this stuff" and go to heaven instead.
The more common view of hell (at least what I've been subjected to) is that you end up there for not believing and there's no way out, which is the most unjust punishment one can imagine: infinite punishment for finite crimes.

I couldn't have been more wrong. The words in that book and what happened afterward cemented the truth and if I would have ignored it I would have been ignorant. The number of scrolls and the number of facts that support what they say is too big to ignore. People who converted to Christianity suffered and died by crucification because they had seen christ risen from the dead. Why would you do that unless you'd seen it with your own eyes?

@Anon9991 yes I could live with myself. because it is not my duty to convert but only to bear witness to the power of GOD. I am not GOD I cannot convince nor condemn you. only HE can do that. That's why GOD mandated that if you want to know him YOU ALONE have to go to him and face him by yourself.

@crunk601 It is our duty to convert, as Jesus said, "I will make you fishers of men". I do not believe however, that if u don't covert people that God would abandon you. As long as you believe in Christ =-D
