In 2003, Obama voted for the Affordable Housing Planning and Appeal Act, which required Illinois municipalities to make 10 percent of their housing units "affordable" (by definition, this included subsidized housing). This forced 46 communities just outside of Chicago to create more than 7,000 new "affordable" units - a huge boost in demand for area developers. The bill also provided loopholes for developers to circumvent local ordinances and regulations

it's obviously a joke. How many times does he have to say "but seriously" for people to realize that. he even says that the comment will get distorted and then people just quote the part where he says that 5 million is rich. Can't people tell it was a joke? Both he and Pastor Warren laugh, and the whole audience laughs.

he said it as a "joke" because he doesnt know the answer to the question so he throws out a number. He did think about it, he had plenty of time to think about it and didn't follow up then or even now with a true "serious" estimate of what he considers rich. I wonder why.

i completely agree that it was obv a joke and i think that it has been blown out of proportion, but how many times does mccain get to get away w/ NOT KNOWING his OWN policies? frankly, as huge an issue as the economy is, he should have a hard and fast number that he can recite in his sleep. that is my issue w/ the comment, not the number.
maybe we don't agree on who should be pres, but i DO agree that the media makes too much of tiny things and i sometimes want them to just shut it. :)

Well, he has said he doesn't wanna take any money from the rich...but the poor are another story. This also leads me to question, what he REALLY thinks of someone who makes $100,000 or $10,000 annually.
People in the church in this video can laugh about it because they don't care about anyone and think we're going to hell, as long as they go to heaven, but the rest of us will hold McCain accountable.

He might be joking about the 5 million/year, but that just emphasizes how out of touch he is with the real world with his wife bringing in 100 million. He quickly abandons the subject, retreating back to his talking points on government spending.
He says that he doesn't want class warfare going on; what he means is he doesn't want the poor going after the rich the way the rich have gone after everybody else. There already is class warfare going on; the middle class has been devastated.
