@RueArsins pretty ignorant to think a band can play a song perfectly like the album version night after night. both dave and noah change up things every night, thats what makes them the best
@silentsean602 that's kinda what i meant to say, they're people too, you can't expect them to be perfect every time. i've since then listened to more of their live performances, and found many songs i do enjoy live (this being one of them) i love that they switch it up live i meant it as "why others might not like them live" , i worded it poorly, sorry.
@RueArsins pretty ignorant to think a band can play a song perfectly like the album version night after night. both dave and noah change up things every night, thats what makes them the best
I'm sold, and i m old -i saw Thomas Dolby, live, in 1981 at the Agora, in Cleveland, and "AC" parallels the sound that TD put out through his brilliant mixing. That's all i have to say about it...
My girls is just so damn tasty and groovy though. I can't help but sing along and bob my head anytime I hear that song. I would say Bluish or Brother Sport are the best songs on the album though, other than My Girls of course. Lion in a Coma is pretty good too though.
I would have to agree. The live videos I have seen have proven to me that they really can't play their songs as well as they sound on the album, which is a shame. One thing I've noticed is that they don't even use some of the instruments that are present on the studio recordings. For instance, My Girls, when I saw that live video they didn't even have the 808 bass-line! Wtf? That's pretty much what makes the song.
I didn't realize that listening to music should be based on philanthropy or an outward concern for others. Creating and contributing music, perhaps, but the the act of listening should be about the internalized experience, how it may challenge, affect, inspire, and change us. Art doesn't have to fulfill a social mandate; it must only move us.
Yes but to use someone's creation as a catalyst for your own selfish desire for an escape from reality, belittles the importance of the creation in the first place. And places it in the same standard as Fractal Art posters and Black lights. I like to think of these visionary artists as much more than that. It is a question of whether or not this music needs to be "enhanced" and I think that doing so limits the power of it.
if, like most songs, it is "1 2 3 4" then that's 4/4. This song is in 9/8 (the 8 just means it's one 8th note past 4/4), for example, it is 8/8 + 1/8 (4/4 + 1/8)
Also, this song is a very good display of Avey's rhythmic prowess. The song is off meter to start with, and then he goes and tosses triplet verses on top. Much props to him for being able to keep it together.
I saw this very performance. Not my fave pitchfork act (that honor goes to either dinosaur jr or vampire weekend) but it was still frickin amazing. While this song was playing, I was asking around for a toke, and low and behold I found one!
mmm. point taken. But, not to keep going against your shit or anything... but the first time i heard What Would I Want Sky, I was dancing all over the place.
This is the only song where I like the live version more than the studio one. I'm not sure why, I think I just miss those crazy drum rolls Panda keeps churning out here. Album version is still cool though.
oh dood totally agree. Those bells in the beginning are hella epic... I also like the octave avey sings in better here. and the random as shit guitar part. The song is def. more layered live... but thats just yet another reason to see em live! =D I was at the Grand Ballroom and got tickets to Terminal 5 as well!
They haven't played a show near me in a few years now, and I wasn't even a fan of them back then. Hopefully I will be able to see them on their late spring tour this year.
this sounds alot better on here than it did in person. i remember freaking out cause i was hearing a song that even those bros over at ca hadnt heard.
went to pitchfork on sunday but i really regret not going on saturday because not only does this look awesome, but it's the show everyone was talking about the next day. i went to rock the bells though that was pretty sweet.

haha thats funny.. i got your youtube comments in my hotmail box one at a time.. and as i recounted the measures in my head (between opening up the two messages) i too discovered the latter. 9/4s or 3X3/4s. confirmed when i read your comment. so much for thinking i know music!
yet another time i've listened to an ac jam that i swore i'd wait to come out on lp first.. bah. i have no convictions. i love it. i love all of you actually. bye.
