Press Start to return to the main screen, and when Sonic and Tails appear, hold A and press Start.). At the level select menu, go to the sound test item, and play sounds in this order: 4, 1, 2, 6. You should hear the music you get when you win a chaos emerald. Now select any level, get 50 rings, and jump.

I don't know if it's pure fluke or something... but I swear the last boss' spike hands were clipped a couple of times. I always found him to be slightly unforgiving with that sort of thing, as in, if you even tickled a pixel of spike you'd die :P

U could control Tales with the second controller in single player mode.If he died he always came back!(on the megadrive) That's how i finished the game with a friend who played with the fox. I never got that golden sonic; how did u get it ? Is it the original game?

I remember when I first played this game. Couldn't get past the second act of the Chemical Plant Zone to save my life. But in a few plays (maybe 30), I managed the beat the game barely, after beating the game a few more successful times, I could get the Chaos Emeralds as soon as the Casino Night Zone. Finally, after a while, I gotten so good I could play almost as good as this guy and I could get all of the Emeralds during the first act of the Chemical Plant Zone.

When my brother had this on megadrive, he discovered a handy hint where if he collected all the emeralds he'd become Super Sonic - and a cheat where he could choose any level so before he attempted the whole game, he'd get me in, hand me the 2 player controller and he'd play Sonic and I played Tails on the Bonus levels.

I don't understand why some people think that Sonic 2's special stages are the hardest. They're so easy (and the most fun. IMO Sonic 3/S&K's ones are boring)!

I absolutely LOVE the final (grey emerald) special stage. Those moments where there's nothing but bombs and you're jumping like a lunatic, then suddens nothing but rings which lulls you into a false sense of security...

Nothing like it. bring back more of these stages Sonic Team/Sega!

Tails can fly, though it doesn't has Spin Boost, since it's a fox and helps on the Getting Rings Stage.

If tails gets hit by mines on the special stages, you get deducted rings.Since he follows a second or two behind you, it's easier for him to get hit if you're not careful.

but you get deducted rings you wouldn't have if tails wasn't there.

for example if sonic collects 60 rings on the special stage, tails collects 4, you're total would be 64, if tails then hits a bomb, instead of loosing 10 rings, you would loose 4.

you woudln't have those 4 if you didnt have tails though so really, there is no loss, no matter how many bombs tails hits, unless he somehow collects rings before you.
