  • uncomfortable with glasses after long periods of time?

  • @CMSThomson not with my current glasses, but generally open headphones will be more comfortable in this regard

  • So sometimes I download of remix nation and their songs vary from 192-320k. Should I still get these? Like do they just ruin it for you or are things around 192 not as ear blowing as 320k?

  • @IsaiasR79 people greatly underestimate the sound quality of a good 192 encode. There should be no problem if it is encoded well.

  • are they good blocking outsider sounds?

  • u look like randy from log

  • What are you talking about? 128k mp3s are crap, so It makes music sound more accurate?

  • lossless ftw!

  • good informative review.

  • Are these better then the mdr-xmb700 50mm drivers?

  • @ryanrrx I have the same question!

  • Does it -- hiss or buzz?

  • @signupsigma not on its own, but it depends on the quality of what it is plugged into..

  • just got used for 40.00 u jelly?

  • @AlexIsDesu no. It was used..

  • @parkxi

so, still works; also used headphones actually sound better to my opinion.

  • What is the music you have playing in the background of the video?

  • @PantsParty08 track I made myself.. not sure the genre

  • @Geardos great review, I have the Sony MDR7509 which are not made anymore unfortunately the quality on the head band portion is starting to degrade. I love the leather stitched band this model uses. I don't mind the exposed wires so much as sound quality is the most important to me. Thanks for the demo!

  • @radiodejaylee I find the 09's have better pads, the ones on the 06's are lousy. The headband is great though

  • 45$ on ebay

  • @XoXKyleXXX

thanks for mentioning that. I was going to get it for double that price.

  • thanks bro ily

  • Hows the noise isolation? cuz I need superb noise isolating headphones.

  • Hey other than comfort, for electronic and house music what sounds better these or the V-700djs?

  • would an ipod be able to power these?

  • @kjfld yeah it works great on mine.. the impedance is low enough that you can generally plug them into anything and the volume will be fine. I'd probably go for the cheaper v6 for walk-around phones.

I've seen these in public a few times, but they aren't generally designed as walk around phones

  • Thx m8 I think I am convinced, I am looking for flat, reference style cans and you seem to agree that these deliver. Good review.

  • Fernando Alonso!!

  • Going to GC to buy them now, thanx

  • I am thinking about geting these. Do they come with a plug that will fit into and ipod?

  • hey man! Did you get them on ebay for $20 from china? cause i want to get one of those but i'm afraid it's too unexpensive; i wonder if they are the real thing. if that's the case, did you have the chance to match them with another pair and see if they sound the same?

    thanks!

  • hey man! Did you get them on ebay for $20 from china? cause i want to get one of those but i'm afraid it's too unexpensive; i wonder if they are the real thing. if that's the case, did you have the chance to match them with another pair and see if they sound the same?

    thanks!

  • Which headphones would you recommend between the MDR-7506 and MDR-V600? I listen to a wide range of music from classical to soft rock to rap. I want headphones with good bass but a well rounded sound. Which of the two would you recommend?

  • Thanks man. I just purchased some.\m/

  • I have these headphones...a good accurate review.

    Thanks for the effort.

  • Great review, thanks.

  • I brought the MDR 7506 after hours of research on the internet for studio monitor headphone. It is my first item for the home studio...So i don't have a audio interface yet, I plug the headphone to my computer headphone jack...and the volume is soooo small...I did burn in for about 80 hours already...it still so small...do you know what happen? Or this headphone needs to be use with audio interface to get its full volume?

  • @tinhlaxox you might need a headphone amp (mixers are some interfaces have these built in)... I find the 7506 i one of the only models of pro headphones that actually doesn't have this problem (my sennheisers are nearly useless without an amp)... It's possible your computer's output simply doesn't have enough power

  • @Geardos thanks so much for the reply.

  • i'm a professional boom operator and I use these headphones every day. I've dropped them so many times and stepped on them. After 3 years, they're still kicking!

  • All I do is listening to music, and the regular Ipod small headphones arnt doing the job I have been looking at the MDR-7506, and the Sony MDR-V6, they seem similar, but what are their differences? Also which is better with bass? And all i want to do is listen to them on my iPod(which is possible, correct?)

  • You look like the older version of Mc Lovin from the movie Superbad :/

  • Are they still in good working order? and are they tight on the head?

  • @user12119 they work great. I use them everyday. The pads are a bit worn from use and transportation but nothing serious.

  • i think I will probably get these. I read that these are the preferred headphones for producers, broadcasters, radio, tv. etc.

About the bitrate, I have noticed how crappy 128kbps encoded songs are crappy on decent headphones. I'm no audiophile but I do appreciate rich, clear, and accurate sounds. Thanks for the review.

  • Should I get these if I just want to use them for portable music? Because I'm kinda stuck between Grado SR80's, Audio Technica ATH-AD700 and these. And also I wanted to know if you have any recommendations for good portable amps? Anyways great review!

  • @viet411 Depends if you are planning on listening to music with anyone else around. The ATH-700s are very, very leaky, everyone in the room will hear what you hear. The SR80s are killer phones all round but leaky too. These have great isolation and sound perfectly good too. So for private listening I'd recommend the ADH700s for their extreme comfort and open sound and for public, the Sony's. Also consider the MDR V-6 which are usually £20 cheaper and as far as anyone can tellthe same headphone.

  • Thanks for the review. Just wanted to pass along, you can order these from Musician's Friend for only $63.51 and free shipping, by price matching Amazon's $67.74 current price.

After doing a lot of research, I too opted to buy these today. I've got a home filled with Sony electronics, most of which are many years old, and still performing well.

  • Thanks this helped alot. Getting these tmrw!

  • Sony is really good with the MDR and the V versions!!! I've listened to the Sony V600, ( really nice headphones!!!! and good price!!! And I own the Sony MDR 7509HD, hd doesn't really make any difference to me, but the sound is phenomenal!!! Very Amazing, with a headphone amp it will probably even blow you away!!! Haven't heard the 7506's but my friend said that they are really good!!! Sony's rock!!!

  • thanks A LOT man. i've been fretting over what monitor headphones to get for ages, but you've really helped me make my mind up. i really appreciate the time you took to help us out. peace dude

  • ...Just wanted to add MY impressions - The AKG K240Studio's had a very open, wide frequency mid to highs, very accurate, except the lower fq was almost non-existent. Meaning almost no bass, thus perhaps forcing you to push the lows when not needed. The 440's sound excellent, low db though. The 7506 had a tight soundstage but full coverage of freq's. The bass was present and clear. I'm torn between the AKG's but think the 7506's will actually help me achieve a more accurate & honest mix/eq.

  • The 7506 are just plain neutral in the sound output, which is a big advantage I find. Other makes have 'big bass' but accurate is always better for mixing. I just HATE the earmuffs.. they aren't built well and tear easily, I need to get the beyerdynamics replacements stat

  • @Geardos Thanks for your reply, you seem to know your stuff, a real rarity in YouTube user reviews.

Interestingly, I found the 7506 to out perform the Beyer-Dees - the DT170 I think and another $300 pair. They were great but I felt Sony had a more honest sound. Have you ever tried/compared the 7509HD? I haven't checked those out and I'm narrowing down my choices to the 7506 or the AKG 240 but need to verify the 7509.

I may ask you another question later! Thanks Geardos!

  • Excellent review. I just demo'd/tried these out at a big name music store, they had the 7506 and other brands like Sennheiser HD280 Pro's and AKG and the latest Shure SRH440's and top model SRH840. I avoided the DJ's because I also need them for studio drumming and I appreciate that bit where you say no noise coming or out for monitoring.

  • Got em, 86 USD on Amazon, will be here tomorrow; can't wait.

  • Get the V6, theya re the same headphones (execpt the looks), and 20 bucks cheaper

  • should buy one !!!

  • forgot to say.paid £73 for phones.they have now fallen apart.great value for money.and the 3m lead was great for tv use.shame about the long term consequences!!

  • the 7506 are of course the same phones as the v-7 just been re-badged.

  • i used a pair of mdr v-7 for 20 years.sound quality was awesome.trouble is at 43 years old i now have bad tinnitus.this is a WARNING!! use your phones for short periods of time say half an hour at reasonable volume.this is friendly advice.too late for me.we have a generation of mp3 lovers who in the near future will all have hearing aids!!

  • Excellent review!

  • Excellent review, and great advice at the end. I have the Sony MDR-V6 which is almost the same as the 7506. If you already enjoy using it unamped, you'll get blown away when using a decent headphone amp! :-) Really can't believe why these are so cheap..

  • Geez Sony should hire this guy. SOLD!

  • Good review, thanks for advice!!

  • Should I get these or mdr700 DJ ones? I love the look of the other ones, but these seem better as oh sound and comfort.

  • @DerrickBouchard They tend to break very easily in the swivel mechanism. So i'd not buy them...

  • i have a question, how do you change the bit rate on an mp3 file?

  • @poondoonproductions if you want it to be better quality, thats not possible. the reason lower bitrates are made are so it takes up less space, which also takes away parts of songs, reducing quality. you cant make it greater because you need to add to it, which isn't possible. hope that answered your question

  • @TheKMStudios That kind of answers my questionn, but how can you encode it to be from 128 to 320?? Thanks.

  • no, mp3 encoding is lossy. You need an original uncompressed file (either cd-audio, flac, wav, some kind of uncompressed format). If you re-encode an mp3 file it will actually sound worse.

  • @Geardos ahhh kk thanks dude!

  • Lol

  • Good to hear this. My MDR-7506 arrived at Brazil today and I´ll test it now.

  • Salut,

    Merci!

  • Should i get these or the sennheiser hd 280?

  • I was asking myself the same thing. i went and tried them both i really like the 7506 over the 280. more comfortable to wear. the 7506 have a rebate now until the end of the yr, you get a free copy of acid.

  • 7506. i tried them both and i settled ont he 7506. u also get a rebate for the Acid program.

  • i really cant deside what to buy... thinking about these. i'd like to use them ONLY for listening to music. also i'd like not to go over 100-120$... so whats your opinion ?

    thanks

  • Get them. Mine just arrived today and I am blown away. I am only using them for listening to music.

  • just bought a pair of these off ebay (brand new) for $89 shipped! cant wait to get them

  • I'm thinking about buying these headphones for Guitar Recording in the future but will they be good for just listenin music on your ipod sometimes?

  • I use them all the time, they might be a bit 'big' for ipod use but they should work well.

  • Yes, perfect for the ipod. Mine has never sounded better than with these headphones.

  • 4 months later and these phones continue to impress me. I've changed to the Beyerdynamic velour earpads often touted as the perfect fit for the mdr7506 (they are). Old pads are still good but the velours will last far longer - they're also bigger and more comfy. Bass has settled in even more now - I find myself actually easing it down a little it's so heavy at times :) Then again that could just be the earpads compressing a bit and putting the drivers closer to my ears..?

  • where did you get the pads from? I've had my phones for a year now and they are a bit worn

  • B&H Photo Video - pretty much the only place but they were out of stock like forever, then miraculously got new stock - jumped on it soon as I saw them. They're still in stock. item number BEEDT250V

  • also - the picture does not show what you actually get, the driver covers are also included (as well as other parts not relevant to the 7506)

  • I took this from a forum, if you want i can throw you a link. There is more text and a few small graphs of grados, v6 and mdr-7506.

"In other words the non pro wiring in the V6 may just make them closer to a pair of near fields in the air."

  • the good thing about the exposed wires is that if anything goes wrong, you can have them fixed

  • You're so awkward now Ali G.

  • the difference is the frequency responce

  • good review, thanks!

  • What's the difference between the Sony 7506s and the Sony MDR-V6s, besides 30 bucks? They look exactly the same

  • The driver units on the original 7506/V6 models were the same (maybe still are) BUT there is a production difference.

The 7506 is wired with seperate ground screen for each channel for true channel isolation - that is why they are labelled as "professional".

The V6 is wired with a common ground screen (commecial) that introduces slight cross talk (30dB down) through the return channel ground.

  • interesting!

  • i owned the 7506 for almost a decade....very good sound

  • how long is the cable on these things? it looks like it stretches out a bit too easy. i am wondering how much force it takes for the coiled part to start stretching and uncoiling? does it start to do it when it is just hanging there on your head?

  • 3 meters

  • thats not what i was asking at all but thanks.

  • Thanks for this video man

  • Thanks Ali G for the great review

  • @lzrdude202 lol thnx for reminding me im gonna go watch more good old ali g

  • Got mine about 3 weeks ago. Sounded great at first but even better now after break in period. Bass is deeeeep frequency wise but not muddy and overpowering (as mentioned) - I play bass and love hearing every detail of bass guitars as well as feeling their low end thump! mids are clear, highs crisp. and MAN can you drive them loud! I do see the reason people say they're bright sounding, but you can eq them down if you like. I found the brightness balances out the more they break in - loving it!

  • do you have any suggestions for earbuds?

  • sorry, no, not a fan of buds as I'm one of those people whose ears they just fall out :) I'd suggest you check the head-fi forum - TON of actual user info on all kinds of 'phones.

  • thanks

  • Thanks for the review. I am planning on buying this headphones for listening to Lectures and playing games.

I dont listen to music at all.

  • do they stretch out and get bigger as you wear them more?

  • If I understand you correctly - no they don't. The headband and hinges are metal - just snaps back when you take them off. One of the reasons I chose them was their legendary ruggedness - people have them 20 years and just change earpads!

  • 20 years meaning of course the mdr-v6 - same construction as the newer mdr-7506 except not with gold plated plugs.

  • ya i got them shorty after writing that comment. there amazing headphones, but they dont have very good bass. And those arent wires that are exposed there the headphone adjusters. 9/10 overall, unless you like bass alot. wesc headphones suck btw. the oboe ones especially

  • 'Good bass' is subjective - these are NOT for bassheads, they're studio monitors that present the entire audio range in a balanced way. The bass here is clear, articulate and subwoofer deep, but not head pounding like DJ headphones. Imho this is far more pleasant and accurate, both for music and movies.

  • the snare drum comes in and destroys my ears sometimes though. The treble is much louder than everyrthing else sometimes.

  • Well, they are naturally bright, but I don't really have that problem. If necessary I just use my eq depending on what kind of music I listen to and how loud, and I don't crank them loud enough to hurt myself. Seems you really prefer a bottom end heavy headphone though - maybe something like Sennheiser hd212pro would suit you better, they're bass monsters apparently.

  • You couldn't have said that more eloquently. The bass isn't the structure good sound quality is based on, and not a lot of people realize that. I love in 3:30 he dampens the 110 db by closing the pads together, I love these headphones so much :D

  • The bass on headphones is inaccurate anyway, you need to use real speakers with low end response. Headphone bass is not 'real' bass, which requires a lot of physical space to for the actual sound waves. Anyway I find the bass on these to be more than adequate for headphones, and if you want more bass when listening, you can just turn up the bass in whatever program you use, and these can pump it out! They are just neutral by default.

  • Hi i'm an amateur DJ and i just bought these mdr 7506, are they a good choice fo its price for djing? or what would you guys buy for this purpose?

  • They arnt great for DJing...awesome for producing though. If your just a bedroom dj though ull be fine.

  • how the hell can you wear these with glasses on. it must hurt your ears

  • I usually wear thin frame ones (not the ones in the video), they aren't covered by the pads at all.

  • I've had these headphones for nearly 5 years and they still sound excellent. Can't be beat for the price.

  • hellya im buying one this weekend.

  • my Bose in ear head phones broke recently :-(

Should I get these? I'd use em on my iPod, and PC, But i'm very picky when it comes to sound quality, are they good for me?

  • from what ive read, these are the best headphones around its price range

  • depends if you want around the hear closed headphones. if you want a more natural sound with the sacrifice of letting outside noise in then go for the grado sr-80's. if you still want earbud headphones then i'd go with the etymotic er-61's. also, you could make the distinction based on you own price range in regards to the product line. but yeah the 7506 headphones are worth it.

  • These headphones are really good, I listed to 24bit/96k/192k music files, really really nice, true about inferior encoded music, 128kbps does sound inferior.

  • Fuck ya brotha' I have a pair - they're fucking sweet

  • What's the difference between this one and the MDR-V6?

  • Warranty and the Chord/Gold plated plug. They both have the same drivers, same spares for both v6/7506

  • Yeah, I got the Sony MDR-7506 a month ago just to be safe. The bass is a little weak, but the sound is very accurate and they are comfortable.

  • Cool, they should sound better with time too. I'm gona get a set of V6's for the studio soon when I get some spare cash.

The NS-10 of the headphone world?? May be lol

  • I think the V6 has slightly better bass. 5hz instead of 10hz at the low end. See wikipedia for a spec. charge on both the v6 and 7506 models, they are slightly different in terms of frequency response.

  • Thanks for the review, the leak prevention demo was useful!

  • Will this work on PC & Cell Phones ?

Looking for something that can do both like "theBoom"

Can u recommend something with Noise-Canceling, like Jawbone but with wire, so dont need to worry about Batterylife & can work on both, PC & Cell phones

    Please

  • they are more than fine for pc.. cell phone depends on the brand some of them use crappy connectors, these have a rather large rubber ring near the plug so you would want to test it out first.

  • can you make a review for mdr - xb500 headphones.

  • I'd need a pair or find someone who has them!

  • you are hot! make a jackoff video

  • SONY MDR SA 5000 IS HOTTER,BETTER AND VERY EXPENSIVE. It's a High Definition Headphone. MSRP $700.00 but in amazon, you can buy it for $400-$450.

  • too much headphone for me

  • love these headphones, they've also been reviewed by audiocrunch in the uk, check it out

  • cool headphones. im in desperate need of some right now. being in a band, i go threw em pretty fast. always break within a month.

  • might be better to buy cheap ones then

  • maybe u should get some shures, theyre designed to last long.

  • marc9334- being in a band does not break the equipment, the operator does.

  • Long Time no video eh?

I have similar headphones, except mines are Silver, and there Sony also.

  • Actually now that i notice, mines are the MDR 700 that u mention. I find them confortable tho..

  • too tight for me, but I think they block sound out better (since they are for DJ's)
