@ZooVisitorMM I know that 19 is old for lions but can't they live up to 30 years in captivity? I just fear for the life spans of the Cleveland Zoo's lion couple. They will become 14 in November.
@velocikiller13 Hopefully these will live to 30 or more. These all have multiple age related issues but still seem alert and healthy. The only real signs of aging that are visible to the untrained eye are the slow walking, and the sometimes awkward getting up or lying down. I hope the Cleveland Zoo's lion couple will live many more years, too. They look good in the few videos I have found of them. But the most recent one was recorded a year ago.
@ZooVisitorMM Thank you very much!!! By the way, the Cleveland Zoo's lions are named Moufasa and Chloe. I also recorded a video about them resting in the shade. They also appear briefly in a video about the Cleveland Zoo's elephants in their new exhibit. View them on my channel if you want.
@velocikiller13 Thanks for letting me know about your videos. It would be great if you could record more from time to time to show the lions as they progress through old age. People often focus all their attention on baby zoo animals, but older ones are fascinating, too!
@ZooVisitorMM If I could drive and if I had time to go to the Cleveland Zoo I would record more videos. Did you see the video about the elephants? Also, you seem to love the Philadelphia Zoo a lot judging by your videos. For that, I will instantly subscribe! :)
@velocikiller13 Yes, I really do love the Philadelphia Zoo. I have not been able to view your elephant video yet because my internet connection has been extremely slow due to the holiday weekend I guess. I will view it as soon as possible, though. Thanks for subscribing, and have a great Memorial Day!
@ZooVisitorMM I must also remind you that I have made a retrospective about the Cleveland Zoo. It's about my collection of zoo magazines and newspaper clippings. It might be a little boring. At least it is zoo related. It's just a little heads up.
It's good to see that an exhibit has some grass. The lioness is beautiful, and it is actually interesting to see the extra hair on her. I heard someone say that it's because she has menopause (if this is the way to spell it). Do you have any photos of the lions?
I take back everything I said about hating Zoos because looking at Philadelphia Zoo they seem to have tons of space and even more important THEY LOOK HAPPY .
@sinclaircats Thank you so much for this comment. You have absolutely made my day, possibly my year.
This is exactly what I am trying to show the world. And the same is true for most other modern zoos, too. I hope someday to expand my mission and show everyone that, too!
@ZooVisitorMM I have to say you made my year too. I watched a few of your Piladelphia Zoo video's and it is so obvious you care so much. Thank you so much for replying to my post . I just wish outsiders could help in some way . Tons of thanks to you for showing the world some Zoos really do care xxxxx
@sinclaircats Outsiders can help by contacting Directors of zoos to let them know how they feel. Currently, zoo directors hear mostly from animal rights activists who try to convince them to close down all animal exhibits.
I don't work for the Philadelphia Zoo, or even volunteer there. But I love the Zoo, and I want it to stay as wonderful as it is.
It saddens me when anti-zoo people say negative things about zoos without taking lots of time like I have to actually observe the animals.
The manes really are beautiful, whether they are on a lion or a lioness.
It is fun to hear visitors when they see these lions for the first time. They always say, "I didn't know two male lions could be in the same exhibit!"

She's adorable, but it makes me depressed because I'll be doing the menopause thing in about five years.
happycozy 2 months ago
@happycozy Try not to think about that.
ZooVisitorMM 2 months ago
actually the mutation is age-related.
yoshpit222 2 months ago
@yoshpit222 According to the zoo staff, it is an age-related hormonal issue.
ZooVisitorMM 2 months ago
Too much testosterone, its rare saw a documentary about it. Try national geographic archives, or google it
BOOM7STAR 8 months ago
@BOOM7STAR Thanks. I've heard of several ongoing studies about this age related condition in lionesses in the wild.

When I go to Las Vegas I get to see the white lion pride. Thanks for the video!
goldeneyesofafrica 1 year ago
@goldeneyesofafrica You're welcome! (So I guess I could go to Las Vegas without losing money. I would be spending the whole time watching the lions!)
ZooVisitorMM 1 year ago
She's wonderful! Beautiful, indeed.
I know she's healthy, but I wonder what's with her belly. She's certainly not overweight...but it looks either like flab or loose skin.
If anyone knows what it is, please reply!
animalsdeserveaplace 1 year ago
@animalsdeserveaplace It's sagging skin due to old age. These lions are all 19 years old, which is very old for lions.

@TheDarkdogwithin I agree - I think the mane adds to her cuteness, too.

Jezebel is beautiful even with her menopausal mane.
snapshot54f 1 year ago
@snapshot54f She is beautiful. And I actually like the look of her mane.
It is always fun to hear visitors exclaim "They have two male lions together - I didn't think you could do that!"
When there is no Zoo staff person around to explain the situation, I always do. I think I must have informed approximately 1000 visitors so far!

its a freak of nature ...???
NoticeOfDefault 2 years ago
She developed a mane about a year ago due to hormonal problems associated with aging. This happens occasionally in the wild, too.
She is not malformed or in any other way different than the other lionesses in the exhibit.
ZooVisitorMM 2 years ago
Ah..Wow..
A mane really changes their appearence.

littlesongbird1 2 years ago
All four of the lions are 18 years old - very old for lions.
ZooVisitorMM 2 years ago
Yes even captive lions. And if I remember correctly, they are first white lions in the USA
