How is Sweets? Has anyone heard how shi is in Kentucky, how is she adapting, how is your barn adapting to missing her? I wonder who she will be bred to..hmmmm,,she is so special too :)
Thank you very much for sharing Zenyatta with the world; your videos do a lot for the sport. All trainers of special (and even ordinary) horses should be publicizing their daily activities; this brings the fans closer and gives them a reason to care about more than the paltry sums that they will win by betting.
Please bring Zenyatta to NY this year! I'll drive to Churchill if I have to but you should bring her to your original home base.
Retiring sound after all them hard races, thats the best part of it all. The great aspect of this trainer he does not lose his love for the horses in the face of the ten percent. Shirreffs your one of the all time greats.
Love the final few seconds of this video.....the close up of her gazing eye w/ her forelock gently being blown by the breeze and the sunshine in her face. A quiet moment w/ so much beauty it almost makes one cry. Thank you for sharing these glimpses into the life of this very special creature.
Yes its a privilege to have the opportunity to see these majestic athletes during their day to day activities! Thanks so much John for posting these videos...
Fantastic as always! You're becoming quite the camera man there, John! That slow mo shot of Zenyatta was amazing. She's something else...you can just see her glowing regally. Keep 'em coming!
Life is Sweet is beautiful, but Zenyatta absolutely takes my breath away. Just watching her makes me feel so good!! I'm so glad God decided to share her with us. Thanks JS for the visit.:)
the wraps help promote circulation and is extremely beneficial to the health of the horse's legs, since the blood circulation below the knee is poor to begin with. A must for such a fine athlete!
Hey Coochie, You mistaken my comment. I said Zenyatta would have creamed Rachel Alexandra. But I thought that before Rachel lost her race. And is that Life is Sweet in your photo. Love John's videos, keep making them and keep caring for Zenyatta. She is the "Horse of the Year" and I'm an east coast girl. I would love more comments on how Zenny is doing. Wish she would run at Churchill or Belmont so I could see her in person.
Hi, I would like to become a trainer some day I wanted to know if you could give me any info on how I could get started do I have to go to school or how I can get my license to train? Any info would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
I was asking that question not to long ago myself. Look up the Race Track Industry Program at the University of Arizona, thats where I am at currently. If you don't want to take the school route, try getting a job with a trainer as a groom and work your way up. Work hard and never give up!
I'm hoping to transfer to RTIP from Socal, i'm a big fan of the racing scene here and have even owned a few racehorses. I'm so bored pursuing a regular degree, I want to do something i love!
@BarrelsRMe thanks for the info, I've looked into the RTIP before, im going to school now to be an HVAC/R Technician in Torrance, CA. I like it but my dream since I was little has always been to be a trainer, im barely 20 so I hope I can accomplish to do both :), once again thank you.
Sure am going to miss Life is Sweet. The day we met her, we took her picture in the back of the stall and she ran up to the front and stuck her head out. She and Zenyatta have such wonderful personalities. No doubt products of the kindness they so obviously receive.
John ~ the close up of ZENNIE gave chills ~ she is incredibly beautiful! She has such charisma!!
I was at Santa Anita on Saturday. I was so ecstatic at seeing her again, I couldn't hold my camera still. My poster this time read: "THE QUEEN IS BACK! DANCE 4 US". She did!!!! :-)
I wish LIFE IS SWEET a wonderful new life in Kentucky. She's a sweetheart, too.
I never cease to be amazed by these great mares and the fact that Mr. Sherriffs takes the time to delight the fans with these wonderful precious videos. We can not thank you enough.
What great stories. Both of these horses are so very special. How lucky you are to have known both of them and that wonderful ZARDANA. All the best to all of you..
Great video! I am going to sure miss Life is Sweet! :O(. I wish the farms here would let people see the mares, but I understand why they dont. Otherwise I would be one of her first visitors.
John Shirreffs' romance with his camera has gotten w-a-a-y serious! That final bit towards the end of the vdeo featuring Zenyatta in slo-mo is beyond beautiful. Great time of day---just look at her! There she stands, the perfect genetic storm. Racing's reigning monarch. Her blood must run purple. She doesn't seem to have lost as much as a hair since the Santa Margarita. Guess that Sweets will be leaving soon. Hope they will treat you with kid gloves at your new home, tender princess.
John, I was very fortunate to work for a trainer that loved his horses as much as you do. Watching these glimpses sure makes me miss it a lot. I wish much success to LIS as a broodmare. Can't wait to see what she produces.
Zenyatta is so special and by the way she has been posing for the camera, she knows just how special she is. And rightfully so. Congrats on the win...both of you. John, you have made this so much fun for all of us. Life Is Sweet will be so very missed but also we will miss you spoiling her and so often interrupting her naps. You have been so blessed to have such beautiful horses that I believe truley love you as much as you love them. Thank you again for sharing your world.
Precious sleepy headed Sweets, Welcome to my neck of the woods (very close). While about all we have is self service most people say the food is way better. I can promise you the people are friendly. You are quite famous here. Your great accomplishments are well known and greatly admired. You are very loved with more fans than you could imagine. We love great Champions. I know you will miss John, Zeny and everyone, but you have many new ones waiting for you here and you can sleep in Welcome Home!
Great video John . . . . . . Goodbye to the laid back Life is Sweet . . . . . . . . . you're gonna make a great Momma.
And what can you say about the Queen Z. . .she is a dream horse. Please tell Ann Moss we all love her and to send a little air up the Queen Z's nose for me ~smile~
I started crying when I saw Life Is Sweet. I'm going to miss her so much!! "Gobble, gobble, gobble" make we laugh a bit. And Zenyatta looks so calm out. She'll win for sure in the Apple Blossom.
I hope we get a Jonshfs05 On Location at some point - would love to see Life Is Sweet galloping around in Kentucky, and then later with little Li [Sweet Strike?] behind her... bye bye, sleepy girl, we'll miss you!

Have a good, healthy retirement, girl.
As for Zenyatta, she looks AMAZING after that win... that was incredible, big girl!
The slow-mo part was great, I don't think there has ever been a more beautiful racehorse then Zenyatta....

RAchel Alexandra has decided not to run in the Apple Blossom. I'm not surprised you would have got creamed.

So L you're saying RA would have creamed Zen? That's a moronic statement considering RA got CREAMED by Zardana. RA is Done!!!!!!!!
Zenyatta is the Best Race Mare Ever and will go down in History as the Best.
She is a freak of nature! RA should run in a $5000 claimer next.
