  • Love this!!!!!

  • Dynamite Duo.

    Dolly and Melissa.

    Harmony Happens Heaven.

  • This awesome they sound great together. This song reminds me of my Nanny because she too had a coat of manny colors. I sing this for her all the time I love you Nanny.

  • I remember growing up like this - kinda poor - and making do - but I do look back and relish living in a household with parents, grandparents and great grandma ... and going to bed hearing great grandma who was actually my grandma's ex-Mother in law both arguing as I was drifting off. From a small tribe in the midwest - I remember this and growing up on the commods (Gov't rations for tribes) - as we called them - but fond memories - sad that generation is long gone - but this song captures it!

  • This is the only song that makes me cry every time I here it, I am from the old school, Where we appreciate anything we got, today kids are so screwed up the got to have the latest cloths even if there poor, and they expect someone else to get them by other peoples taxes or their parents or killing someone for them, but work for them, out of the question, well this is the generation that will be running our country soon, ever herd of going to Hell in a hand basket?

  • Melissa Etheridge always wanted to sing with her hero the legend Dolly and both sang so good together!!! but also Melissa Etheridge hero was Janis Joplin..I love these women !!

  • I hear this song and it brings tears to my eye's I was one of six children from the 50's and 60's and we had no money, but we wanted for nothing in the way of clothes thanks to my mother's sewing skills. Yes we were laughed at,at school 4 not wearing the most up to date clothes, but we were warm and we had shoes on our feet. so I just want to say thankyou to my mumma for all the nights she stayed up sewing just to put clothes on our backs.I swear this song was written just for her.I dedicate 2 her

  • This is such a beautiful song with much meaning to it. I think this will always be a classic song.

  • I love Dolly and Melissa :-)

  • thanks for posting.I love Dolly and Melissa. That is was the best Crossroads so far.

  • Thanks for posting. That was nice. I never knew they sang together.

  • Dolly does this her own song great, and so does Shania, but I thing this is the very best version I`ve heard

  • @ariadne2956 are u crazy.. Dolly does that song better than anyone!

  • @dpfan74 yeah, I know, I was just trying to say that this version was veeery good, too

  • I love this version! Great performance by Melissa, and Dolly is always amazing!

    Thanks for sharing!

  • love those two lovely ladies. Hope yo once see them live. I know Dolly has been here, but I missed her. I don't think Melissa has been in Denmark to perform, yet.

  • Amazing! I am speechless.

  • aaaaaaw, dolly is so sweet.

  • Excellent.

  • dolly its true u r legend, i dont care what pple say about Dolly parton and his surgeries, but i stll love her n i will continue loving her. xxxx

  • sing dolly yess

  • I like how each of these ladies contribute their vocal strengths to this beautiful work. Dolly conveys the hurt and sadness of her mother's efforts being taunted while Melissa conveys the pride towards the mother as well as the anger +injustice against the schoolhouse kids! While Dolly definitely lived this song, I like how Melissa was able to vocally empathize and Dolly totally was proud of Melissa's rendition!

  • @Mktryk absolutely agree with your comments. Congratulations

  • Noone can sing the song like Dolly can. I love her beautiful and angelic voice. She sings with such feeling and passion. I just love her and hope to be able to meet her one day.

  • Interesting combo a Rocker Chick with a Country Girl

  • Carsten 1223 syntes at den er fin

  • OMG...she does BEYOND CHANCE, i like these two ladies, very classic

  • Melissa sucks so bad- she over sings this great Dolly song. You can see the dissapointing look on Dolly's face.

  • @giantswin2010 dissapointing? let's treat it like a joke, Dolly just realized that she is on one stage with woman who has better voice and sings better... Melissa treats Dolly with huge respect !!! and I think Dolly's fans should respect Melissa as well ...Melissa rocks!!!!

  • You have no idea how hard these takes are to find, thank you!!!!!!

  • Wow, Melissa really did this song justice! Love the harmony Dolly does too!

  • When I was a kid I had the old shoe boxes to cut up, and make toys from. Some times we had to trace our foot prints, on the cardboard, to put into our shoes. And my daddy was a civil servant worker (NYC Corrections Officer at Rikers’ Island).

  • lol omg my mom loooooves this song... my mom's not a big music person and shes a horrible singer but every time she sings this it makes me smile... haha i remember this song from a little girl! I LOOOVE DOLLY!

  • This is so pretty!

  • geo31 do you know dolly in real life?

  • is so a lovely song and i love my favorite singer melissa etheridge

  • das beste lied was ich von den beiden gesehen habe meine ikonen dolly parton und melissa etheridge ich liebe euch

  • melissa and dolly the perfekt team .. i love it sooooooooooooooooo much thank for this video

  • ich bin sooooooo begeistert ich liebe dieses video und ich liebe melissa .. das ist ein wunderbares video

  • Oh Melissa----- Those Eyes.

  • I love this song, above all Melissa has done..so far I have not heard one she does I do not like!!!!! Melissa u r a gift from heaven, ur so gifted and talented. I am so thankful u overcame the cancer!!! I LOVE YOU!!!!!!

  • This is my very favorite....i think Dolly wrote this and it is about her!

  • @leagerful yes she wrote it, she came from a very poor family. Well poor part of Appalachian. I can relate to this song. For us it was tough growing up. We didn't have money but my mom made it work, she is the best!

  • Fantastic

  • Would a young person of today even appreciate the toil and trouble of someone (their mother) sewing a garment made for the soul purpose of keeping them warm during the winter I wonder? I am lucky enough to have sons, grown sons, whom I taught to sew, do laundry, dishes, all household chores. All young people should watch 'Murphy's Romance". Guys and Gals, find out who you are so that you can find who you CAN be.

  • i just adore this song :)

    thank you dolly :)

  • My Mom made a lot of my clothes too, when i was young, i was embarrassed, but now that i am older and have kids of my own, i know how it is. I still have some that she made for me. My barbie doll was dressed as good as me. My niece now has her :)

  • WOW

  • I think that this music video is one of the best that they did together

  • Fan de dolly depuis trente ans , je ne m'en lasse pas , toujours aussi merveilleuse . CIAO from FRANCE

  • This is my favorite Dolly Parton song...and this is my favorite video I have seen of it.They are an unlikely duo. Melissa obviously loves the song and sings it with great heart.

  • the version with Melissa is way better than with Shania! I LOVE Melissa!

  • I have watched all these video's.

They all can sing & they all have a beautifull voice.

I can't say which version is the best.

I only can say which version I love the most.

  • amazing and really fantastic voices and of cource so cute words

  • Dolly or Melissa or Shania or Emmylou,

they all can sing and they all have a beautifull voice, but it's the song of Emmylou & i love it most.

  • @MaxTrevorful It's Dolly's song.

  • Yes I know, it's Dolly's song,

But I know it as Emmylou's song.

And as I said: I love Emmylou's song the most.

But @ YouTube, I watch all three.

They all have a voice of an angel.

  • I do agree that Emmylou has a great voice. But Coat of Many Colors, IMO will always be Dolly's. She wrote it about her childhood. All Emmylou did was sing it.

  • Awesome....almost brought tears to my eyes

  • A duet is sung in two voices!

This is an hommage of each artist's work by the other, both are very talented in their own careers, and these 'cross-overs' give a new appreciation of each.

The backing role for each is taken by the artist who made it famous. That is the concept, Etheridge is not being overbearing or in your face, she's doing what has been asked.

  • Taste the fricken rainbow!! LOL

  • I love Dollys version better, but Melissa is a great musician. I love Melissas voice, but it's just not Dolly. Dolly is a icon, and always will be.

  • Melissa is good but this is Dollys song, you can see that in Dollies face even during this clip, this song is a great song for Melissa to sing but is a heart song for Dolly to sing and it will always be hers, But will say,its a beautiful version all the same

  • Love the harmony

and the professional respect both artists have for one another.

Crossroads is a great concept, it allowed me to hear that Etheridge probably had some country influence early on.

  • I prefer Melissa to sing this song and Dolly is just good for backing her. That's my own taste. No offence

  • Melissa is Beautifull with long hair!!

  • she beautiful with a bald head to

  • Dolly doesn't have to sing a note in order to prove herself, Shes awesome and her graciousness is in the fact that she took the backing roll.

  • crazy concept, but in moments like these, it's awesome, kinda like when they put together Wy and Heart.

  • das ist das leben, der song tut einfach gut

  • Dolly sang all of Melissa's songs.

  • that is the concept behind crossroads. If you ever watch the show they sing one anothers songs.

  • The point is to hear what the other side can do with an artist's song... That is why they call it crossroads. Dolly sang every verse and chrous to Bring Me Some Water... I understand wanting to hear Dolly sing it- she's the best, but then why do a show?

  • when is this clip from?

  • i love dolly and love Dollys version of this song.....

  • me too,..i love this one too!

  • Melissa does probably the best of any other entertainer I've heard.....Shania does ok but this one is probably the best!

  • Amazing!!!

Dolly is a legend, and so are her songs!!!

I CAN SURE RELATE TO THIS SONG!!!

Melissa is at her best with this song & her performance!!!

    Two wonderful singers!!!

  • one of my favorite versions- greetings from Sardinia ( Italy)

  • Avercene di cantanti così in Italia...

  • Beautiful. Made all the more poignant by the fact it was only a matter of months before Dolly's mother passed away. *sniff*

    x

  • I think that this is one of her most beautiful songs that she ever written and sung it next to milessa ethridege

  • beautiful....beautiful

  • Great to hear the ease with which Melissa songs country music, one of the earliest genres that she performed.

Like others here, wonderful to see the mutual professional respect both artists show one another.

  • melissa showed sooo much respect for Dolly, and the same can be said for Dolly...she's always been gracious, but..I gotta say, there's a song made for every singer...and this one's Dolly's...you can tell, look at her..It's a very personal story for Dolly..and it shows. I just think this song is VERY special to Dolly. To me, this is the song that she was put here to sing. NOBODY can touch her, or sing it as well.

  • digging the leather trousers:D

  • 2 lovely women with lovely voices

  • I really like it It it cool

  • Melissa sure has a beautiful voice. I like her voice more than I do Dolly's. No offense Dolly!

  • melissa is good, but dolly is the true queen of music and no one can sing this song like dolly

  • Dolly sings this with more heart because its her story; she wrote this song. However, Melissa does the same with the songs she writes. I absolutely love Dolly's songs, I love them even more when Melissa sings them. She can sing ANYTHING!

  • Both have gorgeous voicess! <33

  • This was sent to be by a friend because I missed out on tickets for a Dolly concert. Loved it, thanks Wing

  • thank you for posting. Love this song so much and Dolly too!!!

  • I love both of these women. Melissa Etheridge can sing anything.

  • 2 of my favorite women togather... wow.. thats all i can say

  • Thank you for reminding us that though things may seem tough in today's economy, many of us started off life with far fewer "things" but were still happy because of the love that surrounded us. Great duo - great inspiration!

  • I think Crossroads is where they sing each others songs together but the other singer has the lead to the other persons song so it's meant to be taht way. I can be mistaken though I haven't see any from begining to end.

  • That is precisely how it is planned.

  • It seems disappointing to have Dolly singing backup on her own song...

  • they sang some songs where dolly was lead and Melissa was back-round.

  • Oh, I had no idea such a duet existed! I ADORE this song. Talk about two completely opposite voices, and yet they sound great together!

Darnit, this song never fails to make me cry.

  • Great clip - thank you so much. Any chance you have the performance of Jolene from this show?

  • they sing doll's song very good

  • The Shania & Dolly duet is much better!

  • yup dolly wrote it but when shania sings it you know that there is meaning behind it (well u kno if ur a fan), a story. this song means the world to her, you really can see rite into her past thru this song, there is just something about shania's voice, its like whatever she is feeling you can feel it in her voice, when she sings.

  • You are correct, but they sing it with their vocal cords but Dolly Parton sings it with her heart. Dolly Parton is the one who actually tells a story when she sings it, it has meaning. It means a lot to Dolly. I do love the amazing Shania Twain and Melissa sings great to but I just think that Dolly does this the best.

  • The best part is that Dolly was so very happy to be hearing Melissa sing her song. I actually like the Emmylou Harris version the best, but that was my first and nearest and dearest to my heart. It did bring a tear to my eye because you could see how very honored Dolly was to have Melissa singing it. They are both incredible women!

  • You realize Dolly wrote the song, right?

  • Good old friend:)

  • two of my fav ladies, singing one of my fav songs, could you ask for more?

  • Melissa sounds like a guy??? What guys have you been around? She has a raspy voice but in no way does she sound like a man.

  • she so does not sound like a man thats just how her type of gerne is kinda low and deep down voices you moron

  • melissa sounds kewl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Has anyone ever been made fun of as a child? If you have, this song is an anthem, for it speaks of the things we have inside that money cannot buy. . love, tolerance, forgiveness, determination, hope, peace and strength. Dolly dried a lot of my tears as a child, and I could never say how grateful I am. At times I felt Dolly was the only friend I had. Does anyone understand?

  • Completely :)

  • @geo31 in a way,my anthem is,How do you like me now. because of one comment in school

  • what was this concert called?

  • Afraid I dont know

  • This is from the CMT Crossroads show in 2003, where they pair up 2 artists from different genres, and one is always a country artist.

  • Yeah, its an awesme series. Another one was Heart and Wynonna. Both were awesome!

  • wow awesome, thanks - that's what reba and kelly clarkson were doing right. coool.

  • @MissTorrance .....this was crossroads on CMT

  • @MissTorrance CMT Crossroads

  • I love this song.

  • Wow Melissa Etheridge sing this song with a lot of passion .

  • Dolly was not overrun she was doing harmony vocals on this song as i do believ it was this song Melissa paid tribute to her with on the album "songs of Dolly Parton, Just because I am a Woman". So this was intentional. No body can do a Parton song like her.

  • where can i get a complete download of this concert??? what i have seen so far is Great

  • if you download the other video's from this concert you will find Dolly singing Melissa's songs.. they took it in turns to sing each others songs.. They are awesome..

  • hmmm, im think Dolly gets a bit overrun in this song. dont get me wrong, Melissa got a beautiful voice, but it IS Dollys song after all.

  • awesome video, awesome song, sung by awesome women.. i would have loved to have been in the audience for this performance..

  • This is just such a beautiful song, Its so true what I was told by my best friend...she told me that children these days have so many materialistic things in their lives and not enough love , I know of a wealthy friend who had anything she wanted except one thing...the real love and time from her parents and told me that she would give it all back in an instant, to just have that kind of love which this so relates to.

  • Your comment is very sad but unfortunately so often true

  • that is so sad to hear. i know people some people who even got their parents love and attention with all the things they wanted... and never understood much about those of us who were happy in the simplest of things.

  • @mmmvanillla that is soooo true...why do we not see our kids need us, not things!!!

  • One of my all time favorite songs. That was really nice. Thanks for sharing it.
