Want to know a secret? I own a vintage Ram's head big muff and a russian reissue (black casing). I cracked open the back to see the circuits...IDENTICAL. Other than the vintage chip the ram's head has, the boards are the same. In fact i played them at about the same settings and they sound about the same. I even put the vintage chip into the Russian...now it's a ram's head. And they sell russians for $50. Preettty good pedal guys, check it out.
@ilovemyfender1 You put the vintage...chip in the...wait, what? There are no "chips" in a Big Muff, except for the '78-'81 Op-Amp version. What are you talking about?
Besides which, having played every version of the Big Muff except the Red Army Overdrive, I can say with certainty that if you can't tell the difference between a Ram's Head and a Black Russian, you aren't listening. The Ram's Head has such a deep scoop that it's unmistakable, and the Black Russian has much fuller lows and mids.
i have a big muff, and it's true its got a dirty sound and thats pretty much all it does. but hey, that' what i wanted it for and that's what i got. so why complain ya kno? everyone always talks about how it isn't good, but what are they talking about? it's only comparable to so little things. its a distortion pedal and thats what it does good, distort! make noise!
David did use a Big Muff, and still does, but it is the Green Russian version which is smoother. I own both version, and I much prefer the Russian one!
@kyral210 David Gilmour actually uses a Civil War version, the version from before the Green Russian. It's very similar, but it has a bit more midrange. I've seen it on his pedalboard. Before that one he used a Ram's Head, which, interestingly enough, has basically no midrange at all.
I don't know about this cab sounding like an orange cab.But i can tell you that the 1990's green matamp cabs are just stripped down orange cabs i can tell you that because i own to 4 12 cabs loaded with celestion gt 75s.But this looks like the new matamp style so there is probably a difference. The original orange cabs used greenbacks wich those probably sound dam close.cool gear that you got there though sound good.
yea but you have to look at sound both as a whole and as individual links in the chain, as well as from an economical, qualitative and quantitative perspective.
What is going to get me, the best and most varied sound, for the best price? With analog equipment, pedals are alright i guess, but theyre like 100 bucks a pop, and you get one effect.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
You could get a good digital preamp/processor, with hundreds of effects and infinite options for like $300, and the thing about the preamp is that theres a far likelier chance of you getting a cleaner and less fuzzy sound because the effects are traveling from and through the same medium, as opposed to changing through each pedal. Secondly, between tube and solid state, i think its a matter of what you prefer.
Solid state is cleaner with a lot more high band eq, where as tube is warmer and gives a little crunch at higher volumes. Personally, I would use a solid state power amp and my preamp for for my jazz gigs, and my tube head with my preamp for bigger rock shows. As for effects and 'polishing' my sound, I would always use a digital preamp/processor to a pedal chain.
I see your point, but tbh i hate a totally clean guitar sound. I like a little hiss or noise or whatever because it sets apart my guitar sound from anyone else's, and really it depends how you put it to use. Of course there are players such as yourself that need a totally clean sound like you said, for jazz, but for mostly heavy distortion and phase-oriented slightly noisy music, a little bit of background fuzz is no problem to me.
I just think that analogue pedals offer so many different sounds and can vary so much box to box (even with the same effect, take the EH Small Stone for instance) that i found its a bit easier to get 'my' sound, although i have to admit digital FX can have astounding results :) but for now, its back to my Boss and E/Harmonix, thankyou
I play a tele&a strat(both modified w/vin. noiseless p/ups. I have an american '57 Bassman tweed(early 90's re-issue,no frills), and it sounds unbelievable w/ a tweak fuzz/BM pi/Boss OC2/Bosstremelo/Boss Digiverb,but no fx loop means no Digiteh rp-1(it is shit w/out a loop).It's frustrating. This sounds great!
Always some pr8ck gotta tell u how much better their tone is. Hey, kowchx,,it's subjective. Your tone isn't my tone, isn't his tone. Go make some music w/ your Eric Johnson/Steve Morse/Jimmy Page perfect tone. What a f8ck.
somehow i can't hear anything, even when i turn my volume all the way up. Other videos on youtube sound normally. Anyone else is having problems like this?
Very nice man, im liking the tone. Im thinking about buying a bassman head and a marshall cab and I was realy wondering how it would sound with some fuzz in front of it! You're video has helped a lot.
1. What a great amp and cab you've got there, and what a way to ruin their delicate sound... (Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the Big Muff, I own one and I love it- nothing beats it for Pumpkins, Stripes, Fu Manchu etc)
2. The riff from "No Quarter" is not played like that. It's "single note after single note", not power-chord style...
2. I'm not Jimmy Page! I don't even play the right notes maybe, it was just to play something as it came! ;) I hope you don't spend your time to see what is correct or not in guitar videos on YouTube, you would need a lot of time I guess :D
are you playin down?? i feel l8ike i know that riff?? hey man all them pedals you got let me just have sooome
