That smoke is soot, not smoke, and is simply the result of too much fuel, not a good tune. The same amount of power could be achieved from that truck without the amount of soot.

yes your are correct on it being soot. the guy i commented on didnt seem to understand anything bout diesel. anyways, yes the same amount of power could be achived without the soot... but its hard to make no soot out of a diesel engine due to the fact the second the truck starts. the glow plugs shut off an the fuel is soleing burnt off of combustion, not a spark or heat....

That doesn't matter... The glow plug exists solely to aid starting in cold weather- you could have it disconnected and the engine would still start up fine depending on the temp and how long you let it crank. Diesel fuel has a much lower ignition temperature which is how it's able to run off of compression, not "combustion" as you say it. Diesel engines run a much higher compression ratio than gas engines- the heat generated from the compression stroke is what ignites the fuel.

There will almost always be a bit of black soot in diesel exhaust... It's the nature of the engine, but the amount being shot out here is WAY too much. The only reason it's so common is because the more fuel you pump into a diesel, the more power you will make... To a point. It's easy to just dump a bunch of fuel in there and call it a day, which is simply why this much soot is so common in high performance diesels.
