Each character experiences adversity throughout their years of living as an African American woman who was a slave. Even though these characters are fictional characters, the stories and hardships that they went through were nonfictional. It took the girls to represent their strengths and courage to get thru their hard times.
First character is an young slave girl 1831, dreamer. Who represents strength and courage. Our ancestors have shown us a great deal of faith and strength to push forward threw any struggles. The next charther struggles to keep her family together and get her life back on track. The last character is an college student who has dreams, she is how young ladies in the future should be. The novel is about Afican Americans females who show you can overcome low situations

As Judge CBall explains how hard it was to write the novel because of the disturbing stories of slavery. Slaves were not to dream but this novel focuses beyond the expectations.
