i know exactly how you feel my mare was the same for ages and she had a bad start to life with no one loving her or showing her any attention but just stick to what you are doing and keep showing her that love that she so dearly wants and i promise you things will get better and one day you will wak up to find a completely different horse in you stable. What a lucky girl she was to find you. As an ex-racer one thing she is bound to have stomach ulcers, get some slippery elm or the vet and sort those out, then keep building on the trust and respect (have you seen Monty Roberts Equus University, lots of tips on there). With your understanding and care, you'll get there.
this video makes me cry. To think of what this poor horse has gone through to be so mis-trusitng. Have you considered natural Horsemanship? A rope halter alone would change things because they can not lean against it and be comfortable. I do Parelli and can not speak highly enough of it, and have seen the changes that can be brought...dramatically..I hope for your horses sake you are following someone's natural horsemanship program so that you can get inside her mind.

Those comments made by the farrier and dentist would just make me put more effort into the horse for training and never give up. I would just want to prove to them what you can do :)
All those Comments that the Farrier and Equine Denist were saying was just sick!! If you can fix her you will have such a bond with her till the day she dies! Trust me, I had the same problem, An now my pony is my best friend :D

shes like my mare. first 6 months i had her she was just like this, it just took alot of time and patience, no hitting, yelling or nothing cause she was so sensitive. my mares story is just like yours too, raced then neglected. took me ages to get her to trust me, but once she trusted me and loved me she would do anything for me, she still will. i can do anything with her now, i know how frustrating and dissapointing it can be to have to handle a horse like that, just keep going! gorgeous horse!

Your doing amirably with her, my gel is an ex-trotter racer, when i got her she would rear up like that... and bolt everywhere once i was on her and sometimes not. Two and half years and she still bolts out the arena, down the road, through the fields and into heavy traffic. But she is getting less and less with more gap in between and appart from when she is seriously pissed off, she rarely rears any more. Just time, Patience and Understanding. She will make an amazing mare! Good Luck!!!!

I have a TB x-racehorse aswel, he is the same, doesn't rear or buck but spinns, lovely sweet being handled, but ridnign went nuts, poor baby was terrified as him previous experience haunted him, now 3years on he still has his little spins but is in much better condition and happy, like your big girl, they are worth it, they just need a chance to shine once more
to me, looking at her attitude she is standing up before someone can walk all over her and just needs someone she can actually trust,,,i would myself have a horse like this...whoever said put her in a can is heartless....poor girl. i hope she can trust you and make her life easier...she is stunning!!!!

@horseygirl129 Well it depends there are special feeds sold for horses to put on alot of weight fast so obviously those would help but aside from a very fiborouse feed you would be surprised how much carrots and hay help out.

@horseygirl129 Sounds pretty bad. Just have some patience and work her up slowely. Once she is cleaned regularly and exercised her body will be much better in keeping up her weight and create more muscle wich will make the belly get smaller and the ribs more tucked in im sure youll do realy well with her in time and i know what you mean about the scars all my horses came to me underfed and abused you wouldnt believe the things that happend to this little girl.

Your doing amirably with her, my gel is an ex-trotter racer, when i got her she would rear up like that... and bolt everywhere once i was on her and sometimes not. Two and half years and she still bolts out the arena, down the road, through the fields and into heavy traffic. But she is getting less and less with more gap in between and appart from when she is seriously pissed off, she rarely rears any more. Just time, Patience and Understanding. She will make an amazing mare! Good Luck!!!!

I have a TB x-racehorse aswel, he is the same, doesn't rear or buck but spinns, lovely sweet being handled, but ridnign went nuts, poor baby was terrified as him previous experience haunted him, now 3years on he still has his little spins but is in much better condition and happy, like your big girl, they are worth it, they just need a chance to shine once more

to me, looking at her attitude she is standing up before someone can walk all over her and just needs someone she can actually trust,,,i would myself have a horse like this...whoever said put her in a can is heartless....poor girl. i hope she can trust you and make her life easier...she is stunning!!!!

i loved it!!! she's a gorgeous little mare, with a huge attitude lol make sure when your riding her you keep her collected and down.. helped me and my gelding a lot when we were first going to do dressage

I think its great you kept it with her! because it must've taken alot of patients and I would probably have done the same! those ppl who said that about your horse should really should shut up! because the only reason they said that is because they probably would've been to scared! so i really admire what you did because that horse probably would've been abused anywhere else! u r a gr8 person:)

wow love the video. She seems like she is work with. people who just say stuff like They would beat her well they have no love for horses. the don't care at all the just want to look good have the best and they would do what ever it takes to get them there. well people who love their horse are better. they have something that stand out then all the others. They are the ones with the bond.their horse do what ever it take not to hurt the human not to let them down if it means hurting them selves

how about I give up on you and see how you like it...damn it people (the commentors who say just beat her into the ground) have no sense of compassion and understanding that trust is a very hard one venture and if I beat you...wouldn't you fight back even stronger...being free is a wonderful thing...those people need to start thinking outside of there immeadiate bubble for once in their miserable lives....THIS cideo grabs me by the throat at how well put together it is and its message! ;-)

have you tried do parelli with her? it can be very helpful. i have seen what a difference it can make between horse and rider. i have also seen how it helps with horses that are difficult or have a lot of problems..( not saying that your horse is difficult or has a lot of problems) she is beautiful. good luck :)

@horseygirl129 Well it depends there are special feeds sold for horses to put on alot of weight fast so obviously those would help but aside from a very fiborouse feed you would be surprised how much carrots and hay help out.

@horseygirl129 Sounds pretty bad. Just have some patience and work her up slowely. Once she is cleaned regularly and exercised her body will be much better in keeping up her weight and create more muscle wich will make the belly get smaller and the ribs more tucked in im sure youll do realy well with her in time and i know what you mean about the scars all my horses came to me underfed and abused you wouldnt believe the things that happend to this little girl.
