okay, but why use pressure to create pressure?!i mean you are using an electrical aircompressor to pump the fluid.why not use an electrical pump and forget about this device?

"Whats a Tesla pump? Well its a Turban in reverse"...... Um... No, its not a Dirka Dirka Turban in reverse... but i could see it being a TUR-BINE! (Thumbs up)
IF you used liquid to drive the turbine (such as a thin oil for example) will it work more efficiently, or does the fluid have to be compressible for it to work?
you would think that, with what you spent on fabrication and magnets you would come up with a more practicle application you for a tesla turbine, I mean maybe if this could be applied to oil rigs it would it be a viable economicly..... its like using a 8 cylider engine to run off the alternater a flash light to power a photovoltaic cell...catching butterflies with bulldozers.
just becuase the smaller one driving the bigger one will be the same amount of energy. it wont make a difference on the RPM of the turbines but the smaller one is more efficient at pumping the liquid.
Accent? What Accent? Actually it is nice to know that there are people out there intelligent enough to know the difference between a Texas backwoods drawl and a drunk. Thanks.
this would work with out the need of constint air presurize it and since air floats on top of air the liquid is forced down into the input pipe and going through the turbine into the main thing full of liquid
I wonder if these pumps might have good medical applications, perhaps for plasma, blood, etc? If they work at lower RPMS maybe they are easy on the blood cells?
Oh, by the way, isn't it possible for the fluid to draw itself up the pipe under the effects of inertia and negative pressure once some momentum has been applied, and the fluid falls from the top under the effect of gravity?
It looks like the care more about it. Also I've seen a lot southern accent videos about trying to make alternative energy... (I'm not "racist" or w/e if that what you thought)
I'd attribute it to a proclivity for the south to search for sustainability or a survivalist mindset. After all they were decimated by the Empire at Washington DC after the Civil War. Something like that doesn't leave a society unchanged.
That or that there are a lot of engineers in the South these days. Remember NASA based in the South and a lot of research has moved to the sunbelt over the past 40 years or so.
I guess just a little more free time here in the south. Myself is experimenting with electromagnetic fields. We are all great Americans! north and south.
Since the turbine can run off liquids as well as gas have you considered modifying this setup to have the pump's exhaust pressurize and run into the inlet of the turbine? With the right configuration I could see this easily becoming a perpetual motion machine.
Perpetual motion deal with electromagnetism not tesla turbine. There cannot be absolute zero friction but relative frictionless motion which can be achieved through antigravity technology. Perpetual motion is an obscure concept, how long do you need th emachine to run? If coldfusion is used then you can run a turbine for millions of years using only tons of heavy water.
very nicely done. Looking forward to see your other videos. As for the negative comments, well I do not understand them so it's better to ignore and forgive their ignorance.
I don't know much about hydraulics or mechanics. I'm just a fan of technology. been wondering if tesla's turbine and pump could be modified to function as a CVT transmission.
never seen this pump design before, but the little i can understand from this invention shure shows a lot of potential for a CVT.

Very impressive and a lovely demonstration of a fantastic and little used invention. Thankyou for sharing this PlasmaStar9. I will have to build myself a setup like this sometime!
So what does this mean? you convert air energy into mechanicle energy and if you attach a generator you can make electrical energy? how efficient would this be and how much electricity could you produce? could you produce enough energy to have leftovers to enegize an air compressor to keep it running forever? well, after the initial start...
nope not the most efficient system available. But both the pump and turbine are very versatile, work on liquid and gas (or mix) without modification, are reversible, easy to make (compared to blades on a normal turbine), and can be a bit more forgiving then blades too. But yes they have their uses, and can be found out there. And there are some cool variations in design for stable, cheap, variable speed wind generators too. Ingenious considering when it was invented.
On which? both the pump and turbine depend on disk size, amount of disks, housing design, amount of stages, resistance, and material being moved through them. I'm sure one would be able to find the proper calculations in various mechanical engineering texts.
@Nicko1024.. Hello, you mentioned "there are some cool variations in design for stable, cheap, variable speed wind generators too." can U send a link ? or title? Thank U.
Check out the TESNIC wind turbine system. Its still in development but it uses Vertical Axis Blades along with Disks that exploit the same boundry layer "surface adhesion" in a typical tesla turbine. It basically allows higher transfer of energy at lower speeds. Great for lighter weight residential systems which usually don't tend to have optimal wind conditions. Too bad its not in production yet...I'd love to buy one.
Nice try but not quite correct. The spanish and portuguese speakers say turbina where the i is pronounced with a long e sound...but does this really matter?
To the original poster - nice vid showing both modes of the tesla turbine/pump in operation. The nice added touch was your demonstration illustrating that the difference between the two is how the inflow and outflow are configured.
It was the frist time i seen this tesla turbine, its cool, i like more the pump. Question.. does the shaft spin faster if you had like a "fan" turbine and you put the air stream directly.
I know it was sarcasm, but just wannted to put the theory about the motors... and please, if you want to invent a great machine, go to school and then you post your ideas u.u...
Heck. Here's an even easier one. Take 2 little DC electric motors. Hook the wires from one to the wires on the other. When you spin the shaft on one it gererates an electric current which causes the shaft on the other to spin as well. If you connect the shafts together with a flywheel and give it a spin they should keep going, right? You should be able to have this setup running in a couple of hours, and tomorrow you will be the richest man on earth.
jaja would be cool, but of coarse you cannot do that.. theres a loss of magnetic force when you spin a generator-motor, so the power you put not equals the out one, then the wires in the coil has resistance, so you loose power in heat form.
Hehehe...I tried exactly this when I was 8 y.o. (almost 40 years back)...oh to be young and naive again! It is a perfect experiment for people with over-unity desires!
Ideas from tesla and others like this were not given as much attention as they deserved for what they were, simple great ideas that worked.
This is a great idea of elegant simplicity, inspiring. If only more people would use such models to explain things like this actually working, there would be a lot less "green greed" about!
If the turbine and pump were 50% efficient, which I'm sure they are not, you lose 50% of your energy to heat, friction, or whatever. You have to make up that loss continuously from an outside source like air or steam. They cannot be self sustaining. Would be nice.
its called "entropy" "exergy".... you could do what you thinked.... but its very not usefull, ok first you connect the two how you thinked, know what you need to do es put that fluid in motion so you need an electric pump, because if is not runing you wouldnt be moving the turbine in the first place
Nope.avi

Love the video, it really helps demonstrate the dual features of the Tesla Turbine/Pump! I have some questions for you:
1. How much did it cost you to make both those turbines/pumps?
2. What supplies did you use for the disks?
3. What size electric motor would run that little pump? I'm trying to find one that would run off medium to small-sized solar power.
4. Do different viscosity liquids/oils (ex. motor oil) require different speeds to pump?
5. Can you make a vid pumping motor oil pleeease?

If only more people would use such models to explain things like this actually working, there would be a lot less "green greed" about!

what if you pump the liquid into the turbine?
The pump would run the turbine and the turbine would run the pump.
you would need to build the pump to accommodate the turbine or vice versa,
am I crazt or would it work?

If the turbine and pump were 50% efficient, which I'm sure they are not, you lose 50% of your energy to heat, friction, or whatever. You have to make up that loss continuously from an outside source like air or steam. They cannot be self sustaining. Would be nice.

how could it lose 50% efficientcy.
If the turbine spins, it pumps to the turbine with no loss.
If the pump supplies liquid and the same rate, it spins the turbine with no loss.
Where is the lose?
Even if there where heat how dose that keep the pump from suppling the liquid, or the turbine from suppling the spin.

its called "entropy" "exergy".... you could do what you thinked.... but its very not usefull, ok first you connect the two how you thinked, know what you need to do es put that fluid in motion so you need an electric pump, because if is not runing you wouldnt be moving the turbine in the first place
