Well, I used only the bridge pickup, for a sharp starting tone, then I added some distortion and overdrive effects + EQ in my computer ;3

if you want muddy tones by default, get any bass with high-output pickups, they tend to favor distortion from the get-go!

1) I use both pick and fingers. It jsut depends on what type of sound I want.

Picks have more brightness than fingers, also makes it easier to play faster notes.

Fingers are warmer and pack more punch, and makes string jumping easier.

2) I use a regular bass cable with an adapter at the end, but I'm saving up to buy a USB interface for less interference.

It all depends on what you did before trying

If you played a lot of video games or used an iphone or similar for a while, youd have a better chance of fingering better than picking, at first glance

the opposite is true if you were a guitarist, or played a lot of guitar hero.

But people usually try picking at first because they suppose its just like a guitar, only 4-stringed.

Picks dont mean youre a noob, I started with fingers, and I go back and forth on both techniques.

Advantages: good lows and mids, lacking highs : Good for hard rock through metal and some types of punk. Pickup selector is GREAT for smooth-sounds, bright-sounds, and slight distortion

Disadvantages: Bad for sitting down, no proper slapping can be done, not good for funk, jazz, etc, and also a slightly thick neck + neckdive

And you better get a custom case, it doesn't fit P or J bass gig bags!

How do you connect a bass with pc? I try to use my amp as a switch from tha big bass cable to one that fits in a pc. But I don't get any sound out of it, my amp is a ibanez swx65, what of the outputs should i use? Send? Line out? Speaker? Return? And where in my pc they go in?

I believe you're trying to put a bass cable or an XLR cable through a p-3 input on your computer.

You probably need an adapter (p-10 to p-3), which is what I do!

Plug in your bass into your amp, use a guitar cable from Line Out and put it in your computer's Line In or the microphone jack ;3

I've never tried drop B, but I think that I would need to buy heavier gauge strings or else they would become wobbly and flop about, touching the frets and pickups....

I use .40 , you'd probably need a .50 or HEAVIER gauge string to go to the B

I used GarageBand to record the audio

And at the same time, I used iMovie '08 to record directly from iSight, then synced the audio over the video, and deleted the video's original audio

Well, 80's songs aren't that hard, except for a few bands with good bassists, like Iron Maiden, The Who, etc, but only because they made the bass come to the front of the band and create riffs, instead of just "holding the harmony together"...

Starting out is always hard, I was awful, and used to be a drummer!

I probably still need ever more practice, too, haha!

(By the way, Guns n Roses isn't very hard to play, in my opinion, much less Sweet Child o Mine)
