My father thinks that the work Clapton did in the 60s & 70s with the groups he played was the best Clapton ever had to offer and the solo stuff from the 80s & 90s was a bit to "pop" and not enough raw Clapton. I was exposed to was the 80s & 90s EC solo stuff much more. Which I preferred over the older stuff as a teen. In my mind any album EC played on, except Another Ticket and Money and Cigarettes from the early 80's is worth a spin. Those 2 are by far the worst 2 albums he ever put out.
@dafababa i agree in some points. i think his 80s material is maybe as good as his 60s+70s hit materials. its just more pop music than blues rock, but i like both, i like all kinds of music (rap rock pop etc ) and the 80s were just the decade where pop music was at its best. i agree that his early 80s album money + cigarettes is REALLY lame - i love 3 songs off another ticket though
I love how he lets his guys in the band shine too. It's not all about him. He lets his people have the spotlight too. This was his best lineup I thought. He was at the peak of his powers during the late 80's early 90's, my opinion of course...
yeah, i completely agree. the 2 best albums were journey man and unplugged which were released in that period of time. i think that his band however is the best right now. he has Nathan east still on bass, and has in my opinion got better instrumentalists for the other parts- look at some of the videos from 1995 onwards I'm sure you'll agree, its a very strong band
No, Nathan East hasn't been in the band since 2004. EC's bassist these days is Willie Weeks and on drums he has Abe Laboriel Jr. at the moment. Steve Gadd will be back on the drums for the May-June tours.
I totally agree with you, as I was at one of the many gigs he did at the Royal Albert Hall in 1990 at the start of the "Journeyman" World Tour. And the band members really shined that night!
