The most awesome college marching band in the US! Fight on Trojans! How fitting you should march down the Appian Way playing Conquest! Too bad you couldn't have brought Tommy Trojan and Traveller with you!
Imagine you were there trying to explain this to another tourist. "No this isn't part of the Coliseum tour. Well yeah they are dressed like Trojans, but it's not part of the tour. No, they ARE a band but they play in the Coliseum... not THE Coliseum, but one in LA. Yes, they have one in LA. Because I've been there. Of course not, how could it possibly as old as this one... You know what? Forget it... it IS part of the Coliseum tour."
The only way this event could have been more epic is if the Spirit of Troy had followed up this song with 'Anvil of Crom' from Conan the Barbarian written by another USC grad, Basil Poledouris.
@bhanz666 Guess what? Notre Dame still sucks lolol, and they just lost a five star recruit because of that kid that died.....Not saying it's good that he died, but Notre Dame sucks, and will always suck for now on....Reason: South Bend is a shit hole and no top recruits want to go to school there.
I've always loved Tribute to Troy...reminds of Ben Hur, perhaps the best movie soundtrack ever. I wish some budding musician would compose something with such a martial sound for the Sooners.
@Skep999 Castle Park High School (Trojans) in Chula Vista, CA (San Diego County) plays the traditional USC songs. But they also have a "Parade" song called "Parade of the Charioteers" that they play for street parades (as opposed to competitions). Look for these videos: Castle Park High School (You can hear 'em coming!) ♫♪♫♪♫ (it will be the second song). And: Castle Park High trojan brigade - parade
I know that old (3200years) fable, but most ethnologists give the creation of the Roman Empire to be due to the Etruscans, who had the advantage of being just up the boot, and a few Sabine women away. Romulus and Remus suckling a shewolf are in there somewhere. The founding of Rome (745 BC) took place 450 years AFTER Troy and Aeneas. Me and my history BA from USC.
But marching in front of the Colosseum is a great scene!
I hate USC with a passion! Big 12 fan here! Oklahoma Sooners to be exact, BUT I have to admit that USC has the BEST fight song in the history of NCAA football. This is an AWESOME video. I got GOOSEBUMPS!. I have already watched probably 10 times.
@isaiah213 you know i haven't heard that "your mom" comeback since grade school. USC breeds a very special type of d-bags. thats something to be proud of. really. just look at your alum matt leinart who just got CUT from the cardinals for being a worthless whining D-BAG BITCH!!! lets see how he does in texas.
@oohlalalaohhlala i bet he will do very well in texas but he won't cheat his way out of a football game like vince young did when he cheated USC out the 2005 bcs title so you can go eat a d-bag
Ok I am old and used to play in a Drum and Bugle Corp.. But if I won the lottery I would pay the USC marching band to let me march and play in it. You guys rock.
Spirit of anciente Rome? Rome and Troy are two separate things... the link between is just a legend and very flebile! Plus the "colosseo" has nothing to do with it...
according to some historians...not making this up...
After Troy fell during the Trojan war, a handful of survivors escaped to Italy where they intermingled with the natives, and helped create what would become the city of rome or something along those lines.....
In response to Ratboy808 - The Aenead by Virgil is written on the belief Aeneas of Troy founded Rome. Therefore within, the Trojans are the 'founders' of Rome, making this video all the more austere and poignant, and friggin' awesome, don't you think? Fight On! Win Forever!
No, you are incorrect. Roman folklore states that Rome was founded by Romulus after he killed his brother Remus. Besides, southern Italy had been occupied by the Greedks, the Etruscans in the North, and the Latins in the central. What few surviors there were after Troy was burned were very few and did not have the ability to sail through hostile waters to Italy.
The Aeneid is a Latin epic poem written by Virgil in the late 1st century BC (2919 BC) that tells the legendary story of Aeneas, a Trojan who traveled to Italy, where he became the ancestor of the Romans. Hey Sager122469, go to any university of note, and argue this literary point, if you wish...Fight On!
This is what I know from classes I've taken. The Aeneid is based on the Illiad. It says a Trojan prince sailed from the destroyed Troy and eventually ends up where Rome would be. He and his men settle around there and have children with the native people. Their descendants, Romulus and Remus come around to found Rome. Of course, I've heard that the Aeneid is fictional, and Augustus Caesar had asked Virgil to write it. Nevertheless, it still provides a link between Troy and Rome. (Imaybewrong.)
This video, kinda takes me back about 2000 years.
Notice how even though they are marching away from the camera thiere isn't a problem with their volume.
Oh and by the way the only reason i ever watch a college football game is becuase of the USC band. I didn't go to USC i just love the big sound and there attiude.
nothing better than seeing the USC Trojan marching band coming through the streets of Rome echoing that tremendously powerful fight song....Hail Cesar!!!!!! LOL ......USC ROCKS.........FIGHT ON !!!!!!!! :)
Man I am glad I went to USC! We do rule. What can I say? I know that sounds bad, but the truth is the truth. I should have joined the band though! How much fun do they look like they're having!?!?
haha honestly, they look like a column spearheading an invasion army. If you were an Italian, and you saw some foreigners marching down the street, playing a vicious marching tune, what would you think?
lol USC is so awesome. Honestly, what other marching band would do this? It probably wasn't even planned. Just like, "Hey, guys, you wanna get up and march down the road? Why? Because we're freakin' USC!!!"
haha i wonder if those europeans even know what a marching band is... prolly thought it was a re-enactment lol jk. kick ass place to do that though. the only thing better would be Athens, Greece
What do u expect dumbass? It's their trademark sound that people know them for. It's kind of like if u go see AC/DC in concert u ""expect"" them to play "Back in Black." You don't go see them to play Madonna's songs. I was at Oakland airport 3 weeks ago and seen some dweebs.. a lot of them! and recognized they were members of the Cal Band. What the hell is up with the outdated straw hats & bad taste for band uniforms. Go sell some candy bars & raise money for new uniforms. LOL!
and another thing "DaniPower0" Cal's band sux! I remember when I was in college & was instructing drumlines to help pay for school I was offered to instruct/write for Cal's drumline. I took up the offer but after one month I said, "ENOUGH OF THIS $HiT!.. My ears can't take this anymore!" and it was pretty depressing to be around.. no precision or tradition like SC. The drumline had no definition on how to play a clean drum roll and the band sounded like & looked like they belonged in a circus.
by the way.. I absolutely love this video! I've got this same tune on my cell phone as a ring tone (the actual band playing it!) so I'm never far away from being reminded of SC's TMB! GO SC!
FAMU? Absolutely--and not enough press. I'm a Trojan fan through and through. Love the Trojan band, but I'm here to second you that FAMU is out of this world. Anyone who gets to see this band, anywhere, anytime should do it!
I love USC! At first when I saw the title of the video, "Ah, marching at the Coliseum near my home". And then once I clicked to see the video and read the message before seeing the Trojan band, my mind was totally blown away. Fight on, USC! The best college marching band of all-time representing the USA @ Rome, Italy in the original Coliseum.I'm sure all the Italians, non-Italian European tourists enjoyed & others this sight from America. Fight on!
The USC band may have been in Rome for the same reason it has played in Brazil, Australia, assorted Hollywood film premiers, music and film producers'parties, the Grammy awards, Disneyland, a music festival or two, backed a few bands such as OutKast and Fleetwood Mac. MAYBE THEY WERE INVITED.
bmkdunk: Why are you so impolite? USC, UCLA,UC Berkeley, and Stanford are all excellent schools in one area or another. UCLA's Depts. of Journalism, English, and Biology are amongst the best. I respect that, and I graduated from USC in 1990. Low SAT scores to get in? USC had Rhodes Scholars in 1989 and 1990. In 2006/2007 USC had NINE Fullbright scholars. There is not enough space here to list the intelligent, successful graduates of USC. Or of UCLA.Isn't education meant to enlighten people?
i must say.....from the other side of the country.....this video pumps me up....i could care less of USC....but the message that this sends is what gets me.....i feel like throwing on some pads and hitting someone....
The funny thing is watching the European tourists saying: "WTF!! We don't even have sports much less marching bands supporting them in our universities..."

and another thing "DaniPower0" Cal's band sux!

Another Trojan who wholeheartedly agrees with you. FAMU band is off the freaking HOOK.

Love this! Showing our pals out in Europe the best marching band in college sports!

The funny thing is watching the European tourists saying: "WTF!! We don't even have sports much less marching bands supporting them in our universities..."

This comment has received too many negative votes show
The euros would have really pissed in their pants if it had been Army or navy's band marching, and would have rioted if it had been the Great Texas A & M aggie band
mjgdogs 3 years ago
Yeah - the Euros have NO IDEA what is going on. Well, maybe they've seen a few Hollywood movies (like 50) that Spirit of Troy has appeared in... Fight On!!!
